I use a variation of this setup indoors with a 20x20 HEPA furnace filter to keep my computer room dust and pollen free. My allergies get relief, and the room almost never needs cleaning. If you do some dusting, run it on high and watch all the flying dust in the sunbeams make a beeline for the filter. I love it.

@@ianthomas1201 I,.. can do better than that 😊 Any 20inch box fan will do. And you don't really need a HEPA Filter for most things. Any 20 inch filter rated Merv 11 or above filters most particulate matter that most would need. Including SMOKE. A MERV 13 and above will filter All Smoke, and most viruses too. A HEPA filter is usually rated at a Merv 17. And Expensive compared to the others. And the most RESTRICTIVE to airflow. And unlike a Furnace. A Fan may run for hours or days. And the higher the filter rating. The faster it will dirty and clog. I used this setup during the Wild Fire Smoke. And the Merv 11 worked pretty damn good. And still would discolor in a day. And you could tell the airflow slow by day 3 significantly. Lower rated filters can be used for every day use to catch a lot of the usual crap in the air. And you may find you don't have to dust near as often. ...does that help 🤗 And DON'T Spray Liquid into energized electrical equipment or devices. Just Don't 🤨

There was a man on KZbin who lived by a swamp. He killed millions of mosquitos. He used those larger fans and he used 2 of them with the same concept. The only difference is that he would let his dog hang out between the 2 fans to attract the mosquitos. His dog never got a single bite. The concept is that something that attracts mosquitos sits in the middle of the 2 fans which are blowing in the same direction.

50 years ago, a small burger joint in my town had a circular fluorescent light (regular, not UV), a fan inside that light, and a mesh bag hanging behind it. It stayed under the overhang near the order window. That thing would fill up fast. It looked like it was made by a company, but it's the only one I've ever seen.

When I was a kid, I found this exact same machine in my grandpa's pole barn. It had a circular UV tube and the aforementioned fan and bag, but the really grisly touch was a spinning grate just inside the intake, I suppose the Point of No Return. I hung it up in a tree near a yellowjacket nest, and while yellowjackets aren't too interested in UV light, one or two got too curious and POW. Grossest part was emptying the bag with still-half-alive bugs in it. Naturally I thought it was amazing and wanted to take it home but Mom thought it was horrid. Oh well. Lol

The mosquito trap in this video is originally from a video by Dan Rojas which can be seen here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poaVnJWdnd9ra6s I've been looking for a good opportunity to film a video of it myself ever since first trying it, it's extremely impressive. Be sure to also check out the TH10 headlamp by my sponsor ThruNite, I think you'll like it: amzn.com/B00WWO8VOE I'm constantly finding new uses for their flashlights. Their ultra bright TN36 I've mounted to a microphone stand to use as lighting for a lot of my slow motion shots, and that same setup has also made for a great camp light as I've been far away from any other power sources to film this series.

+Kepkaaa I've done it. It's clever to use the yeast to generate CO2, you've got to give the trap credit for it's ingenuity there. But in real world effectiveness there's no comparison to the trap in this video. It's the difference between capturing a dozen or so mosquitos and literally thousands. The fan trap is that effective. Dan's video linked to in the comment above really shows off the results that can be had.

Friggin genius! A few minor tweaks: - Swapping the box fan motor to a DC unit running direct from battery would increase run time per charge (inverter ≠ 100% efficient). - Igniting the rubbing alcohol upon application is recommended in order to ensure total annihilation. - For those with the proper electrical knowledge, it is quite easy to add an automated zapper function...

I got a 20" air filter, for a home ac unit, and taped it to the back of a 20" box fan. It pulls all the dust, pollen , and hair out of the air. I just turn the fan on so it circulates the air in the room. When I sweep I turn the fan on facing away from where I am sweeping so it pulls all the fine particles that don't stay in the dust pan out of the air.

Mosquitos can't fly against a 2mph wind, so a fan is almost always helpful. I'll definitely give this a try. One thing though. I have a very strong floor fan (one of those round ones) to the back of which I have a 20 x20" HEPA furnace filter. (I made a crude bent wire 'clip' but the fan suction holds it in place.) It draws air really well, so except for the filter instead of the window screen it's basically your set up. Also, we don't have as many mosquitos here in Los Angeles as in your woods, but we do have them. There isn't a single mosquito, or any other insect in that filter and I've been using the same filter for about a year. It works close to the floor. So not conclusive of anything, just another data point. Thanks for the video.

