This is the most informative video I have seen to date on how to get hired at an Interior Design firm. At the age of 48, I made the decision to go back to school for Interior Design which has been a lifelong passion of mine. It is so lovely to hear that we don't have to be an "expert" in the field in order to get hired with your firm. Thank you, so much for this great video! Hahaha! "Don't be a dick!" That is the best interview pointer ever!

Okay I would disagree with the looking different comment especially for black women. In America we are told that we have to have a certain type of hair to get a job. With that being said we carry that out,and you may see us with different hair after we get the role! So I would just be careful with that comment because we do think about that alot and tbh alot of white executives make comments after we are hired and its not cool….

How nice of you to remind people that the digital age in all its wonder does not ever replace the human connection and the levity of the written word by putting pen to paper. 😊 Quick story: I interviewed for an executive admin position in advertising early on in my career. I knew what I lacked in work experience, I made up for in professionalism and office decorum, so knowing they would ask me " how I was the right person for the job", I was going to be prepared. When that moment in the interview arrived I quietly took a can of coke out of my bag and said "This is what some secretaries do" and slid the can across the table to the interviewer. She looked surprised. Then taking a beat "This is what an executive admin does" I then pulled out a can of coke, glass, and a well-pressed white napkin out of the same bag and proceeded to open the can, pour the coke into the glass, wrap the glass sommelier-style, get up from my side of the table and put the glass in front of the interviewer. I left the interview with the job where I worked for five years!

Great advice. That's encouraging to hear that you would hire someone with little experience because in interor design it can be difficult to get your foot in the door. AND this is random but your make up looks so good!!

I have fallen in love with THELIFESTYLEDCO. I would love to see more content; however, I am sure you don't post more on KZbin due to the nature of your business. Right now, my finances are not as freed up as I would like, but I will order more things from your shop once it is. I ordered the Blythe Rancher Hat in Camel and the Werner Taper Holder, and I have received many compliments on this hat! I just purchased a split-level home, and I am having a little bit of a challenge styling the living space/great room due to the room's shape, so I would love to see content on how to style different shaped rooms. One of your couches is on my shortlist.

Very helpful for this new mom who’s been taking a break away from the professional world to have babies. While I’m pregnant with #2 I’m wanting to get back into the design world and know things have changed a lot in the several years. I won’t be back in the game for another year (hopefully sooner) however, these are things I think about while I’m designing for our new home wishing I had coworkers to bounce ideas off of who’s wearing office clothes 😂 instead of yoga pants. (You know, people wearing a bit more than something that says “I mom so hard I have no idea what I look like👍”.) I sincerely thank you for the brain food and motivation. PS I’m from the south and not a custom to the light here in the high desert of Utah. I’m having trouble choosing the perfect colors. Could you recommend anyone or thing to help with quick tips? Normally I’m the golden child of perfect color choice so it could be hormones or just the reflection off the flooring I have to live with for a while.

I am a follower of your design and genuinely appreciate art and interior design, most of your tips are great but I have a notion of pretentiousness in your criteria or perhaps attitude. True art and creativity comes a lot of time from a place of spontaneity and freedom of expression, what you look for seems to be someone who adores your brand and you and not necessarily bring in something different or something new. Just because someone came on the first day of interview with full on make up and certain style, doesn’t not make him less genuine if some times person has more natural or relaxed look or style. Ofc if the outmost importance to you is that someone is extension of your brand and looks like a clone that’s another story, my point is you could miss on great potential talents just because their dressing style or social media doesn’t align with your values. I strive for employers that are looking for variety, different people with different ideas and backgrounds. We can all still be very experienced, technical, and professional but completely opposite on a private level and in our life styles. And actually when I connect with my colleagues and see other side of then on social media (the ones that don’t hide) I appreciate their honesty, the fact they have fun or quirky side to them and a lot of times it is a complete surprise - the ones that come across most serious and professional are often very laidback and sweet on a private level. In fact, it is very easy to be deceitful on social media and create fake version of yourself to impress or to manipulate someone’s perception of us. However, this is just my own feedback and I do appreciate the video. Thank you

Hi there! All Kristen was trying to explain was that when you come in for an interview, show your authentic self, which could either be with a full face of makeup, or a more natural style so that your employer is getting to know the true you. Like she said in the video, if you don't wear makeup, don't wear it because they want to know who you are and get an understanding of the applicant's most comfortable state and aesthetic. But thank you so much for your feedback!

@THELIFESTYLEDCO
@THELIFESTYLEDCO 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Angela! Thank you so much for watching! Kristen believes that selecting a school should be a very personal choice because it's not all about the curriculum, it's about what's best for you! She also recommends becoming an expert in what is the most valuable in the design emphasis you want to work in. So whether that's becoming an expert in SketchUp, Revit, etc. 🖤

As a business owner all the stuff you said about the résumé especially the grammar spacing spelling etc. I can’t tell you how many times somebody might’ve been qualified but I tossed that sh*t right into the garbage because the first thing I saw was a typo. Also, yep- the social media clean up. The things I see- just wow.

Does being private or lack of posting on social media impact how you view candidates since you are given little of the person online to compare to how they present themselves on paper? I'm asking because I do not have much of a social media presence aside from posting the occasional picture of myself. Thank you for the great tips!
