Yep, Amazon has them. Walmart and Walgreens has had them as well near the mobility aides. I'll put an Amazon link in the description of the video as well.

Thank you for the info on the car cane! Can you do a video on getting into a pickup truck with running boards as a step? My husband's truck is too tall, and has the long running board. I can't quite figure out how to arrange my feet to gracefully get into the truck. Thank you!
@yourPTguy Жыл бұрын
That's a great suggestion. Maybe I can try and borrow our friends truck for that! I used to have a Toyota Tacoma when I was doing home care. I had to sell it and go with a more economic car but I really miss Onyx! (my previous truck's name).

Hi John! Oops, yes the "clicker" was just where the seat belt buckle clips in. 😊

There are seat toppers for cars that face you as your enter the car, and twists forward. They are well worth the money!

@jefflemich86877 ай бұрын
This was an excellent video. I have a Prius like yours and use the same techniques. One additional thing is that I keep a cushion on my rollator and put it on the car seat when I get in. It raises the seat a few inches and makes getting out easier. I also rock back and forth to get some momentum like you showed in your getting up from a chair without arms video.

Any hints for getting in and out of the back seat? I take a taxi almost everywhere I go and I sure could use some help maneuvering in and out of the small area allowed to the passenger.🚕
@yourPTguy Жыл бұрын
That can definitely be tricky depending on the size of the taxi - especially when I was in India and with the fun rickshaws! The most important thing will be to try to get close to the edge of the seat and if you can use a Car Cane like the one in the video, that may help give you that leverage in addition to using the seat in front of you to pull up from while simultaneously pushing from the car cane. It sounds like another great video idea! If you have any additional video ideas, let me know. Stay safe and independent 😊

I would love to see one of this kind of video for getting into a van. It's a little different because of the height. I have a tubular plastic slide that sits on the seat and helps to get my rear all the way into the seat, as my legs are too weak to push myself back otherwise. The plastic bag is a GREAT idea! Thanks!

Nice vid. I can sit and drive OK. But the driver's side presents different problems. I am a large person (250 lbs). I've been doing the sit then turn for years. BUT I drive a medium size vehicle AND my shoe size is 19-4E. My space between seat and door frame is about a size 15 shoe.I can't raise my leg without hitting the steering wheel and levers. I'll survive but I can't be the only one in 330M ppl with this prob, just sayin'.

I too still drive but I'm only 5'2". Still have difficulty with sitting in the seat. Need to swing my right leg to enter the car. I then pull myself in. Not easy at all. Wish cars still had the swing around drivers seat they made back in the late 60s.
@tracyadelizzi683111 ай бұрын
I have a related issue. I'm also large but carry my weight below the waist. When I sit, there is no room to slide back. I'm already against the seat belt clicker. There is no room to swing my legs in. I get in the way he says not to with putting one leg in first. I can get out with the sitting method but not in. Unfortunately, once again for us larger people, one size doesn't fit all.

@@tracyadelizzi6831 Been there, done that. I was 365# in 2016. I now use the seat belt extension just for convenience. I lost 110#, thanks to the near death, heart failure, then repaired 'diet'.

How do I get the walker in so when I get to the store I can get out
@Questor-ky2fv8 ай бұрын
Won't help me get in and out of my brother's vehicles. They have several trucks and Jeeps. I am a short, heavy person with 2 rotten knees. I can no longer get in and out of their vehicles. My stepmom (a snowbird) will be back up here by the end of this month. I'm hoping that she can take me to my occasional doctor appointments in her normal car until she migrates south for the winter. I do like the idea of the plastic bag. I would also suggest moving the one car seat all the way back until you get seated on it. This will provide more leg room to get your legs and feet in. These tips should be a big help. If I went out a lot, I would look into getting a car cane. I use a Nova mini mack rolling walker to get around on foot. It's been a big help to me! ❤😊 Anyway, thanks for the tips!

Love your videos….very informative. In this video, you used the right leg as the injured leg; my problem is the left leg. I have trouble getting out of the passengers side as there’s never enough room to bend my knee. ( I injured my right knee and it doesn’t fully bend back). So when I try to get out, I invariably hurt myself and my knee. Can you do a video or explain how to get out after left knee surgery. Thank you ❤ from 🇨🇦

This was awesome. I’ve had the car handle for long time for the latch! In my bag goes with me. Legs are swollen short and wrapped due to Lipedema & lymphedema making it much harder to wiggle back to ‘clicker or console’. A conundrum but you give me more hope to get into a car when emergent issues happen! Thank you love your Vids keep them coming ✅💥😎

This method does not work on bucket seats with those HUGE sides sticking out and going RIGHT IN TO YOUR THIGH ....... u can not sit on the edge at all on those seats it will screw your nerves up complete and make u in to a handicapped person who cant walk , stand or lay down after a while of doing that :(
