This is pure gold Jeff. Will save me days of head banging. Thanks for posting.

Great job I wish I would have found this before I started, my cnc is home built and using the same driver and vfd as shown, spent all day wiring got it all to work but the speed control, now it works to....GREAT JOB

Thanks mate. I build my cnc router about 4years ago and only got it running a month ago. But not the spindle. I will follow your guidance and get spindle turning on with mach3. Thanks

Valuable information and I will try implementing this in the morning. Bit disconcerting when the camera moves so much and all over the place but phps there was enough meat to get me over the line

Your ramp up speed can be adjusted in your VFD. Seem to be very slow to the assign speed. The same is true for your ramp down speed it can be adjusted.

Nice one Jeff, I missed that jumper too, also 2 days and no luck :)

Awesome same boat here, think im going to try to wire it. Little story about these spindles. I actually fried one of these to the point that the smoke burned my eyes in the garage. I got it full returned and a brand new one. I told them(which i did) i changed a setting to default(from the manual) and poof. Was a pain for the cost to ship to China and plus it went back to the wrong spot. So they gave me a full refund and i bought a brand new one. Great spindle i still feel the VFD is cheap. For any beginning its cheap to start with though.

This is good info!... I've been researching which spindle I'm going to go with. I've been looking for about a week for information like this. I'm probably going to go get this from eBay now :)

I have the same setup except I am using the smooth stepper. I cannot get any PWM out on the gecko. :(

Great video bud... I am in the process of making a CNC system and this is going to come in very helpful.

Im about to post some videos of my new Joes CNC build I just completed this week. A fantastic machine, much happier with my new one over my old one!

Hi you have 5 black wires out of you VDF but only 3 pins 7 8 9 on the gecko what have I missed where the other two go??? Mike

I just purchased the same setup and wondering if you have the VFD settings written down that you set your system up with? I think the VFD is a newer version, but I have the 2.2KW spindle, using the G540, and Mach 3. Thanks, Steve

I am currently in the same situation. Thank you for simplifying it. Would there be a way you could write down the from an to? Like from the VFD to 540. I have trouble understanding schematics. Also, do I need to relay? If so, what type of relay and where do you hook it up? Thanks
@alaninness74988 жыл бұрын
You do not need the relay for FOR, especially a 20 ampere one! Just go from G540 output to FOR in and connect DCM to term 12. The mosfet output with drive the minor input current of 3ma of the VFD.

Alan Inness can u explain this in laymans terms
@jonnylbluejeans6 жыл бұрын
Alan, are you saying to run Term 12(Ground) from the G540 to the DCM terminal in the VFD? Is this to complete the loop for the G540 Pin 5 to the VFD FOR?
@PhoKingLitMedia Жыл бұрын
the terminal 12 on the g540 is an input terminal. are you saying to connect the DCM on the VFD to the input terminal 12 on the G540?

as you said "Im not an eletrician" .. ;O) PWM = Pulse Width Modulation The VFD is "not masuring the frequency" its measuring the PWM (the difference in the digital signals being high or low)

xang72 thank you for sharing the facts with those who might be searching here for answers.

No. it is CLEAR in what it does. it MODULATES the WIDTH of the PULSES. it varies the WIDTH of the PULSE also called "DUTY CYCLE" somewhere between 1% and 99% of each Cycle. (in the digital Pulse train. No the Power freq. cycle)

Why do you use pin 5&6 my wiring diagram has 6&7 still can’t get this to work Donp

I have exactly the same issue with my RPM. Did you find how to fix it?
@jeffjarecki20368 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately, my -g540 fried on the port that activates the spindle. I'm afraid to return it for warranty repair because I have before and they always blame it on me, so for the moment I've lost the ability to activate my spindle with my controller.
@Mokra068 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Jarecki So not on the VFD it was on your G540. Do you still recommend trying this? What pin actually relays this info?
@miahdavis7 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same equipment. Any chance you have your vfd parameters? I can get the vfd to turn on and it will run up to a set frequency. No matter what i change in mach3 it doesn't change the speed. (I've verified all my settings and wiring against your video as well) any ideas?

Vfd Parameters should be 60 Hz Not 50 Hz. This is why wrong Rpm.. 60 Hz Wall power, 60 Hz Base PWM In Mach, 60 Hz Input Param on Vfd Set the vfd to 60hz and change mach to 60 too.
@joebluth7677 жыл бұрын
which input parameter on the vfd are you talking about?
@jesscast51225 жыл бұрын
NO DUDE! This is a VFD!! Power line frequency is IRRELEVANT. as it FIRST converts the AC to DC Then uses DC to create the new SINE WAVES 3Phase of VARIABLE freq. as desired. So the MOTOR Sine Waves are UNRELATED to the 60hz of the Power line..........

Can you provide more information about the relay you used? Im assuming its just closing a circuit? I saw in the comments @alaninness7498 said you don't need a relay. can you confirm this?
