Very simple ways to get better that worked for me 1. Play more pickup and live games 2. Get away from social media 3. Weight room 4. Get your mental right and meditate(goes with number 2) 5. Individual training and repetition

Your videos are so straight to the point and my shooting and dribbling ability has increased significantly over the past few days just by implementing some of your advice. Thank you and God bless!

Great vid from experience I think a happy medium of reps and live pickup games help you get better. Pickup helps you play within a team structure, the reps make you a better individual player for the team

Is there anyway to replicate this live training when you don't have access to defense.
@alancenteno98045 ай бұрын
live training can be simply pickup games but if u dont have those either try to make urself have to do a read when training moves ( for example, when I was training my jab step i would have to say outloud 1 or 2. 1 means drive right and 2 means drive left)

I agree with the above comment for sure. Play as much as you can whether it’s 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 or 5 on 5, whatever. That will be extremely helpful. And then keep doing whatever other training you’re doing! It’s just important to play against defense as much as possible.

Have a kid and make them play defence.

Pair 2 or 3 skills together in your skills workout or add more game like constraints like timing, speed, change location etc. This will help things transfer better when you are on your own train

I played D1 and in the D-League and I appreciate what you’re trying to say, but you’re wrong about quite a bit. Individual work comes first. Reps matter more.

I can appreciate where you’re coming from, but you’re one person. And using your experience as a blanket blueprint is survivorship bias. I’ve spent years working with players from elementary school through college and pros, there are exceptions and outliers to every rule. Some players are so naturally gifted that anything they do will make them better. Does that mean that the things they do are “the best” when it comes to player development as a whole? Not necessarily. Was Ja Morant’s jump training as a kid, the “most” ideal way to train? Probably not, but because he’s a freak athlete, it didn’t matter. You give 100 other players the same training, none of them get those same results because none of them are Ja Morant. What does the science say? What does the actual experience of training hundreds of players say? Because if we don’t ask those questions we are doing a disservice to players. Both players who are naturally gifted and good and also players who will never come close to D1 hoops or pro ball like you played. The perception-action coupling is by far the most important process in training when it comes to getting better. Being able to process situations and make good decisions is crucial and when all you do is individual work, you don’t get that first step. So yeah, naturally gifted players will still be successful, but what about the 95% of players who aren’t in that category? They are going to struggle to see their practice reps translate into game success. Again, being around player development and truly getting a look at the why behind the struggles that players face, this is the reality. There are players out there who put in less individual work than you and are better than you. Likewise, there are players out there who have put in more time and individual work than you who aren’t as good and never made it to the level you did. Why? That’s the question we need to ask and have concrete evidence to back up the conclusion we come to. To me, this brings up what I would consider to biggest hindrance in player development, we settle for “this worked for me” and “this is what I did or saw so it must work for everyone” and we don’t ask: “Can we do this better?” Every other industry gets new information and progresses. Basketball development demonizes that.

@@VisionDrivenBasketball Okay, here's how I see it. Sure, I am one person, but that does not mean that my statement(s) are derived from my solo experience...my statements come from years of direct experience playing with and against some of the best players in the world. In your response you're comparing athleticism to skill. When I said reps matter I was referring to shooting/dribbling/stamina. Why do NBA shooters have the confidence they do? It's not from playing one on one games for an hour or two. It's from shooting 1,000 shots a day and then playing. I like your channel, and I like what you're trying to do, I just believe some things are missing. If you're open to it, let's have a 10-20 minute discussion?
