I know Bandaid are not the best at marketing, but I really hope Guilmon is just an early access in the game and you can recruit him later, like chapter 4 or so. Feels odd they would use a pre-order exclusive character in their trailers, right?

I mean they did the same thing for ssj4 Vegeta for Xenoverse 1. was only obtainable via preorders and the majority never known about it until after the release. also meaning for the majority there will always be that one character space that will never be unlocked because of it. You'd think they would have learned not to do this by now.

@@noslende Same with the previous Cyber Slueth games back when they first released. They had the black versions of Augumon and Gabumon as pre order only. And I belive the chibi megas in the sequel were also pre order only. Then they released the double version and included everything in them.

@@TheFluBugZ That's wrong. You could get the black versions of Agumon and Gabumon with a physical copy of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (Day One Edition). The DLC for the Extra Missions 1 to 4 were temporary DLCs. And the SD versions of the Royal Knights for Digimon Story: Hacker's Memory were free DLC for several months just by visiting the Bandai Namco Store with your Bandai Namco account to receive a download code.

@@Tommaru 1. There were no physical copies of the day one version, or any physical copies at all, when I went shopping for it. Nor was there any source I could find that stated that there was a 'day one' version at all. 2. I very well could have miss remembered that one. I know for me I had ordered it through Amazon and had a hard time getting the day one dlc code from them as well as many others. I don't remember correctly what was apart of that dlc code.

The way this worked on the US PS Store for Digimon Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory was that the bonus DLC was free for a month after the game's release and then was delisted. Anyone could download the DLC whether you owned the game physically or digitally or even if you didn't own the game at all. No code was required or anything. So my guess is that it doesn't matter where you order the game from or if you buy physical or digital. The bonus content will be free for about a month from release to anyone and then will be expired/delisted after that.

I pre-ordered straight from Bandai Namco's website for the U.S release for ps4. There's not been a lot of information from if you will be getting Guilmon from certain retailers, it seems to vuage which retailers but I really wanted to be safe so that if I couldn't get the pre-order bonus or launch bonus, I could contact support for a code if there wasn't one in box. There's nothing really more that I can do but wait and look up how to get Guilmon over the next week before the game's release

Exactly. I want the physical edition so I preordered that from EB Games here in Australia. But theres no way of knowing if the code is in the box until launch day :( I hope they make the launch period DLC available to all players, not just digital.

I haven't seen much but it looks like plenty of people who pre ordered got a code for Guilmon. I haven't received the game yet since it's still being shipped but anyone who I saw that did an unboxing video for this game, I have seen codes. Granted by the time the video is up, they have already claimed him but at least it's easy to get one if Bandai is giving out these codes in most copies of the game

Hey, I really appreciate the video. Just a heads up, I am in the United States, and I bought a physical copy at my GameStop with no pre order. However, my receipt came with a redemption code with the pre order DLC. I don't know if this is true at other stores, but that is how mine worked. Also, supplies may be short as I am in a well populated area and my GameStop only received two non pre order copies.

I would say, that in Europe you will also receive Guilmon with physical preorders. As you are not able to preorder digitally, Bandai Namco wrote that you still receive Guilmon if you buy the game digitally within the first month. If you really wouldn't get it with physical preorders, it would be a huge hit in the face. Well, I live in Europe and preordered the physical Switch version and will buy it on PS4 digitally... so I'll see it on Friday :-D

Just seems like such a needlessly convulted way to handle the DLC bonus Guilmon. If you pre-order the game, you should be able to just download the Guilmon and HP support items within the first month/set time limit. Similar to AI The Somnium Files: Nirvana Initiative with their launch DLC Wish Bandai would handle that better. Overall still looking forward to Digimon Survive

We dont have masses of new information; digital copies get Guilmon DLC no matter what for the first month, like I said. Certain physical copies have them but its wildly inconsistent. We know that physical in Japan does, physical in EU and Australia doesn't and that as far as US/CA goes, it depends on the retailer. The information as far as I've been told still holds up.

