How To Get Gas Out Of A Car Without A Siphon - Let The Fuel Pump Do The Work!!

Getting some gas out of a car or truck without siphoning. I just hook up a hose to the fuel rail shraeder valve with the core removed, and cycle the key on and off repeatedly. This runs the fuel pump and puts gas in my powerade bottle. Every time the key is turned on in a modern vehicle, the fuel pump automatically runs for about a second, to prime and pressurize the fuel rail and injectors.

To the people here concerned about "old" gasoline damaging your fuel pump, there are several KZbin videos showing engines running fine on gasoline that's sat in tanks for many years -- as long as the tank itself isn't corroded. BUT be sure you don't run your electric fuel pump dry trying to completely empty a fuel tank or you may burn it up. The gasoline cools the cheapo motors in those pumps.

You also can turn on the ignition, pull the relay and use a paper clip to connect it between the power terminal of the fuel pump socket and the fuel pump terminal and pump out as much as u need. A lot less time and not having to turn the key on and off. But if its just a splash of fuel u need i would do it this way too

That's one way, and the way I use too, but do beware. I would put something inside the hose or a vise clamp to the outside of the hose itself, to create a little back pressure. If the pumps are running at free flow speed, they could get hot. The fuel helps cool the pump. Iv seen them burn up

Good idea, though i found an easier solution to constantly turning the key was to remove the relay for the fuel pump and put a piece of wire across as a bridge to run the pump continuously. Cheers

Should have removed fuel pump relay and jump the #30 and ground pin locations with a thin wire with ignition key in the on position not the start. Don't crank engine over.

l. Disconnect return flow from fuel filter. Stick a suitable snug pipe in return feed.. Stick other end in a fuel can. Start car. Done.

Most cars don’t have a separate return fuel line nowadays, the fpr regulates pressure in the fuel rail so a return has not been needed for over 10 years on most cars now

Can you use the tire valve nozzle of a tire foot pump? Remove the tubing from the foot pump. You don't have to remove the push valve. Is it the same size?

Don’t try this on a RAV4. It doesn’t prime the fuel pump. Pump only runs while cranking and after engine start.

Did u know that barely turning the key to start for a split second long enough to run the pump but not to start the vehicle gets more out faster. Just dont let it crank all the way over. And fyi u have to wait a min of 3 slow seconds to get the pump to reset its prim persedure

Place the bottle and the majority of the tube lower than the valve end, then pull it off. I'd expect a siphon would prevent much spillage.

I never did a video, but I always kept a piece of wire for a jumper and length of hose under the hood, and a cap on the valve with one of the core removal tools built in. instant gas, any time.

What if you're trying to get a full tank of diesel out of a gas 2015 Chevy 1500? Just run it thru the pump and cross my fingers? I dont see how it would damage the pump..

Can you think of a safer or easier way to get SMALL amounts of gas in a pinch? This provides a controlled and metered output in small increments without the risk of waste or exposure. This is smarter and safer on so many levels that it smacks of elegance. It only seems dangerous to people that have a fear response to new ideas. Fear and ignorance will make people do stupid things like risking road hazards, wasting time and money, driving around with an external container of gasoline, and wasting a quart of gas to get a quart of gas. But you make a good point. It is a great way to check your fuel pump.

It's also a terrible way to paint a house, skin a deer, or wash your dishes and it's arguably ineffective for self defense. I guess you're right. This is an inefficient process for accomplishing lots of stuff! This is obviously not a method for transferring the entire contents of a gas tank. It's an efficient method for it's intended purpose though, which is acquiring small controlled amounts of gasoline for immediate use or application.

That trick won't work on a car from the 60s because back then the fuel pump was driven by the engine and there was no electric pump in the fuel tank.

You just contradicted yourself. You said the fuel lubricates the pump, which that is what he is pumping. It can't burn out the pump unless you pulled into your driveway and the car died because it just ran outta gas (highly unlikely). Even then there is still a bit of fuel to cool and lubricate.
