How to get into the Coast Guard Academy & become a Helicopter Pilot

Lots of discussion about service commitment. In a nut shell, every Cadet signs a document acknowledging an obligation to serve 5 years as "payback" for their degree and commissioning at the Academy. This obligation kicks in at the end of the second academic year (i.e, completion of 3/c year). They sign this obligation again at the beginning of their 2/c summer activities. Including that if they do not complete the 4 year program at the academy, graduate and get commissioned, that they are obligated to serve 2 years as an enlisted member in the Active Duty Coast Guard. This is the same at all of the Military Academies.

Try and soak in all the things at boot camp. Also it’s not the real coast guard.

@@imyou6051 okay I will for sure. I was just hoping to know more about the officer side to see if I wanted to leave the enlisted side at some point. However I feel like I will belong better in enlistment ranks

90% of the people just coming out of college wont meet the desired qualifications for DCO... a simple google search shows that for intelligence DCO they want previous federal employees, or IS rating service members... OCS or enlist are the best routes
