I actually use the hot tea cold water method. What I do is make a cup of hot tea and a glass of cold water. This works of the premise of expansion and contraction. I first drink the hot liquid to loosen up the phlegm, I cough a couple times then I quickly drink the cold water and cough again. I notice that after repeating this several times I start to remove large masses of phlegm. I continue this until it’s easier to breath. I have chronic bronchitis and this tends to work for me. Plus, like he said, I try to drink lots of water. I hope this helps.

I have had a big problem with this thing, for years, and found something that helped. I realized I was a mouth breather That is, I wasn't using my nose to breathe, I was doing almost all my breathing through my mouth. Breathing through the nose is natural, and will cause the sinuses to drain naturally. Breathing through the mouth effectively short-circuits the natural respiratory process of sinus draining and the result is that mucus backs up in the throat. If you have this annoying mucus in the throat problem, try shutting your lips together and forcing yourself to breathe steadily and slowly through your nose 25x You may find what I found: First, that you were a mouth breather without being aware of it. Second, with even a short time of practicing just breathing through your nose, you'll feel your sinuses naturally clearing themselves When a build-up of mucus occurs you can simply swallow what's there without having to strain to clear your throat. In any case, the problem will be far less than it was. Final note: I've been to the doctors about the problem (twice) and have tried all kinds of remedies for a problem that was as chronic as most people in this form. I'm not claiming to be an expert or to have a solution for everyone, but I"m just saying what worked for me. In any case, I'm not one of these people who typically haunt forums like this who have no personal experience with the specific health problem but who give out free advice.
@IROCKSF4152 жыл бұрын
Do you always breath through your nose now? I recently found out I wasn't mouth breather too, and I purchased a chin strap that goes around my head to keep my mouth closed. I decided to try and do it myself instead of asking my dr. I have noticed a significant difference in my breathing. I haven't used the strap in a couple days, and here I am.

I find that having your back arched and your head tilted back really helps with the deep cough. I was doing these intuitively when I was sick recently, and one time I coughed into my shirt and I coughed up this big trail of mucus that pretty much made a trail down the inside of the shirt. I had to go to the bathroom to wash the inside of the shirt and then change shirts. Very helpful to be able to engage the diaphragm so effectively.
@c.marmion84303 жыл бұрын
I've just tried your suggestion of leaning backwards (I did it whilst sitting down) and tilting my head backwards, and yes it really does help with the deep cough technique mentioned in the video, as the diaphragm automatically forces the air back out of the mouth from that position. Thanks for sharing!

Finally some really helpful suggestions to a frustrating situation. I’ve been dealing with bronchitis, phlegm and mucus for maybe a month and a half. Along with all the attributing symptoms, draining my energy beyond belief. I’ve completed a course of antibiotics and still need the benefits of albuterol- 2 puffs every 4-6 hours. There are times the coughing is so bad I can hardly catch my breath. My very helpful sons either remind me to have the inhaler close by or just get it for me when I can’t. Even though I do have a medical background I found the video very incite full by reviewing the tips stated. Never hurts to go to the basics. I look forward to the rest of the series. Furthermore, having so enjoyed this I will look further on in subjects available. Hip hip hurrah for the presentation. Thank you so very appreciated you

Mum experienced that for a long time due to bronchiectasis and COPD, but, one day, the pleghm just suddenly stopped. Her pulmonologist stated that acetylcysteine is safe to take so long as the phlegm is bothersome. She used it as needed (esp. the effervescent tab: 1x or 2x a day). Unfortunately, she developed other lung ailments which are equally serious. But fortunately, they are managed satisfactorily. I wish you well.

Concerning the deep-coughing and huff techniques, taking advantage of gravity also aids in expulsion of phlegm and mucous. Using either a bed or floor (the former is obviously more comfortable), assume the _kowtow_ position whilst pointing your butt as high as you can. Hold this position for a minute or two, then deep-cough/huff as needed.

When I was a kid, my doctor told me to do the following. Lay on bad on my stomach with only the lower part of my body, while I let my abdomen fall down over the edge, with my head near the floor, to make my upper body almost upside down. And then cough. This way, gravity helps me. It pulls the mucus down and it's easier to get it out. It worked great. Further more, I actually had an extreme case of lung inflammation, so my whole lungs were full of mucus. So the doctor instructed my dad to make rapid hits on the back part of my ribs with the tips of his fingers, all over. This makes "shockwaves / vibrations" that makes the mucus loosen up and start rolling down. Of course, in this case rolling down actually means rolling up my lungs, because I am upside down on my bed as I described earlier. And yes, all this looked ridiculous, but it worked! I'm pretty sure I was taking medicine too. You want to do every single thing in the book. If you just wait for it to pass, it will take fifty forevers.

