Very clear and informative, thank you. This is probably the fifth Filmic Pro “tutorial” I’ve watched in a row and this is the only one that actually explained how to use focus peaking.

Understanding how focus works in Filmic is one of the most essential things. Awesome tutorial, Rob! I know for a fact I never start filming until I've looked at Focus Peaking. But I also love the manual focus controls - the sweet spot for me is at 3 or 4 speed for that nice, smooth reveal.
@SmartphoneFilmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Thank Cindy! It's great to have so many options for getting great focus. I use 3 or 4 too! It's 100% the sweet spot.

I really like ur tutorial style, i searched a lot about filmic pro, most of them were useless. i bought filmic pro long long time ago and I don’t use it because I don’t understand well about focus, exposure, iso and shutter. It’s really confusing me. Now i have got some basic from you.

@@SmartphoneFilmmaker what i am trying to say is, most people use their turorials with objects and stuff, and i want to use it for myself just how u did. the way i can understand is when the person use front/back camera to his self as u did in this video.

Hello . Thanks for sharing the video. Under which all conditions you recommend locking focus and or exposure Thanks in advance
@SmartphoneFilmmaker2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I generally always keep my focus and especially exposure locked. I sometimes unlock the focus if someone is walking towards or away from camera so they stay in focus the whole shot or if I am shooting in a more run and gun style.

I don't know if this is only in the Android version. But if you tap the A and you're dialing the focus in with the focus wheel, it will give automatically green lines without tapping the FP button first. They will disappear after you stop focussing. Another use of focus peaking is fysical rack focussing. Tap FP and focus on the object you want to have sharp in the picture. Walk back so the object is out of focus. Then hit the record button and slowly walk to the object until you see green lines on the object, so it's in focus again.
@SmartphoneFilmmaker3 жыл бұрын
I didn't know you didn't have to press FP for focus peaking. Just tried that technique on my iphone and you are right. I haven't used focus peaking a huge amount but I will definitely use it more from now on. Good idea for push ins with FP too!
@Ditispeter3 жыл бұрын
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker The same works with zebras. Just tap the A button and dial in the exposure wheel. (Without tapping the zebra button) ;-)

You're welcome. Hmmm. Probably if using filmic pro I would keep the focus reticule large, on you and in auto focus.
@Camrographer2 жыл бұрын
I noticed that auto focus does not work when using the ultra wide angle lens on the iPhone 12 pro. I wonder if this is because of the larger depth of field. I do notice that there is substantially more Infocus when I use spoke peaking.
@SmartphoneFilmmaker Жыл бұрын
Yes. When using the ultra wide lens the auto focus locks to a certain distance. I think there's so much in shot that the focus might struggle to stay on the given subject. It's more for somewhat distant shots.
@IAMSTULITTLE3 жыл бұрын
Great video. 🤙 I could be wrong, but if you go into manual focus controls and adjust the focus pull speed then this is reflected back when you are in autofocus mode and you can choose whether it’s faster or slower to focus between objects. I have tested it a bit and there does seem to be a difference but I would love your input. 😊
@SmartphoneFilmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I haven’t actually thought of that so I will give it a try and let you know the results. 👍🏻 Would be cool if that is true!

One more idea to add: If you're vlogging and are going to stand a little further from the camera, you can use a stick with FP to see where the focus is without going to and fro. Once focus is locked, it may help. I don't do vlogging but I just got the idea
@SmartphoneFilmmaker Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea I used on some of my self shot short films especially.

@SmartphoneFilmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey. The two devices only connect via wifi (you don't need an actual wifi connection to a router ect.) to each other so you can't use a cable.

Thank you for your guide! One question. How to keep focus, if the object (somebody) comes to me or goes away from me? So when I cannot keep the distance (and very often there is no purpose to keep distance). If you have a good tip, trick, experience for this please could you tell me? Thank you!
@SmartphoneFilmmaker2 жыл бұрын
You can either double tap the focus reticule which makes it bigger, keep it unlocked, the object/character central and it should keep focus the whole way. Otherwise keep your thumb on the wheel and focus pull manually.

I’m having an issue with the focus. I use an IPhone 11 Pro Max(yes, it’s considered ancient now) and when filming today, even after locking the focus, the camera kept refocusing. We were trying to shoot a music video and this was the main issue besides the heat that was slowing us down. Any help is greatly appreciated, because we’re trying to correct these issues before our next filming day. 🤧🤧
@SmartphoneFilmmaker6 ай бұрын
Oh that's weird. It might need a uninstalling of the app and then reinstall it. Otherwise you might have to leave auto focus on if your subject is relatively still.
