HiI get so nervous from competing as a strength athlete it's like A day before competition I cannot sleep.On competition day: My chest is tight, breathing is difficult, I'm shaking like hell............... like a kid watching a horror movie whose scared to hell. It has become so overwhelming that I have not competed for 10 years in any competitions. I am confident that I am strong and good but the nervousness stop me from competing. Even writing this is overwhelming me now.

huh... pretty good advice actually. I think back to when I had to read something in front of the whole class in school, always got super nervous and started to stutter, red face, swettin tons and all throughout that I tried to fight it. Tried to choke all those feelings, but later just accepted that it was going to happen no matter what and just "gave in". suddenly I was much less nervous and I did fine, sometimes fighting is the wrong thing to do, just give up and you'll do better, strange

I usually get really nervous for lacrosse games because I get so confused on the field, LOL. So sometimes I tell myself how quickly the games go by and how I won't be playing the game for the rest of my life. I also try and think of fun things that are coming up after, like sitting with my friends watching the varsity game afterwards and eating food or (if it's on a Friday) what I will do on a weekend. I usually think that EVERYBODY is watching me and if somebody calls out my name and tells me to do something, it makes me nervous and not very confident in what I'm doing. But what y'all (and I) have to do is remember that literally only your parents or your siblings (sometimes not even them lol) are watching you, that's it. I actually have a game today sooo yikes but it's okay because I'm just thinking about the weekend. I hope this might help some other people :-)

If you can afford it, I would suggest you to get therapy. I'm a massive underachiever in life, pressure just destroys me. I missed several big chances in my life. I lost the opportunity to study in one of the best universities here in Latin American, I was literally shaking before entering the exam. You are very young and probably very smart, so therapy will probably provide tools that will give you a big advantage in life.

Hey! During training when my team does team drills I manage to shoot in most of my shots and I manage to do my runs right but when I play a full court game and I try shooting I overstress myself and I panic a lot causing me to run the wrong direction, not focus, drop balls and miss my shots :/ and because of that my coach doesn’t want to put me to play a shooter position but I really like to play the shooter position! Any tips to help?
@mentaltoughnesstips6 жыл бұрын
Clarabelle Lim so happy you reached out! Number 1 of the 5 tips I gave you in this video is really powerful and will help you. We call it mental practice. It takes just 1 minute and it's a total game changer. You practice ahead of time exactly how you want to the game to go. In your mind see or tell yourself how you want to feel and perform. Bring in all 5 senses. You can even picture yourself nervous AND you are still able to focus and perform to your full potential. Another tip is to focus on all the things you love about your sport. You can make a BIG and detailed list and add to it often and then read it frequently. Especially if you are feeling pressure or nervousness. You are playing because you love the sport otherwise you wouldn't be there and sometimes we lose focus of this and the pressure takes over and it interfers with performance. I have worked with 1000's of athletes that have used these methods and they work! Great job working on your mental game!!

J o n a t h a n this is common amongst athletes. You are not alone. Use the " AND" world to help you. So you can say something to yourself like " Ok, that play didn't go exactly how I wanted AND I'll get it next time ". I have worked with 1000's of athletes that use this with great success! You can do it!
