Hi, I'm studying Bachelor of Medical Science. I'm an undergraduate student. In 2025, I want to apply for a Doctor of Medicine at UNSW. What are some strategies and entry requirements to have?
@hellothysworld Жыл бұрын
sorry just saw your question. can you reword it, im not sure what you're asking. i've covered as much as i can regarding entry to medicine for year 12 students. as an undergraduate student you will be considered as 'non-standard entry' so google that: "unsw non-standard entry medicine"

If anyone wants some more comforting stats, last year the threshold for interview invites was 99.50 Selection Rank and 90%ile UCAT (2960). I got an interview but didn’t make it unfortunately! Anyone who got above for *both* thresholds got an invite. Emphasis on both. If you got say a 99.95 but 88%ile UCAT for example, you would not get an interview. Obviously this can change again this year (they change like every year), so just try your best everyone!! ☺️

thanks so much for writing this Anabel, i actually had no idea haha. best of luck for the year ahead :)

@@hellothysworld yep! This was apparently sent to individuals who didn’t get an interview and they were notified of the cutoffs. Competition is very tough!

How about if I got a 90th percentile for the ucat or above but bummed my ATAR score? xD
@frontierbrainanabel50702 жыл бұрын
@@salihaameer7675 Then you wouldn’t get an interview, sorry! You need to get above the minimum for both! (But this may change again this year...)
@hellothysworld2 жыл бұрын
@@salihaameer7675 think you asked this to Anabel, but just in case - yeah minimum ATAR is 96.00 w/o EAS (but may differ with Indigenous entry scheme or rural entry scheme). need both high UCAT + ATAR//selection rank combo for UNSW. if your ATAR is lower, other places to think about - JMP, WSU/CSU. pretty sure other states too, but im only familiar with the NSW unis

University Clinical Aptitude Test ANZ for medicine and dentistry entry "The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT ANZ) is an admissions test used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental and clinical science degree programmes. The test helps universities to select applicants with the most appropriate abilities and professional behaviours required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as interviews and academic qualifications." Source: www.ucat.edu.au

Thanks, this was so helpful! I have a question about ucat testing time. Would u pick 8am or 4pm time for sitting ucat? I have a hard choosing the best time
@hellothysworld2 жыл бұрын
glad it was helpful! i reckon 4pm would be better if you have to travel to the centre (gotta factor in travel time). plus you get to eat lunch, have a snack relax and chillout! whilst 8am is a bit of rush and there's danger of oversleeping. but it also depends if you're a morning person or not, when your brain works best etc hope that helps + good luck!!!

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing - one of the best videos about this topic. One question is, the fee for med school is so high, then any financial aid is available?
@hellothysworld2 жыл бұрын
thank you Brendan - i appreciate the comment! :- ) not too familiar with financial aid, so did a bit of research for you. www.international.unsw.edu.au/financial-aid talks about financial aid for international students from various countries www.scholarships.unsw.edu.au/scholarships/id/1561 details scholarships available for students studying at UNSW, further criteria and how to apply. specifically, there are 3 scholarships for students studying 'medicine and health' - UNSW Medicine Equity Scholarship, Potishko Family Goldman Sachs Gives Scholarship, Dr Ho Kok Tong Scholarship. www.scholarships.unsw.edu.au/scholarships/search?faculty=M&show=all more scholarships for unsw students. i've filtered scholarships that unsw medicine students can apply for, so have a read. importantly, there are scholarships for international students too - International Scientia Coursework Scholarship, Future of Change Scholarship, Australia's Global University Award (PUCA1026) also, for current unsw med students, UNSW medsoc does offer financial assistance for some events like medcamp hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions 😁
