I would just get reps like 5, 2, 1 I switched to resting 5 minutes in between my press sets, and I immediately started getting 5, 5, 5 again. I just don't recover enough in 3 minutes.
@Mantorok12 Жыл бұрын
@@user-tz9jh6pv2j I would suggest you're hitting a point of diminishing returns in the linear progression. 3x5 with more weight is progress, but not strictly so if you need far more rest to accomplish it. If you can do 3x5xX with 4 minutes of rest, but 3x5x(X+5) takes 5 minutes of rest, those aren't the same conditions. That is regression rather than progression. Strength is a matter of intensity (weight), volume (reps), and work capacity (endurance). I would recommend looking for a periodization program, that goes from high volume with moderate intensity down to low volume with high intensity. Also do some cardio. 20 minutes on the treadmill with enough Incline to keep your heart rate up, you don't have to go fast.
@SamuelTitus-cz3fu9 ай бұрын
It's not complicted but you need to know what your weakness is. If it's triceps, do some pin pressing an inch above your head or include some isolation tricep work. If its your front delt include some db front raises at the end of the workout or seated db presses to stress the font delt without being limited by other potentially weak muscle groups. If it's your core, you can try some db windmills or one arm db presses for 8-10 reps or do some push presses and concentrate on slowly lowering the bar (5-8 secs) If a muscle is lagging you need to train outside of your main lift or change the lift varion at least.

The guy is already 200 lbs + with novice numbers at 5 foot 9 with novice numbers. The guy is already fat. He needs an intermediate program and to leave SS behind as his true novice gains are over. I just want to make a point about failure with presses. Being that it is fairly technical, I know it would be tempting to reset the weight if you fail a rep. I am a returning novice running the progression again until I make up for what I lost (I was laid off training for medical reasons). Today I was doing my 3 sets. On set one I failed the 4th rep. I took a longer break, probably 8-10 minutes, and then hit the other two sets for 5s. The last reps were probably 3 or 4 seconds. Then I hit a double to get all my volume in. This lift is very technical. Your body might tell you that it wants nothing to do with that weight even though you did a couple pounds less than that just 5 days ago. This is not like the other lifts. If you fail it does not necessarily mean you can't do it if you try again.

Answer to all problems : "Gain some weight". That's all fine and dandy, but at some point you gotta come up with a better answer
@jaghad3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, that is, in many cases, the only answer. Like Rip says you have to train the press more often. But having done so and having perfected the technique you cannot press more than a certain weight given your genetics and bodyweight. If you take drugs you change the equation, but, if that's off the table you are back to bodyweight and genetics. And, you can't do anything about your genetics. Thus, the only thing you can change is your bodyweight. It is that simple. I would not follow Rip's advice. I want to look good. I have accepted that given my weight, genetics, the time I can spend in the gym and recovery, I really can't do much about the weights I am lifting. But, hey, that is fine. I am satisfied with the outcome.

Doesn’t this depend on genetics and body type? I’m 5’11” and weigh 74kg. If I try and gain 5kg as quickly as possible I will just lay down fat. Last year I was 86kg, I’m stronger now at 74kg (though not strong by lifting standards).

5’9 200 pounds and Rips advice to “gain weight” 💀
@farhanhussain_3 жыл бұрын
I usually agree with Rip's ideas and have lot of respect for him, but I just don't agree when he always advices to gain weight for most problems. I would rather have a smaller press than to have a bigger gut/belly. It seems that LP is not working for that guy and he should try some intermediate program instead of gaining more weight and gut. His rest periods between sets are also quite long.
@09thespecialone3 жыл бұрын
And the thing this is that weight gain in order to progress on the Press, it does not work. The Press is, actually, the only compound lift insensitive to a change of bodyweight.

You should be able to approach double weight bench press you are still novice. If you gain weight you will definitely get stronger but if you are already fat obviously don't do it. Eventually at that weight you will simply have to put weight on.
