@@Andre69420 The overlay does not run on the console. it runs in the web browser on top of the twitch channel. The twitch extension is what handles the running of the overlay. That's the part where you go to twitch and creator dashboard and enable the extension. You won't see the overlay on the console.

@@Andre69420 twitch extensions don't work on mobile devices. The mobile apps don't have a full desktop browser which is required by the extensions.

@TheApocalypse448 so the Xbox camera is part of the console stream. When you broadcast from the Xbox directly you can enable the camera and it’s part of the stream. You don’t send it separately to the overlay. The overlay is like a mask that runs on top of the twitch channel in the browser. You may need to play around with position if you’re putting a border around the camera. It’ll just be an empty box in the overlay that the camera section of the screen hopefully fits into. Hope that makes sense.

When you say uploading do you mean adding the images to overlay expert? They may be having some issues so you could give it a few hours and try again.

these extensions are not 'baked' into the stream. they actually run in the person's browser while they're on the twitch website over top of it. Not great i know, but it's all console streamers can get by with for free for now.

Are the viewers on mobile? unfortunately mobile devices don't support twitch extensions at all. they need a full desktop browser in order to leverage some CSS code to be displayed, which the mobile app doesn't support.

Check the canvas size of your overlay in overlay expert, and also make sure your images and things for the overlay are the correct size to match your stream resolution. If you're streaming 1080p then your images need to be 1920x1080.

that's normal. twitch extensions need a full browser to leverage some code to be displayed over the top of the twitch channel. mobile browsers and the twitch app don't support it.

For the same reason it can't be saved in a VOD, the overlay is running ON TOP of a browser. It needs an actual full browser to leverage some code to display on top of the twitch channel window. Since the mobile app isn't a real browser, there's no way to get the extension to display. Twitch could eventually fix this to work, but so far no dice.

Is there any way to make the overlay actually appear on the twitch stream and not just the browser? It's a twitch extension that literally doesn't even show on the twitch app. Nobody uses a browser to watch streams. I get that it's free, but it only half works. So frustrating.

Hey I totally get that. It is pretty insane that TWiTCH extensions don’t work on a TWITCH app. It’s really all we have in the free realm. However if you don’t mind paying, check out lightstream. It actually embeds the overlays into the stream. It’s more of a middle man than an overlay. I believe it is a monthly cost but not sure how much.

Overlay expert uses Stripe for donations. Under the alerts there should be a ‘stripe’ section that will link your stripe account to overlay expert. I don’t get any donations so I havent tested or set this up personally.

Hey, I think this might be an issue I see cause whenever I put 8000ms for the "Preview Animation" for something like a New Follower alert, it seems to only show me a 4000ms preview instead of my prefered 8000ms (8s)?? Is this just a default 4s preview? Also, massive respect to replying to comments 1yr later

It's been a while since i've messed with this, but there might be a max time on the alert. although 4 seconds seems pretty weak. It may be just a preview thing, but I would hope it would show the actual length so you can dial it in.

Omg! I’m never going to get an overlay to work, I followed every step and the last step with the brb screen seemed to mess everything up. My first screen with the same background u used some how the brb screen took it over so I lost the main screen ugh…. I have been working on trying to figure this out for 3 days now. When u clicked the check mark after the chat thing, I only had my brb screen still up and the other stuff was on top of it like the follower count and info but the frame was gone

Overlay expert can be extremely finicky. Is your overlay still in tact on the design screen? You may need to reorder your layers on the main overlay to make sure you have the BRB screen where you want it. Usually you would put it on top (i think) and then hide it, and rely on the chat command to unhide it.

These overlays aren’t ’baked’ into the stream. They’re only laying on top of the browser window on the client side when watching live. Since it’s not technically part of the stream signal it’s not part of the VOD. Also why mobile viewers can’t see them.

They leverage some browser code in order to display over the twitch channel page, since the app and mobile browsers don't have that capability they can't be displayed. These tires of twitch extensions only work in a full browser and only at the time of being live. They’re not ‘baked’ into the stream and won’t be saved on VODs. They’re essentially laying on top of the browser window like a mask when you’re running live. Since the mobile app and mobile browsers don’t have the necessary code to slow this to happen they can’t be shown. And since they’re not actually IN the stream, they’re not saved.

When you’re on your channel do you see the little box on the right that shows the overlay? If you click on it does it have the visible box checked? You may need to uninstall and reinstall the extension and also make sure you’ve activated the extension for overlay1 on the twitch extensions.

What do you mean it's not matching? Depending on the resolution you're streaming at it should be 1080p or 720p for the size of the image, if it's a full overlay. These types of twitch extensions only work on full browsers at the moment. It's up to twitch to enable it on mobile and console devices. Minor setback but at this point we take what we can get.

The extension is running on top of the twitch channel page. It’s not embedded as part of the stream. The twitch recording can only capture the stream itself. Since this is running on TOP of it, it won’t be recorded.

I did the follower alert in the video, the subscriber should be the same, you just need to choose the subscriber event instead of the follow event. As for donations, overlay expert is using a different third party payment vendor, i haven't set up donations through them, but I know the normal donations won't trigger anything in overlay expert.

It is a tad more complicated overall, but for streamlabs you need OBS, and this runs right in the twitch channel broswer so you don't need a PC to keep this running (only for the initial setup). As far as donations, I don't think you can link this to stripe or paypal for donations/tips. They have some proprietary credit card processor that you have to set up for the donations/tips to work.

I make a lot of my overlays using GIMP or Canva both free. Streamlabs has a few free options as well as Own3d that you can download. If you want highly custom ones you may have to find a designer and pay some money.

I made it in a free program called GIMP. A photoshop clone. I use it for everything and is great for transparent png files. I also put a link to my google drive in the description of the video for a download of what i started with. It's not much, but it's a start.

You’ll still need a way to read chat. The overlays don’t feed back into the console you’re playing on.

You of course need a pc to set it all up. But as far as chat commands you only need access to chat. So your phone, a tablet, whatever lets you chat will allow you to trigger chat commands.

You’ll need to make sure you’re using a transparent png. A JPG won’t have transparency. If you need to remove a background there are some free background removal tools online if you google them.

I'm not 100% sure on that or not, but you can always give it a shot. It may have issues with it not being the top layer, or you may have to start the stream and then run the commands to unhide/hide each layer.

check your canvas size in overlay expert, and make sure it's set correctly to the same size you're streaming at. Also check the size of your images.

These types of twitch extensions only work on full browsers at the moment. It's up to twitch to enable it on mobile and console devices. Minor setback but at this point we take what we can get.

If you check the video description there is a link to some of the image files i used. They're not great and some of them have my channel name on them, but it's a start. You can use anything like Canva or even GIMP to create your own.

These things can be finicky. You may need to allow pop ups if your browser blocks them. Or you mad try to sign out and back in. This is on a pc right? Extensions unfit don’t work on the mobile twitch. app

I don't believe so. Since the overlay is running over top of the twitch channel and not really interacting with any other desktop software, the only way to trigger anything is to send twitch chat commands which it can monitor.

You might need to check any alert layers to make sure they're set to the correct type of alert you want. i.e. time based or event based. i've never used their canned overlays so i can't say for sure.

Unfortunately this is a twitch extension, which doesn't support youtube. But I hear that youtube is trying to step up their streaming platform and will probably have something very similar to extensions in the near future.
