1:30 - 1:46 : Most important aspect of WoWs ever said, which most people do not understand. Complaining about battleship not willing to fight or dying too fast mostly by the team cruisers and DD is widespread while everyone playing BB knows getting in torps range or 1vs 2 against CA and CL is a very bad idea which would end one way. Sinergy is important and is something I just realized yesterday night in my Brindisi: I went in support of a DD on the right flank and we took out a lone enemy DD, but by the time I was back on the left flank, where the enemy push was happening, my BB were all dead and the battle lost. I first wonder how my BB managed to die so fast, but then I noticed the shear volume of fire coming from a Dimitri Donskoi which was supporting their Gneisenau and Sovietski Soyuz and realized my BB were simply out-DPM and burned alive. If I were there may by my DPM would have kept their fire less focussed and the battle would have ended in a different way. BTW, BB without eyes are like a boxer without arms and DD should provide vision for as long as they can instead of dying in the first 2 minutes of the game trying to cap going too forward spotted by CV and smoking up, technically blinding themselves ad the whole team.

Zumzifero no, most understand that. However, a battleship that spends the entire game at the extreme limit of its max firing range is useless. And it seems like most battleship players prefer to do that.

Armor angling is a black art though, there’s what should happen and occasionally what actually happens (or often depending on what kind of wizardry the server comes up with)

iChaseGaming Indeed, it takes experience and using the map to do just that. Honestly people shouldn’t look straight ahead all the time. Look at what the opposite flank is doing especially in a BB. Often you can hit the broadside of cruisers and bbs pushing the opposite flank.

@Steven Yang A VERY rough rule of thumb: In a DD just fire HE. In a CA/CL fire HE unless another cruiser is sailing broadside on, then use AP. With BBs use HE only if an enemy BB is more or less bow on, or well angled (like shown in the video, when your AP will bounce). Alternatively use AP but aim at his superstructure. Use HE against DDs. Use AP against everything else. Now, this is extremely simplified but give you a workable way to play. As you get more experienced you will fine-tune this. For example, some DDs can do a lot of damage to other DDs (or even light cruisers) with AP. Or some big-gun BBs may actually overpenetrate a broadsiding light cruiser with AP (the shells pass right through and do minimum damage because its amour is too thin to set off the fuse). But you'll work out these details later.

I struggle in most ship types to know where to go - I full speed in a BB and end up too far forward while all the tanky bbs sit behind islands - How do I know where I am supposed to go without knowing where every other single person is going?

And this is the reason why the Montana is so dangerous in both offense and defense. She can unmask all her turrets while only sacrificing 2 degrees outside of autobounce. Plus, she only has 1mm less armor belt than the Yamato, so the effective armor she gets when unmasking all 4 turrets is still formidable. Hell, you can use her 3 turrets like the Iowa but still have full autobounce.

Ah yes the lemming train one.... kind of useless when enemy has that HE spammers, like smolesnk and colbert. That deplete BB hp faster than a BB. Enemy bb will focused fire you till you are dead anyway because the HE spammers.

A lemming train is only a lemming train if it stops short of a cap (or hides behind all the islands) - otherwise it's an overwhelming force that pushes everything out of its way. Sometimes the most effective counter to a heavy push is a very scary destroyer! If a DD can make an enemy doubt itself, then it can hold off overwhelming numbers almost forever.

Excellent episode. I'd love to see something about maneuvering with cruisers (I think they are the toughest class to play), because sometimes you are angling your armor to an enemy cruiser; or even an enemy battleship who has become fixated on aiming at your citadel, but in some situations you are really just dodging, or trying to dodge incoming enemy fire. There are different considerations depending on what you are trying to do. Plus, some cruisers are made to push in fairly close to the enemy while others are long range HE spammers, and some are ambush predators, which means you want to engage the enemy on your terms with sudden high alpha strikes and then to go undetected rather than making a trade by taking much return fire.

Keep them coming mate, I'm asking all CCs to do these guides to really ram home how to play as we will all benefit from a better player base. Things that would help new and existing players not knowing what to do is (and you'll need volunteers to help with this unless you can get 10+ players) to actually demonstrate precisely what you are trying to get across. With all due respect to people some can't grasp methods unless they can see the "complete picture". And secondly demonstrate the tactical nature of each class ie pushing, smoking up team mates using specific ship classes in their natural ability ie us light cruisers lobbing shells etc. Great work mate. well everybody has the training room available in the client now ... so up to them to load a scenario and try things out ... the only issue is that you have to rely on 3rd party websites to do your research instead of WG providing something usable ... but that's more or less true for every game.

