Thank you for a good video! I play trombone and have a problem with the listening since the acoustic sound is so loud its hard to set the fx right in rehearsal as well as live, any recommendations regarding that issue?

Yep this is the exact problem that I have had to solve and I have a few helpful solutions. I actually made a video on this subject I recommend called "How I use effects pedals in an acoustic live setting" or something like that. Basically, the biggest thing you can do to help yourself in an acoustic setting is to choose effects that compliment your acoustic sound rather than change it. For example, overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals are cool, but they're not going to overcome your/the band's acoustic sound. If you manage to hear it, your amp will be loud to the point that you risk feedback. Other modulation effects usually don't work for the same reason such as phaser, flanger, wah, etc. There are exceptions if you pair them with a delay or reverb, but on the whole, they're not going to be too effective. You want to use effects that will compliment your sound such as delays, loopers, and pitch shifters. The main sound should be you and your tone, and then the delays, loops, and pitch shifting should be more of a background compliment rather than the main thing. Another helpful thing is the placement of your amp/speaker; I find that putting it on a chair or table helps so dramatically because then it's not emitting sound to your feet but rather your ears, and the band will be able to hear it better as well.

I'm new to pedals. I play tenor sax... for personal entertainment. Do you think the Avalanche run V2 is a good start?

Yes I do, I actually made a video entitled "The only 2 effects pedals you will need" and Avalanche run is one of them haha.

Surely you didn’t only used a SM-57 in this video? The reason I ask is because I think it sounds fuller than what that microphone usually sounds like. (But even if I’ve been a sound engineer for 30 years, I’ve never used it on sax, so… ☺️) Oh, by the way: If you should recommend one pedal, what (kind of) pedal would it be? Missed that in the video.

All the effects are tracked through the SM-57 for pretty much everything I do. In this video, the talking and dry sound is picked up by the Zoom H2n but all the pedal songs on this channel go through the SM-57 including the transition song on this video. I agree it's not the best, but I find the best way to capture sound is not entirely on the mic, but with good warm up and a good reed (which is not always easy to find, haha).

Also, forgot to mention! I plan to make a video on what pedals I recommend for saxophone; be on the lookout!

Recommend a preamp first. a cheap art or 4channel mackie mixer.both are cheap$$.
