Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the correct order: 1. Visit the US Embassy and get an "Statement in Lieu of Certificate" for the US citizen. 2. Obtain for both partners a CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage). 3. File for your marriage license which takes 10-15 days. Does anyone know the answer for the 3rd part? We plan to do a civil wedding and not in a church.

Hi Scott and Rose. My wife and I married in Australia and I still feel badly that my wife's Family wasn't there. We took on advice from Australian immigration Agents who said doing that would avoid potential problems when coming to applying for my wife's Partner Visa here in Australia. My wife says she is OK with it? What I now wished we had done was to marry in the Philippines first and then marry in Australia. Very nice information Scott and all the best together guys :)

Hi Scott, congratulations to you and Rose. My wife is also a Filipina and we were married in the Philippines. It took us a total of 21 days and a lot of paperwork we had to go through. It's not quite downhill from the point of your comment. The mandatory seminar class takes half of a day to complete. But all of it was worth it.

You forgot to mention your birth certificate. You need to bring that as well. Also why would you want to continue with the K1 Visa when you want to get married in the Philippines. Perhaps you would want to apply for a IR1 or a CR1 spousal Visa. Longer wait time but she would get green card within a week of arriving. I'm curious about the age difference between you two as well. Yeah you messed up.

What if you don't have your divorce decree any more because you got divorced about 20 years ago? Is the CENOMAR ONLY saying you have not been married in the Philippines or never married? Also don't both of you need to go to marriage counseling?

I did mine at the US Consular office in Cebu. It was walk-in, first-come/first-served basis each day from 8:30 A.M - 10:30 AM. But I'm not sure if that has changed because of covid. He must bring his passport. If he has been married before, then he will have to bring his divorce degree too. He will need to make an appointment with the US Embassy and bring $50 US or pay with credit card.
