Thank you for this talk, so many important points given. The quality of the audio recording and microphone prove Yanis' point about Germany's third world technology level for public affairs. In fact, being from the third world and having public gatherings and discussions logistically very like this one with certain frequency, I can tell you, we do better audio for public talks even outdoors. Now, the quality of the ideas of this talk is remarkable, and that is why I listened through it all. I agree very much, there will be rationing, there has to be full on organized and mandatory de-growth or we just have destructive collapse and gauging, as we currently are feeling (again, we have been living it in that place people like to call, with polite-sounding geographical terms, the global south, since the mid 90s at least) for the past decade in full. Furthermore, migration is and will be happening as in Europe's, Australia's and the US's wildest media-juiced nightmares, but trust me, the nightmares of the people migrating are way more terrible and way more real. Both what Karin and what Yanis say will be the case: rich countries have to really help and "gift money" directly and fully to the countries that are really being way more affected by Climate catastrophe to help keep some living conditions for some of us to be able to stay, but when the heat and crop failures become constant, borders will have to be brought down because human beings, as all animals, do not stay in a place that is unlivable... we will see and have to deal with the phenomenon if and when it comes, where rich countries go full blown Israel on thousands of millions of people looking to survive. Thank you for this discussion, how do we regain power when everything seems to be controlled by the few and so centralised. Example! I stayed in a motel in Melbourne recently.... I Commented on how comfy the bedding was. Low and behold a link appeared on the review section for online store they provide to buy the product provided by the hotel group. So I looked at this more and sure enough this same hotel/ motel group owns most of the accommodation throughout Victoria statewide and Australia wide. They also own all Safeway group liquor store's pubs/the pokies, Bunnings store's Energy companies, fertiliser company,Kmart/ and Target.... And so many other companies under different names , but all owned by the one group. It feels so overwhelming. How do we compete with these behemoths and the technocrats... Thanks for at least trying to get some hope back for our future and democracy.

Totally agree, we need international planning and regulation to reprioritize our value systems-we need to leave behind GDP as an accurate measure of common health/wealth and focus on ecology and global community wellbeing. Our current situation is riding on the last fumes of credit, western excess has not only pushed the problems of capital away into the global south, but also into the future-we have been cannibalizing the future and will be left holding an unpayable bill soon. We could have slower lives, better health, more time for family and community and less toxic burnout working conditions if we pursued the justice inherent to Degrowth ideas. The only hurdle is the scariness of the word “planning” (regulation)-but what else to do when we are rocketing past planetary boundaries and the ability of nature to regenerate itself from our excessive consumption?

You do not need to agree with all what Yanis says (I don't) to recognize his imprescindible brilliance for any contemporary debate. In this one I agree with all (except his negative judgement of Putin, which, I believe is too one-dimensional; of course I do not deny that the man is no angel). In any case, the way Yanis defends his arguments in this particular debate is memorable. Yanis at his best.