UPDATE: I cant get a video out for a sec, so heres the updated info. DIGITAL BUYERS: You get Guilmon with it no matter what platform you buy it on. Steam, Switch, PS4, XBX. 🙂 It seems to auto download, as well. PHYSICAL BUYERS: In EU/AU, no Guilmon code in the box, no code on reciept. 🙃 Physical copies do not get it. In US, Gamestop orders seem to get it as a pin on receipt. No confirmation from other retailers as of yet. Amazon Purchasers are reporting NOT getting their code. Contact Amazon support immediately to get some resolution. Canada seems to have similar to the US (Gamestop physical are getting them). Amazon orders for the US do NOT have the code. At least not all of them. I guess they decided to pick and choose how many codes would be for Amazon customers because a lot of people like myself never got a code. Bandai will ask you to contact amazon first. Just include the chat you already had as well as the proof of purchase and they will try to help you. I will come back here and update this when bandai reaches back out to me with the code or if it fails.

So in a way it's like a timed exclusive starter. You don't get him as a starter option if you don't buy it in the first month

While I was pre-ordering the game, I had noticed on the pre-order boards where there’s usually up coming games to pre-order, such as Pokémon and the like, not a single one mentioned Digimon Survive. No advertisements, nothing. When I spoke to the lady at the till and asked about any bonuses, even she couldn’t find any answers and actually suggested that I check google to which I then mentioned that was why I asked, since at the time, there was confusing information even back then.

Is there any evidence that Guilmon can't simply be earned through gameplay? I haven't seen the word "exclusive" anywhere surrounding these methods of obtaining the character, so is it possible that the bonus is simply getting him earlier into the game than normal?

This is entirely a possible scenario. The messaging from different regions is so muddy that it could well be an early access character. The way I've interpreted it, its a DLC exclusive akin to BAgumon and BGabumon in Cyber Sleuth.

It feels really weird to me that they would make Guilmon such a large part of their advertising and then completely lock him behind something like this. Physical and Digital copies exist for the game everywhere. Digital goes online on launch day (like most BN games) and will get you access to Guilmon as long as its purchased in the first month. Physical copies so far dont seem to have a code in a box. So whether its a pin on reciept code or maybe different situations for different areas, we wont know

I think guilmon will still be obtainable later in game. This dlc is just early access to guilmon and extra support item.

I just called my Gamestop, and was told Guilmon is part of a launch edition. I think even if you didn't preorder, as long as you buy the launch edition you're set.

@@platipete Well I wouldn't assume the people on the twitter account would check. It's probably baked in the order. The guy I called at my store checked the preorder and told me what came with it, so maybe the twitter people didn't have access to someone's preorder to verify? That's the only explanation I can think of.

I was planning to import it from UK to get it (since france don't have a box edition while german, italians and spanish do, thanks) but guess I'll just buy it on Steam and hope it encourages them to put more japanese games on it

@@platipete No idea I've never tried it myself it seem kinda expensive Also better not trust "european tag" because german Bandai also said they didn't have french version in the german box, so not every country have every language for this game... (german boxes are ugly with their USK logo anyway aha) The only way to be sure to have french AND Guilmon is online store like steam sadly. Bandai kinda suck for this

The fact that Bandai skips preorder bonuses on physical releases (in Europe at least) is infuriating. I mean I preordered Klonoa physically and didn't get anything, but if I had bought it Digitally I would have got a costume? What the heck is that?

All I want to know is if I can get Guilmon in the US if I buy the game on Steam. I hope so. Either way, I still hate preorder DLC in general. Just freaking make it part of the game from the start or at least make it buyable DLC if they want to take more of our money. Forcing people to preorder or else always feels very scummy 100% of the time.

Perhaps my wording wasnt great in the video. If you buy the game digitally (PSN, eShop, Steam, Xbox) within the first month, you get access to Guilmon. So you're fine Jackman. Preorder DLC is...a thing. I think it has its uses, to incentivise early sales. But I feel it should be limited to cosmetics or things like that if its ingame stuff. Having characters or missions locked behind preorder DLC feels on the scummier side of things IMO.

@@platipete hi. Haven't purchase one but in our local group, those who already bought (asian/japan release) got a dlc code (guilmon and hp support code). And he said it's for early buyers (probably day one stocks). I don't know if this is the same for world wide release. The dlc code isn't explicitly stated in the description of our local store (only pre order bonus like tcg cards). Will let you know if I got one too.
