Thanks so much! I've been doing The Middle Age for four years and I'm still trepidatious as I hit the 'publish' button. I think, if we really pour our hearts into these, it's only natural that we're concerned about how each episode is received. Just remember that most readers are rooting for us. They want us to do well. Jerks will be jerks and we're not creating webcomics for them. :)

The results of this have not made any significant change so far. However, I did add my comic-persona at the end of the comic with a comment about the episode which increased some conversation in the comment section and more engagement with the comic as a whole.

Philip, hi! I checked out Clover and Nugget and the cover art is adorable! I've subscribed! Another recommendation regarding Genre (which I didn't have time to mention because I felt the video was already getting a bit too long), is that you should consider including at least one of the main Genres (Comedy, Fantasy, Romance, Slice of Life, Sci-Fi, Drama, Action, or Superhero). The two Genres you've selected (Animals and Heartwarming) are initially hidden from view under "Others.' If you choose, say, Comedy and Animals, you'll get in front of a lot more people. Definitely something I'd suggest trying.

For help with posting often, I highly recommend not posting your webtoon episodes right after you finish them and save a few episodes for buffers! I know it's tempting to upload right when the episode is completed but save a few! It's nice to have a few episodes completed so you can schedule them for steady upload schedule, and even to have some ready for weeks when you get busy and can't finish comic work as easily. When I was a Canvas creator, I had an unsteady freelance work schedule outside of my comic so I'd make batches of 5 episodes and then post when I finished the 5th one. Then I'd get to working on the next 5 while not having to worry about uploading. I'm currently an Original creator and I have a 10-13 week buffer in case something ever happens so I'm not scrambling or needing to go on hiatus to catch up. Find what works with your life but having a few saved will help keep a steady upload schedule!

Thank you for the tips!! I started a while ago I am still new at digital art and my genre is comedy so it is harder to get any attention. I will definitely try these. Btw my webtoon is called Life Of A teenager if anyone is interested.
@SteveConleyArt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dido! Good luck with your comic! You're right about the Comedy genre, there are so many comedy webcomics that you can get pushed off that Genre page pretty quickly.

Reddit kills me, I get a few followers by BUYING priority on Instragram, I post on Facebook, I've tried Webtoons. EVEN if I was the WORST webcomic in the world I still think I'd get more views. Honestly the best traffic I ever got over the course of the last 3 years was Project Wonderful. I'm still plodding along. Maybe someday.

Thanks so much for the advice! I'll be sure to try out the different times method to see if anything changes. I've always had it set on the same time, but seeing how you mention that can change the statistics overtime, I gotta plan better. My comic's name is "Noir the Bloodborne" by MiniMichi, if there's anyone who wants to take a look. It's fantasy/drama with perhaps a hint of action but we don't have an option to apply a 3rd genre.

Thanks a lot, this was really helpful. My webtoon is "A Trip back to Hell, please", and I never knew if I should change my cover or keep the first one, and I never experimented with uploading at different times. I'll try your tips out
@SteveConleyArt4 жыл бұрын
I hope the tips help, Rodrigo! As for the cover, the best thing would probably be to try a few different ones and see which ones work best. Just keep in mind, the covers/thumbnails are seen alongside a dozen other thumbnails and you want something that stands out from the crowd.

I was wondering about genre switching, thanks !
@SteveConleyArt3 жыл бұрын
Brian, I started graphing how long each post appeared on each Genre front page and found that I could, after it dropped off the Comedy front page, switch the comic's genres to a less popular genre and the comic would instantly appear in reverse-chronological order in the new Genre section. In the end, I don't think it would result in more readers since Genre is really about reader expectations - likely the subject of another video.

Thank you for these tips! This addressed my biggest concern actually. I’m preparing about 50 panels of comics in advance before I officially launch my webtoon, but I kept wondering if multiple updates of shorter pages or one big update would be better. I dream of becoming a webtoons original, but you’re right, Canvas operates on different rules of new and small creators.

Thank you for the tips, it's really helpful. i'm currently reading a comic on webtoon which title is no is NO. I talked with the illustrator(her psuedo is KuruLife) and she said that people were intentionally rating her comic one star and sending her racial slurs because she's black. Please go support her and give her a higher rating, she is talented and deserves to know it !

Great editing and the format of the video was very easy to follow. I honestly didn't think I'd want to watch the whole thing due to my own short attention span and the fact that it was longer than ten minutes, but you kept it interesting and to the point. Helpful tips too- I hadn't heard these before so I learned some new things. Thanks for sharing :) Edit: Also, I just thought of a question. Not sure if you'll see this, but if you do, do you think it's necessary to already have an audience before airing your first episode? Or, do you have any advice about using social media to advertise your comic? I had no social media or any kind of online presence four months ago, but made an account on Instagram recently because I heard that it's very difficult to gain readers without that.
@SteveConleyArt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Dreaming Blue! As for your questions, I'm planning to address those very questions at length in a future video but, quickly, I'd say that social media *can* help but it's not as helpful as it once was and losing effectiveness every day. Social media is only a small piece of what we can do to get the word out.