Thanks for doing this series! I'm pretty new to the game (1 TX boat) and my highest BB is the FDG. Some other the other parts of this series I have to say haven't clicked for me, but this one just slots right in to my latest experience. I hated the Bismark. It just never did that push role as well as I'd seen it done for other players - I was keeping good angles, but I was in push mode all the time until it was too late. With the FDG, I heard the doomsayers and started playing scared. If things didn't look great, I'd swing the ship around and kite away... And I won more games and kept ending up high up on the chart of XP earners more often. I see the overall win rate for the FDG is like 48%; I'm at 57%, most of the way to the GK. My other BB is the Rich, and again, I'm using that speed boost to get the hell away as often as not and winning games doing it. But I'll be honest, I don't have the goforit to try and memorize all these armor numbers. All I can make sense of is "angled is better" and "it's better to shoot somebody who's close, it's worse to get shot at by somebody who's close".

I wish you had mentioned armour slope angle too, it’s a mechanic that’s coded into the game that not everyone knows about and increases the armour s effectiveness even when firing point blank, for example, Kremlins main armour belt in the center is 410 mm, however it is sloped at 20 degrees which means accounting for nonarlization of shells over 203mm, which is 6 degrees, even when you are shooting at him point blank broadside you are not shooting him as if his 410 mm main armour belt was angled 90 degrees but instead you are shooting at his 410 mm main armour belt as if he was angled 76 degrees due to the slope of the armor section. Which means the value of effective thickness for the armour layer is thicker than 410 mm. Note that effective armour thickness of this layer is also affected by the angle of incident in regards to the impact angle of the shell vertically as it’s Arcing down towards a target at range

just dont go secondary-build like you would in the old days. with so many HE spam monsters they have released recently, you are well done on both sides before you get into brawl range.. not viable in the HE meta anymore

@@lubossoltes321 thats my point. currently there is no valid reason to take the Bismarck. the Bismarck has always been the symbol of being *the* fun secondary-build ship. then WG decided to flush the meta with HE and more HE. the closer you get with any BB the more you will just ... burn. not only the majority of normal DDs are He spammers but also all the premiums. also...the cruisers. and they all see you coming from a mile away and by the time you break their concealment, you are typically in range of half the enemy team and then theres this endless DakkaDakka of HE shells going down on you. i tried it numerous times and i can assure you, its no fun

At higher tiers a BB loses that range advantage over cruisers so anchoring a defense against them really requires good DD play to provide visibility as well as supporting HE on the opposing BB to scare them out of a push

Hey Chase. I was wondering if you could make an episode where you explain how to get good at destroyers. i can never really get the hang of american gunboat style of dds. i usually go into caps and shoot enemy dds that decide to come in and oppose me and usually i dont handle it well. Most of the time i shoot as fast as i can and try to avoid torpedos but i usually get focused and i dont know how to handle it. So yea i need help on that part :PP thanks for reading :D

I wish I would have watched this a while ago. I have been struggling with my FDG and couldnt figure what I was doing wrong. But now that I see that the gun arcs are much better to the rear I will start playing a bit more defensive. Now if fires stopped being so terrible...

Nathan205 i just got the FDG and I average 90-100k a game. Stick with a high dpm CA. I feel like the enemy got really confused about whether to use HE against me or AP against the CA and usually make really poor choices while being bombarded with secondaries from my ship and salvos from the CA. Every time I go alone I die because everyone loves to HE focus me or torps my big fat ship lol

Depends on your ship, Russian and German BBs have half a chance of angling since the outside plate of the ship is quite thick and only the tip of the nose is 32mm. But everything else you'll eat 12-20k vollies even when angled because of the over match mechanic. However the Yamato does have several weaknesses that can be exploited so tanking a Yamato can be hard to do so the best way is to kill it first which is entirely possible, how easy is it? That entirely depends on yourself and the captain of the Yamato but the way I like to deal with it is to rush it and catch it off guard... in a brawl the Yamato isn't very good so if you can catch it's broad side while it's guns are facing the other way (FYI Yamato guns take an age to turn) or even if you go at it head of from behind an island while it's guns are pointed the other way....its entirely possible to Dev strike it with any other same tier BBs and even some lower tier ones..... And if it's angled.... go for the "cheek" have a look some Yamato videos and you'll know what I'm on about. At range Yamato is dangerous, but it can still be countered.

You can say I pushed ahead too far, but when the opposite team manages to kill a Bismarck in three minutes, after being focused down by 5 ships, you know the rest is still way back at base. So now I stay put as well, and manage to survive sometimes as well.
