Currently I’m taking the DIY approach. So far I’ve only mounted a soft mount fox and a shoulder grey fox. Every time I mount something, I figure out how better to mount animals and what I should be doing differently! I’d definitely love to either attend a school or intern under a taxidermist one day :)

You’re amazing I learn from KZbin and my friend who is retired taxidermy, he lives like 10 minutes away from me. I learn from him to. 😅 and watching your videos and other guys how they do their stuff he has really helped me big time!

I've always been fascinated with taxidermy. Would love to make it a great side/self business or even main job if lucky enough. I am now located in Casper, Wy and not to far away from the Pro Mount Taxidermy School in Billings. Definitely leaning towards the trade school style, mainly for the learning curve and possibility of saving years of learning. I imagine its the best way to grow a strong foundation of skill. Great Video! Sub!

I am a big fan of taxidermy and have a large collection. As hard as it is to just fillet a fish between the skin and meat, i can only imagine how hard it is to mount one! I have checked out some of your other vids and am impressed with your deer mounts!

Thank you!! Skin mount fish taxidermy is harder than deer IMO! I’ve only done a few fish. Luckily, a lot of fish taxidermy is just painting a blank replica of the fish

@@ashleyeve yeah, it is getting harder to find a taxidermist around here who still does skin mounts well. Two of the taxidermists i've done business with have retired, Three more kinda let me down with not so great work, and now i'm driving 110 miles but at least this guy does good work. Keep up the informative videos!

Those antlers are perfectly positioned behind your head! Not sure if that was intentional or not but it’s pretty funny. I enjoyed your video.

Well done video! I have some more video ideas for you. Maybe put one together on what to look for when choosing a taxidermist to use. (Don’t price shop, experience, accomplishments, reputation, materials/tans they use….). Also a video on promoting yourself and business. (How did you get interested in it, have you competed, animals you’ve done, ones you like or dislike working on….) Just ideas, keep up the good work!

What is a good kit to buy for a diy mount. I'm 44 years old and always wanted to learn taxadermy. I've been around a taxadermy while mounting one of my deer watched allot of videos ect... I'm a do it yourself kind of guy. Just want to know a good "starter" kit. Any suggestions? Thanks from Arkansas

I wanna get into taxiadermy because.. animals=cute and art=fun :D I have some questions though. 1. Is naming them, accesorizing them disrespectful? I'm wanting to work with soft mounts, floppy or poseable. To me, just calling it 'fox' or 'possum' sounds weird so I'd give it a name; i'll give them lore and some sort of background to make things more fun! Maybe even accessorize with bows, collars and bracelets. I dont want to be disrespectful, i just want to add some life into my work. 2. Where can I find videos helping with ALL kinds of mounts??? ive only found tiny videos on stiching/sewing, how to shape up the face but never an actual walkthrough and its kinda stressing me out as i desperately want to make something; i have all materials needed already but no idea on how to start.

Hey I have a question. My dog catches a lot of rabbits (they're always still in good condition, he doesn't rag doll them or anything) and I would like to learn how to process the fur so I can use it for different things like wall hangings and clothing. I don't think this is considered taxidermy but what is it called? Edit- by good condition I mean they're dead but still all intact with usually only a few punctures in the middle so the fur is still in really good shape
@monosmech
@monosmech Жыл бұрын
You're looking to tan rabbit hides! The process is similar to taxidermy since you have to tan the hide so bugs don't eat it or the fur doesn't slip out. There's a bunch of techniques and I reccomend searching for it on google or youtube, there's a lot of detailed videos on there! Good luck!!

What would you recommend for base supplies for a Whitetail mount? As far as clay, tools, stand, etc. it seems like a lot of people say you don’t need to buy a huge starter kit but I’m having a hard time finding the minimum supplies needed to complete a mount. Any help is appreciated. Your video was very informative thanks for taking the time to share

It's really not easy getting into taxidermy... I'm from germany, been collecting taxidermy since I was a kid. I went to art school and have a tough stomache. I would love to work as a taxidermist, I've done a fair share of little diy projects, whenever I got my hands on a freshly dead animal. My best friend keeps chickens, Few weeks ago one of her freshly hatched chicks suddenly died after just a few days. Sad for the chick, lucky for me. That was my last project. Sadly there is just one school left in germany that does real job training for taxidermists (Ausbildung) and it's far from where I live. It's really not an easy thing to get into. And then there's the fact that most people once I tell them about this hobby immediately see Jeffrey Dahmer in their head (for example). Probably doesn't help that I'm dressed like a goth drac queen most of the time. But that put aside, people just really seem to have a problem to view this as a normal job or hobby these days. Which makes it even harder to get into because it's hard to find people that can give you any tips or advice on the topic, all I have are Internet tips. There are not even proper taxidermists to learn from in my area xD I swear I'm cursed. But it's videos like this that keep my hopes up of getting into this career/profession one day ^^
