I've been a React dev for three years and am currently doing a respec into IOS. Would it be realistic to jump into a FANG company with no commercial experience (apart from personal apps in production) as an IOS dev or would it be best to do a year someplace else then jump in?
@JoshandKatie4 жыл бұрын
@@MattKander Honestly, it would probably be easier to jump into an IOS role at another company first. You could also try getting hired by FANG as a React dev and swapping into an IOS role after putting a year or so into a React team. That's probably what I would actually try to do! Good luck.

I have been doing iOS native development since 7 years in ObjC & Swift(6 years almost). Also tried various other technologies like SpringBoot (intermediate), cocos2d-x gaming (7 months). I also likes to stackoverflow in my free time with 12k+ points. Currently in India and want to migrate to Bay Area or wherever I can find big firms. What are the points I need to follow to get myself a job in these areas?

For those short on time: 1. Don’t be insecure 2. It’s just a numbers game 3. Your resume needs to be polished, (to get more experience entry level use angelist) 4. Nail your interview (know about company, prepare technical, have list of experiences for questions ) 5. Follow up

Thank you both Josh and Katie. When I first looked at Josh's a day in Twitter video , I thought he must have been from an Ivy league or from any top tier schools. Thanks for breaking that preconceived idea I had. Josh, I am graduating next year and I go to Siena College, a liberal arts College in New York. Josh, my request to you would be to make a video on how to prepare for technical interviews in great detail like (DS, Alogrithms).

Hi Josh and Katie, thanks for sharing your real experience. I am sure this helps a lot of people. In terms of the big companies in the Bay Area and Santa Clara area such as Google, is there any age limit that these companies follow when hiring? Do they hire people in their 30's?

Can you give me some advice on how to do projects that stands out for my resume? I'm from Serbia, (Josh probably heard of that country because i saw that he was in Croatia which is near my country and has identical language as my country) anyway, my point is that tech companies are very different here so i would like to prepare my resume as best as i could, so what will you suggest? I am also looking for doing my masters in USA but it will mostly depend on price whether or not i am going to do master in California or not. What do you think about doing master studies in USA as international student? Can you give me some advices what is the best thing to do to get a job in California tech company as international student, i'm sure that there are people like me here who would like to hear advices from you two? Keep up the great content! :)

What do you say about people who've gone the bootcamps I went through it and am on the lookout for jobs and it's so stressful but am currently working a warehouse job at amazon and they say I can go through amazon and get an interview with them but I'm not putting all my eggs into one basket like I legit got hit with imposter syndrome and with bootcamps especially but I keep telling myself as long as you know what you are doing and keep at it eventually it will work out
@JoshandKatie4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, man. Recruiting is stressful. I wouldn't take any interview personally and you should diversify outside of Amazon-- odds of getting in to the 1st company you apply for are low because so much comes down to luck and timing. Good luck in your search! You've got this.

Hi Josh and Katie, what type of questions for coding did you encounter in interviews ? Thanks.
@JoshandKatie4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the LeetCode questions are very accurate. You should check out the LeetCode website if you haven’t already! It was mostly some data structures questions that revolve around processing array data into a hash map, then using the hash map to calculate different outcomes. Just do a bunch of LeetCode questions and you’ll know exactly what they are!

Hey great vidio. Well I am from India. They don't hire people outside the country because of visa. If I get a job here in India in same company then its chances to trafered but not directly. I have applied though through LinkedIn and direct career page😒😒 Also I am in IT sales not coding. Do I have chance?
@JoshandKatie4 жыл бұрын
That is tough! I don't know much about the visa process, but my advice is to keep trying-- so much in life is out of your control, but if you keep applying, interviewing, putting yourself out there etc-- you can create more opportunities to get lucky.
