When I was younger I read a lot of books, but at some point I started to read maximum one book per year. In last year I started to read Way of Kings, and now I read everyday :P Sanderson did something magic to me, and I will be always grateful to him for that.

Advice I'd like to add: • Read what you want to read. Don't force yourself to finish your current book if you're not in the mood for it. • Track your reading. With Goodreads for example. It's a really good reflection on your reading habit • Set a tbr or any other goals like a a specific number of pages.

Reading 2 books at the same time has really been amazing for me. That way, if you're not in the mood for one then you can just pick up another! I also start a new book when I have a whole evening free and make myself read the first 30-50 pages in one sitting so that I am invested in the story and am more likely to want to carry on reading it.

When I got back into reading late last year, I just downloaded a Kindle book and started reading lol. The digital aspect of books really helps me stay motivated to read, as I finish one book, and can just go onto Amazon and find another to read. I know a lot of people still like physical books but having books at your fingertips really works for me. Another thing that keeps me motivated to read, is I joined goodreads last month. I don't use it for anything more than updating my progress in books, leaving myself little notes in general updates and just tracking what I want to read and what I have read, and seeing myself accomplish reading as my shelves fill up and my reading progress bar updates really helps me not only finish books, but continue reading.

Those are great suggestions!!! Finding out if you’re a digital reader or physical is a great point. That definitely worked really well for my husband when he was getting into reading, especially with how easy it is to download things from the library :)

I used to read a lot in elementary school and middle school, but for some reason I stopped around high school time. I kept rereading the same books over and over again because I was afraid of reading something that I wouldn't like, and that turned into just not reading as much. Now that I'm out of college and have to deal with things like a job and continuing education, I've found that I really miss that feeling of being completely immersed in a novel or series. So I've been reading some new science fiction stuff that I absolutely love, and I can't imagine why I ever decided to not try new books out since I love reading so much :)

I was able to enjoy reading again in 2019 when I discovered booktube and found new motivation. So hopefully 2020 can now be the year of finally organizing my life lol.

I felt the same way about audio books as you. I thought that I would never be able to get into it. As I have moved up in my career I find myself with a lot less time to take to sit down and read. Audio books has been such a savior for me. I also find myself reading more than just my preferred genre, fantasy. Lately I have been reading a lot of non-fiction books and some of the books are dry. The level of engagement the narrator creates gets me through some books that I normally wouldn’t have even picked up.

So, I picked up Scythe by Neal Shusterman after I saw your review. It’s the first book in quite a while that I actually finished. It was amazing. I liked that it wasn’t too long and the story kept moving. Even better, my son and daughter-in-law are now reading It. So, I think a short, engaging story that you can share with others may encourage one to read.

I have ADD and reading is pretty hard for me. I have a MUCH easier time with audiobooks. I use a cross-stitch app (like coloring) on my phone while my PC is playing an audiobook and the combination of activities has been a success :) I started with books I loved years ago: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Went on to Terry Pratchett, then Joe Abercrombie and Patrick Rothfuss. And I am hooked.

#1 worked for me. My favorite book of all time is LES MISERABLES by Victor Hugo, yet I likely would never have picked up something that daunting or challenging if I didn't already know the story from its many adaptations. It's also how I read OLIVER TWIST.

Great tips. I think I'm going to do block schedule. 👍 I definitely started new genres. I was only mysteries and nonfiction most of my adulthood. I realized I was in a rut! I started YA fantasy > middle grade > fiction > graphic novels > finally starting adult high fantasy. Never in a million years did I think I would like graphic novels and high epic fantasy. An interesting surprise. Now I'm reading all of them. I still love murder mysteries though. 😁 Now my only problem is trying to find time to read them all LOL 😂

Here's a nice tip - get insomnia at 4 in the morning and read till the sun comes out! You'll be tired in the morning, but I guarantee you'll read a lot haha! I agree with your points! Like you've already said, reading is solitary, so find a community! Part of the fun of reading Stormlight archive was sharing my experience with some cool strangers! Lastly, what worked for me was putting a goal in goodreads and actually following it! I made a goal for the first time, I wanted to have read 20 books by December! In July, I was already at 15 books, which had me excited! I'm glad to report that I've read 34 books in 2019!!!

Audio books are great! I got so much done around the house while looking after my small child. I wasn't sure at first, but then I thought, I read stories to my little one. I was able to read 3 books in one month because of the audio option, whereas one book a month without using audio books.

If someone lives in an area where they don't have a library, or there isn't enough interest or funding to boost readership, there are other free alternatives such as Openlibrary.com which let's you read a book from your device's browser. And if you can spend a little bit of money, check out sites like bookbub.com, they list a monthly selection of free and cheap books in various genres. Most of the books and authors tend to be unknowns, but I've found quite a few gems thanks to this site!

In 2019, I read 21 books and 2 were rereads. I also listened to several audiobooks on KZbin, but I didn’t count them in my Goodreads reading challenge because, and this is just me, I don’t feel like I read the books I listened to. I listened to Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom and King of Scars on audiobook and I wish I hadn’t. It wasn’t that it ruined the books for me, don’t get me wrong I LOVED the books, it was just that I didn’t feel accomplished. I plan on buying the books sometime this year and reading them myself. I also listened to the audiobooks of The Ascendance Trilogy which I have already read multiple times before so it was more of a reread, for enjoyment since it is my all time favorite series, that I did when I was in a reading slump since I don’t own the series myself. I’m currently listening to books 1-3 of Harry Potter which I read like four years ago and I hardly remember, so that I can read books 4-7 sometime this year. I know, I’m very behind 😂 *This is just how I am with audiobooks and I am in no way not judging anyone who does count them.*

As a kid I read but it was usually non fiction. A few years ago I wanted to get into reading so I started with Harry Potter, because it was a movie that I had watched so I figured it would help when it came to reading the book. And it worked really well. Only issue was I didn’t really like, but not hate, J.K.s writing style and I really didn’t like Harry lol After that I found Discworld. Which is now my favorite vacation spot lol. Ive been reading Sanderson’s stormlight archives lately and they are awesome but I don’t wanna ever really actually visit it. Not only can I reread Pratchett’s work but what I wouldn’t give to spend time in Discworld lol. Guess that would be the second thing do help with reading I did, find a author that has a writing style you like.
