So Howard announced yesterday they are now TEST OPTIONAL! *This is what got us in for HU23 , some of these requirements may have changed since then*

Ncrypt Solutions basically it means to apply to Howard this year, the student gets to decide if they submit their test scores or not. I saw a post from Howard that said they will not penalize applications who do or don’t submit so it’s all up to the student.

I have a 3.1 unweighted and a 4.2 weighted, I’m in a few clubs and have a few leadership positions and a lot of community service extracurriculars, should I apply early or wait and apply regular decision?

Hi! So i'm not an admissions counselor and don't have any information as far as what Howard is looking for in a candidate for this year (or whichever year you would be applying). I was advised to apply regular, however Delanie applied early. I would email the head of admissions and ask if she can give you some guidance. Hope this can help but again I don't have all the answers. Good luck!

Aniyah Jackson early action is when you apply before the regular deadline. You would find out if you were accepted in November instead of in March!

I'm glad this is helpful! Yes, when you fill out the common app there should be a section / area that gives you an option to submit the letters. I also think your guidance counselor can submit if you're having issues.

I have a question. I’ve done really bad my freshman year and I’m trying to turn it all around right now (I’m a sophomore btw). I take IB and Honors classes as well. Do you think I’d be able to get in if I aced my junior and seniors year.

I am applying as a transfer student and im working on my personal statement now. There are two sections for personal statements. One is mandatory and must be short. The other is optional is more of an essay. I'm transferring from UCONN which has a terrible record of being racist and I can't take it anymore. My personal short statement talks about some of the microaggressions/racism I faced and the racist incidences that happened on campus as to why I want to leave UConn. I then go on to explain why I know Howard is the perfect fit for me because black excellence, inspiration, and such. Do you think this is a good way to go about writing a small personal statement? The longer statement will include why I will be the perfect Howard student with evidence for extracurricular activities on and off-campus and my academics. What do you think?

I think that would be a very good point to make as a transfer student! The best advice I can give for applying is to go confidently in the direction you feel is appropriate and in a manner that describes yourself & your experience. I'll never know exactly what they're looking for!

If you go on Howards website and go into the section titled "ACADEMICS", it breaks down each school and you should be able to find it in there. :)

Do you think it’s too late to join extracurriculars going into junior year? My freshman year I was focused on the work and then my sophomore year I started a job that I worked all year round. I really wish I had seen this video going into my sophomore year but I wasn’t sure where I wanted to end up just yet. I just know some colleges look down on squeezing extracurriculars into your junior year of high school.

No I don't think it's too late!! Especially since you have a job (which can go on your resume), adding extracurriculars can only make your application better. Truthfully, every year the application process is a little different so you really can never know exactly what / who they're looking for.

When I applied in 2018, there was no test-optional section. I submitted both my SAT & ACT.

We were referring to the different schools within Howard. So SOC is short for , School of Communication & SOB is short for School of Business. You’ll rarely hear people actually say the full name! Same with COAS = College Of Arts & Sciences and so on with the other schools.

Hi! When I applied, the supplement essay was apart of the application. If there was no section to submit one, I’m assuming they may not have made it a requirement. I would check in with other potential hu25 people if you can!

In regards to grades are u talking about junior year grades?

Yes basically. Since you apply before your Senior year grades are accounted for, it's technically the cumulative GPA from Freshman, Sophomore & Junior year. However, you do have to send a final transcript with the rest of your grades from Senior year once you graduate.