Bend over, let your arms dangle, then as you rise up take in a deep breath (count of 4) & do your arms as if you’re diving into water. Hold that breath about 4 seconds, and blow out as you lower your arms (count of 4). Repeat 4 times or whatever feels good, but do it slowly. You don’t want to make yourself dizzy 🥴 I also do this in the middle of the day if I start feeling like I want a nap, and it works every time. Let me know if it works for you 👍

One for me one for my brother. Anyway, I'm very skeptical by nature, never felt any benefits from vitamin tablets etc. But I gave it a go. My breathing improved dramatically within 2 days...I could breathe unimpeded, fully in which just felt fantastic. Felt like a light bulb switched on in my brain . Brain fog gone, felt sharp. My mother has just been diagnosed with emphysema so I'm going to try her on it too. Also as I can now breathe in fully I do the Wim Hoff breathing technique which again is a daily thing I won't ever forget to do. Literally changed my life. I was resigned to the fact that I was going to live in a struggle but there are things you can do that will change everything. I hope even if just one person tries it and gets the same results as with me I will be happy. All the best to you all.

As I aged throughput the years, I was diagnosed with asthma at 38 years old. I was quite fit and healthy and always maintained my fitness levels until my asthma worsened. I was also a smoker, I haven’t smoked for 11 months now. Because I didn’t listen to my body, my chest builds up with phlegm whenever I do physical exercises and it’s so annoying. Don’t smoke people, I wish I never did.
Before vaping I had no phlegm problems only the yearly pollen would give be a bunged up head. One month of vaping and shortly after I stopped, my throat constantly feels like I've got a hairball lodged at the back of it and no matter how much I try to hack it up it will not shift it. I'm constantly bringing up clear phlegm, for months now. But this Respiratory Therapy offers useful techniques but the causes need to be addressed if only one could bother, given that there are alot of external pollutants and allergens one has to struggle with. Detoxing constantly has become a necessary task and looking after your immune system is the biggest and important factor to your well being. Motivation is the key and its hard to even go there with this Covid19 shananagins. But one must overcome and get back some control of the things that we have the capacity to do and all else is out of our hands so to speak. Oh..... I think I'm trying to convince myself here, lol.

A few years ago I had pertussis (whooping cough) which formed a layer of dense, dryish mucus in my bronchial tubes. The effect was a continual tickle that coughing would not budge. Medication didn't work either. So..... bought whiskey, gargled and breathed in the fumes. Instant cough. Gargled again and breathed fumes. Coughed again and felt the mucus move. Repeated a few more times and eventually spat up a lump like silicon. I have used this process with other chest infections with good results so it could be one solution for Covid 19 if used early enough. Alcohol kills germs ! (and puts you in a better mood too)

As a presumed result from a tetanus shot in 2008(?) my mucus became very thick, which became a serious threat when I became ill with the flue later. Luckily I realized a need to drain my lungs by gravity while being bed ridden. So I put a sheet of plywood under my mattress and raised the bottom about 30 inches in order to find needed relief. The steep slope made it difficult to maintain position though (from sliding down) especially when sleeping. But the relief it provided was a godsend, not only from the draining of my lungs of course, but also the constant engorged blood supply to my brain was enormously welcome. I used this device as needed until I recovered. And though my mucus remains unusually sticky and thick to date for some reason, I'm grateful to know how to drain my lungs from the stuff in an emergency if need be.

The crazy thing is, as soon as i have bad diet, things get bad bad with my breathing. When I have a good diet I quickly get better... No dairy, 2L of water daily, proper gut health (Probiotics, gluten free oats daily, etc). This worked wonderfully! Organic ginger-turmeric tea (from Trader Joes) with manuka honey with a high UMF number (or any raw unfiltered honey) with 1 or 2 extra ginger chews candy (which dissolves if water is hot enough). I simply left my tea bag in and wow! It was so powerful, I could visibly feel my nose and chest clear up with each sip! Ginger itself is an anti-inflammatory, good for fighting viruses and bacteria, improves immunity, among many other health benefits. Dr. Axe has a good article on it. For an extra health kicker, you can add cayenne pepper. Use with caution as there could be risks or side effects.

Do anyone still doubt natural herbs? I've seen the great importance of natural herbs and the wonderful work they have done in people's lives. I wonder why people still spend their money on surgery, injections and drugs each time they are sick. Natural herbs can cure all kinds of illness including herpes, diabetics, asthma, Cancer, hepatitis, etc. I've seen it with my own eyes. I was cured of Irritable bowel syndrome and my Sister and her Husband were cured of herpes by dr Osemuahu who uses natural herbs to cure different kind of illness. Even Dr. Osemuahu proved to the whole world that natural herbs can cure all diseases and he cured countless of people using natural herbs. I know is hard to believe but am a living testimony. At the first sign of sore throat/runny nose I go to a drug store and buy Hydrasense or a similar saline product. It's sterilized saline (sea) water in a container under non-aerosol pressure. I have found that if I start using this ASAP, it keeps the infection from turning into bronchitis, which is caused by postnasal drip. I'm asthmatic, and before I started doing this it was not unusual for me to have bronchitis for 3-4 weeks after having a sore throat/runny nose for 3-4 days. Hope this helps someone. Please don't use this to treat a child without consulting a doctor.
