My main advice: Vary your experiences. One type of patient contact isn't always gonna cut it. Take your time if you need it. An extra year after college to gain hours/confidence will be nothing but beneficial for you - for applications purposes, but also to just become a better provider.

i love being a CNA (also called PCT in some hospitals or nursing homes) and it’s actually what led me to interests in PAs. i highly recommend it if u have a high work ethic and are a people person. it can be stressful but out of 5 jobs i’ve had (from food industry to retail to tourism etc) CNA is my favorite.

I got my BS in Biology which covers every pre-req there is for either PA or MD school. As far as my GPA, it really stinks. My patient care hours is my work experience which is over 15yrs in the emergency department and ambulance. I'm working on getting my GRE done next month so I'm hoping I can get all this done by next month.

Most PA schools just require a GPA to have a 3.0 or above... if you’re at 3.5 or above, I consider that a great GPA!!!

I am currently an X-ray Tech at a local Urgent Care. I graduated, but only with an Associates Degree in 2019. I took Anatomy Lab/Lecture, Physiology Lab/Lecture, Physics, Statistics and Medical Terminology. I know I'll have to get a BA, BUT what I'm worried about is Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biochemistry........ugh, and being 41 years old with 2 young kids and a current stable job (just not the best money).

I'm a CT tech on the PA route too! I'm getting a bachelors in radiologic science completely online first and then once I have that I plan on finishing the other prereqs. My advice is to do everything you can online at community college to save money, and in my experience the online classes are easier as well. Use rate my professor to see which teachers give extra credit and such so u can keep your GPA up!

Just a heads up!! Pharmacy Technician DOES NOT COUNT as direct patient care. I was a pharmacy tech for three years and even did all the health screenings and assisted with vaccinations but the PA programs in my state will NOT accept those as patient care hours

I know this video is a bit old but I've been Pharm Tech for 12 years. You DO have to have a certificate (in some cases State and National level) and depending on the state you have to have 1000 work hours before you can work in the pharmacy. BUT you can be a pharmacy CASHIER, you will not do anything but sell RXs not filling or other duties.

I'm about to graduate Surgical Tech school. My goal is to get into PA school after I get my bachelors. Most of the PAs I talk to at the hospital tell me that the degree doesn't matter, only if you have the pre-reqs, the GPA, and nail the interview. I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Are Dental Assistants under the category for patient care hours? We take medical histories, assisting chair-side in surgery & taking radiograph images and help the doctor with tons! Lol ....But I’ve yet to find solid resources about EFDA or RDA, can use their patient care hours towards PA school. We are still under medical so just curious about that. Btw love the channel! @Kalin Williams You can become certified or get a two year degree in an entryway medical field job. I’m getting a certificate in Phelmbotomy! It’s a 4 month long program then we take a national exam to be certified. You can also look up other entry level medical jobs like CNA or MA.
