As the #paris2024 #olympics draw near, I decided to check out China's Olympic Legacy by visiting the Bird’s Nest, in Beijing, and climbing onto the roof WITHOUT WEARING SAFETY GEAR!!!!
First I had to figure out how to get inside the stadium.
Once inside, I needed to plan a safe route to the top; after all, I'm not wearing safety gear.
And then once I managed to get onto the roof, I found a safe location from which I could take in some of the best views of Beijing and enjoyed one of the most unique sunset locations I've ever been to.
Want to see how I did it?
Would you dare to do this? Let me know in the comments section. And if you like the video, please do hit the LIKE BUTTON, because it really helps. Thanks for watching. Stay safe and keep looking out for one another.

Awesome collection at the museum! The design of the 2008 Olympic torch (which you passed at 2:02) was based on traditional scrolls and used a traditional Chinese design known as the "Propitious Clouds" (祥云). The torch was designed to remain lit in 65 km/h (40 mph) winds, and in rain of up to 50 mm (2 in) per hour. Love the Fuwa from Beijing 2008 and all the details about them! Like their names Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini form the sentence "北京欢迎你/Beijing huanying ni" or Beijing welcomes you"! Jingjing is of course inspired by the giant panda, but also Song Dynasty lotus-shaped porcelain. Yingying was inspired by the Tibetan antelope and Tibetan and Xinjiang ethnic costumes. The Tibetan antelope, or chiru, are found only in the Tibetan plateau. Chiru have adapted to live in the Tibetan Plateau thanks to their thick, woolly coats, the underfur of which is one of the lightest and warmest in the world. Males have long vertical horns that begin growing after about a year and reach up to 60 centimeters in length Beibei took her motif from traditional Chinese New Year decorative picture of lotus and fish and the fish design from Neolithic artifacts. In Chinese culture, the fish represents prosperity, as the character for fish (鱼 / 魚; yú) sounds the same as that for surplus (余 / 餘; yú). The "carp leaping over the dragon gate" is a traditional allegory of following one's dreams and achieving them. The pattern from Beibei's headgear comes from artifacts unearthed at Banpo, site of a Neolithic village of the Yangshao culture. Huanhuan was inspired by both the Olympic flame and a fire design in the Mogao Caves, also known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas. Nini was inspired by both the sand martin/bank swallow and Beijing's sand martin kite. The swallow is of course a messenger of spring and happiness in Chinese culture, and is seen as a symbol of good fortune. The Chinese character for swallow (燕 yàn) is also used in Yanjing (燕京), an old name for Beijing, thus the swallow alludes to Beijing!

"I wonder if they want a signed copy of my shirt once I finish filming this....they definitely don't" maybe they wouldn't, but we would! 😂 And the guy walking in the background at 2:56 looking at Stu is like "Bro thinks he's a champion" 🤣. Using the audio from the 2008 drummers performance in the intro...chef's kiss! Those drummers continue to give me goosebumps! For those who don't know, the drummers were chanting in unison a line from the 2,000-year-old Analects of Confucius, “Isn’t it delightful to have friends coming from afar?”. Breathtaking views from the roof of the stadium! Love that such a cool museum is free! What a stunning stadium! An interesting fact about the Bird's Nest stadium is despite the nickname, the Bird's Nest or Beijing National Stadium wasn't meant to be a nest, but based off Chinese ceramics! They implemented steel beams in order to hide supports for the retractable roof, but after a collapse of a roof at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, they decided to eliminate the retractable roof! But the chief architect Li Xinggang said one can perceive it as how a bird's nest is special in China, and only eaten on special occasions. Twenty-four trussed columns encase the inner bowl of the Beijing National stadium, each one weighing 1,000 tons. Despite the random appearance of the Stadium, each half is nearly symmetrical! And the Water Cube next door that complements it is just as unique and awesome with its design! The Water Cube was designed to capture and recycle 80% of water that falls on the roof or lost from pools! Its cool exterior bubble cladding is made of 4,000 ETFE bubbles! Its steel frame is the largest ETFE-clad structure in the world with over 100,000 m² of ETFE pillows! The Chinese partners felt a square was more symbolic to Chinese culture and its relationship to the Bird's Nest stadium while the Sydney-based partners came up with the idea of covering the 'cube' with bubbles. Contextually, the Cube symbolizes Earth, while the circle (represented by the elliptic stadium) represents heaven, a common motif in ancient Chinese art. The ETFE cladding, supplied and installed by the firm Vector Foiltec, allows more light and heat penetration than traditional glass, resulting in a 30% decrease in energy costs.

Not overpraising or being biased but the Summer Olympics 2008 and Winter Olympics 2022 had no match so far. No other nation had organized the Olympics the way China did. I still remember when we were awestruck on the opening day of Summer Olympics 2008 and of course Winter Olympics 2022. Proud of China!

There have been some amazing Olympics over the past several decades! I remember Atlanta (I think 1996) was also wonderful. Wish I could have gone to London's Olympic Games. I was in China at the time, with a poor internet connection. Missed a lot of the track and field. Apparently, the atmosphere was excellent, and the weather was good, which is very rare for UK. 2027 World Athletics Champs will be in Beijing, at the Bird's Nest. I can't wait!

I forget how cool that stadium is! The sunset on the roof looked amazing, yet strangely enough, I think the stadium being artificially lit up red looked even cooler! With all the election craziness in the US and the horrors and warmongering in the world, I haven't thought a lot of the Olympics coming up, so it's cool to see the 2024 mascot and to know what its name is~
