LOL the 12 and 16 had good gas coverage cuz you got colors Blues purples Reds and golds is that dull gray is because it was too hot and didn't have enough gas coverage when cooling off

another thing to note if your looking for purples and blues in your weld you actually want less shielding a perfectly shielded stainless weld will be silver only travel speed plays a role since the slower you go the more shielding the weld is going to get also the faster you go the less shielding the weld is going to get because the cup is gone so shielding is gone travel speed may possibly be a bigger player than cup size

Not really. Go give it a try. Slow saturates the metal with heat. You will really see this in mild steels that lack the ability to distribute heat as quick as ss. You can make it look just as nice as ss but it requires a lot of gas and letting it cool as you go. You can see this on my instagram account. I post lots of mild steel there. You part right. In the “go slower” idea. Like I said at the end. You only do what the cup will allow, like 8-10 dabs and stop, shield it and when it’s cool, repeat.

yeah when i say speed i mean going fast vs normal you can't go "slow" on stainless isn't an option, i have furick bbw and i don't see much a difference in a 8 or 10 with a 1/8" to 1/4" stick out on them now if i have a 3/8"+ stickout on the bbw is much better for sure

Part Out hum. Maybe I just don’t understand what you mean. Throw up a video. If it’s something I don’t know about, I’d like to see.

I think what he means is that as soon as the shielding gas goes past the portion you just welded, the color comes up. I’ve noticed that too. If I do a very short weld,, it can be totally silver, which is ideal. That’s because the gas is there until the temp goes below the oxidation point. The problem with going slower, on a longer weld, is that you do have more heat to get rid of, so while the longer gas dwell is preventing oxidation, for a time, it’s overcompensated by the higher heat in the weld, and area around it. I’ve experimented with a small gas tent, and find that everything comes out silver. Doesn’t mean that you aren’t getting chromium carbide, because you still are. I do want to say though, that mild steel is a better conductor of electricity and heat than stainless, which is why stainless warps so much more.

Hey Mike, every thought of doing a video on how you first figured out the down pipe curves? The “donut” method... just thought some might like to see the evolution to how you do it now.

Color- shmuler....... shit all looks the same after a few glowing red hot heat cycles. Color...that's that fan-boi-instagram-weldporn-youtube life. Does it last mechanicaly? Does it crack in service? How's the pen? Show us how to run a proper gap and a keyhole with backpurge, leaving a bead on the inside and out.

Hey Mike, I just ordered a number 12 cup and some 045 filler rod from you, I think the number 12 cup would be a good starting point for me and can get by with a little less gas, I all ready have the gas lense and collet body for the 3/32 and the 1/16 tungsten so I should be all set. Thanks

I need some problems of adjust gas meter L/min . How many I need to adjust when welding steel? and keep welding colorfull
@chrisrenaud41416 жыл бұрын
if you want color welding steel try using 309L filler rod

So thats how you get your color? Not enough gas shielding is the key? You know, me English is far from perfect :) I think I didn't get the point of this film. You are using few different cups, different size each but same gas flow. Why? I know you are good at welding so...have no idea why you did it and what for. What did you expect was going to happen there if you don't adjust gas flow to cup size?

Karol Piotrowski yes you can google weld color and see charts.

I don't understand the objective of this video. Color or no color. Why do you want the color.

You're seriously using a supplied air helmet but wearing a T shirt? I can't take you seriously. And to think I actually watched one of your videos before this 🤔

geoff glumm was it the one were I was mig welding in a speedo?

Monkey Fabrication Garage no, this whole video on stainless Tig welding....if anything it's cool to promote your company but to advertise bad personal protection equipment is not cool. Hope someone Tig welded in a T shirt after watching this video, Darwinism is real. You're only promoting it now...lol @ the don't touch it like an idiot Mike (the videos playing in the background 😂)

geoff glumm you’re right. Possibly breathing a vaporizes chemical that could kill you on the spot holds the exact same weight as a sun tan, Genius.

Lol maybe it's because he doesn't want to breathe vaporized chromium or other nasty stuff but doesn't mind the possibility of a slight sun burn.