This solution looks like it would be cheaper and more effective. If used at home where there is wall power, you wouldn't have to turn it off except to clean it and the alcohol spray wouldn't be required. Mosquitos dry out and die pretty quick.

Like you said, I think its the sound more than anything that attracts the mosquitos (and other insects). I work outdoors and do automotive repair, and whenever we have our generator going, air compressor, even simple buzzing noises like spray gun or heat gun, bees, wasps, and whatever else just wont leave us alone. Bugs dont really bother me, I try to keep peace with them and they do the same back, but for camping outdoors where the mosquitoes are a huge problem during very hot and wet summers, this seems like a GREAT idea! Maybe try fixing some very bright LEDs infront of or around it, this would definitely increase the amount of creepy critters attracted into the suctions radius

If you don't bother with the screen, won't the mosquitoes get sucked into the blades and die anyway? The screen would only help if you can show that a decent amount of mosquitoes somehow shoot right through the fan with little or no damage.

Good idea, but try a car cooling fan, runs directly on 12V, and you do not need a inverter. Just a thought. Marius M

What's great is *no* poison with artificial estrogens. I've seen this elsewhere and the trap actually sucks all the moisture out of the mosquitos too. Like dehydrated fruit.

An idea for your mosquito trap. Take a 20X20X2" paper grade filter. Remove the filter paper leaving the frame and wire support to the filter. Then place the wire screen inside the filter but not touching the the wire support. Use a barrier to keep the two apart. Then take a battery operated electric mosquito swatter and wire the board to the opposing screens. Now you have an easily removable portion to your mosquito catcher that is also electrified via battery. If you want you can use a D/C power inverter to go from ac to dc for the zapper part.

Maybe the dislikes are due to commercial products having been available for years. I paid $15 for one that runs on AC or DC power about 8 years ago. Unlike this design, it points down to the ground, increasing its stability so it can't be knocked over. Has LED UV lights along with a heat and CO2 emitter to aid attraction. The mosquito is sucked through the fan and trapped in a mesh basket, which air continually runs through, dehydrating and killing them.

you could improve it like this: -put a bright lamp behind that will be visible for the insects at night and makes them fly onto it much faster -choose a net out of metal instead this one of plastic and attach an electric circle to it (can also be removed out of one of these "electric rackets"made for killing flies, dont know how theyr called in english)

I like the idea, but there's one thing I don't get. What is attracting the mosquitoes? Once they're close to the intake draft of the fan, they're toast. For sure. According to this concept, if the screen wasn't there, the bugs would go right through. But I've never seen a fan just spitting streams of mosquitoes out at me. Do you put a ham sandwich on top of the fan or something?

A couple thoughts: 1. Add a couple blue LED lights 2. A pan with a little bit of ammonia for bait. (Would that imitate a person's scent and attract mosquitoes?)

from living in the mountains for 50 years I have tried. It all and they all worked for a while. But while hiking with a walking stick and swinging it at the right speed, fast that the sound worked like a charm. So YES, the sound of a fan is the best. So I recorded the sound, at just the right speed, on my iPhone and looped it. Easy and cheap P.S. it repelled them away too.

used to keep a 3w 12v pc fan with some netting and a used sock. worked pretty well. some of the lil gits were good at evading the suction though. they cant fly downward with much power so it helps to have an upward oriented fan. worth checking lab eperiments so you dont get ripped off with comer ial traps. uv doesnt work. sound repulsion devices dont work. mosquitos work firstly on scent (pheremones) then following exhaled breath, and finally visual to locate the veins. you can use a tealight for simulated breath and warm wax mostly covered but showing a strip (fake vein) tricks them into a waxy doom. gotta play them on their abilities.

I have seen something similar in stores , a fine mesh bag that attaches to the exhaust side of the fan. They get sucked through the fan and into the bag where they get crushed and dehydrated by the airflow.
