How to get ready for marriage mentally and advice on what you can do to prepare.
Hey, it's Charli! Welcome to Chat with Charli. I seek to share my life experience to help black millennials go from frustrated to flourishing!
Today you'll hear my personal thoughts on "How to Know If you're Ready for Marriage"
Personally I don't think that you can be "ready" for marriage (or being a parent). HOWEVER, I do think that if you have the three character qualities that I discuss in the video that you are more likely to have a healthy marriage.
They are:
(1) Emotional Maturity (able to communicate how you feel without blaming others, take ownership over your actions, and respect for other people's ideas and opinions)
(2) Being a hard worker. Marriage (and parenthood) require a LOT of hard work. Decisions need to be made, plans need to be worked out, etc...if you're selfish and you want your spouse to serve you all the time, you will be setting yourself up for failure if you decide to get married and keep that mindset
(3) Open to change. I think 2020 has taught all of us that life comes at you fast, and the unexpected can actually happen. The same is true for marriage. If you plan to have a long lasting marriage than you need to be committed to staying with your spouse regardless of what unexpected changes come
