How to Get Rid of Vertical Lines Across Page on Prints Canon HP Brother Epson Inkjet Printers

If your prints and copies have a blank vertical line, the problem most likely is with dirty timing strip. It is sometimes hard to get to a timing strip, but with few tricks it is not hard afterall. Check out this video for a better explanation and easy tip.

This fix will apply to majority of inkjet printers from various brands. Here are some of applicable printer series: HP Officejet, HP Envy, HP Photosmart, HP Officejet Pro, Canon Pixma, Canon Maxify, Canon Bubblejet, Epson Workforce, Epson WF, Epson Stylus, Epson Stylus Photo, Epson Expresion, Epson XP, Brother MFC, Brother Inkjet, HP Inkjet, Epson Inkjet printer.

Wow! This saved us money (we don't have) to buy a new printer. After clicking maintenance buttons on the Canon Pixma MX340 to clean, I did what you said, got in there easily with a Q tip to clean a spot I saw, and ended up cleaning the whole strip because it was so much fun! Then printed a CLEAN copy, no blank vertical lines! I am so grateful you shared this video online! :)

Thank you! This worked with getting rid of a thin blank/white line that kept showing up in the same exact area of our prints. My printer is an Epson XP-440. I looked at the clear timing strip and there was some type of clear oily looking smudge in the exact area where the line kept showing up on our prints. I used a q-tip/cotton swap and water to wipe it gently away. Before this, I would have to print on the highest/maximum print quality to make it less visible and I had wasted a lot of ink from doing so many print cleanings. I have had this problem for months. I often have to print on inkjet transfer paper to print designs for t-shirts, but they are usually small designs so I would just print on the other side of the paper, but this time I had a client's design that used the whole page. I thought I would have to get a new Epson printer to complete this t-shirt job.Thank you so much!

OH... MY... *insert favorite cuss word here... I've used them all during this problem* GOODNESS!!!!!! I have been trying to fix this damn problem for like a month! Numerous nozzle cleanings and alignments, asking geek squad, asking other tech savvy friends and YOU SAVED ME!!!! I was about to throw the whole damn printer out and just get a new one, which pissed me off because I haven't even had this printer for a year! You are amazing! Thank you for the clear description! I recently converted an Epson ET-2760 (used) to sublimation ink, using some basic info I got about ETs from KZbin videos (LOL). And while it worked, I dripped a little ink on the timing strip. Following your instructions, I found it immediately, cleaned it, and got a perfect print! Yay for DIY!

Tried this on my Canon MG5750, used cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol, dried with kitchen roll paper. Worked perfectly, thanks, I've been struggling with this for about 4 months!

Great tip. Fixed vertical line on a Cannon MG3650. Once you pointed out it could be the timing strip it was easy to spot the bit of dirt causing the problem. Clean with a QTip and tiny amount of window cleaner.. cleared the vertical line on very next print.

I had horizontal lines going across my pages, I used alcohol on kitchen roll to clean (very hard to get to the clear strip on a hp envy, but I managed) Instant results, pages print perfectly now. Thanks so much!

Great video. I have Canon Inkjet printer which had vertical lines to the right of the page. I tried this method and have no more lines! I thank you so very much for sharing this method. The only difference is that I used an earbud taped to a chop stick.

WOW WOW WOW! google verticle line on inkjet printer page and found this. i had been having problems and much frustation b4 i did that trying to align etc. This was the answer and only took a minute. Worked a treat on my Canon G3501 printer! Luckily the timing strip is easy to get to on my model when the inspection cover is lifted . I just used cotton buds with surgical spirit! Top Banana :-)

This is the best solution among those that you need to disassemble the printer and have a syringe that I feel like will cause me more error coz I'm not sure I'll be able to do all that properly and remember to fix it all back properly. Thank you!

This saved me. thank you so much. At first I had a stuck paper, so I fixed that, then it kept smudging so I tried to do deep clean and ended up filling up my ink waste sponge thing so replaced that and it still didn't work. I'm so happy I found this video T_T

hahahha been worried for a night because my printer have a problem with the 'white' linee. so i tried this method and wipe the film using cotton swabs and it works! i also notice there's a white grease on my film exactly where the faulty lines occur so i wipe on that spot. thankyou for the method!

Thank you very much! Got a new Canon iP8750 which had a timing issue. It showed colored, vertical lines in the middle, the cleaning test looked just like your faulty ones and the prints were blurry. Each streak moved a bit to the right. With a bit of cleaning following your tips the prints are now beautiful. Thanks again

Great. Cleaned the strip and this worked for me.. Thanks a lot.. . But now I have a problem where the print head assy keeps hitting the ribs of the bottom plate while moving to and fro and leaves a black smears/smudges along the length of the paper aligning exactly with the ribs of the bottom plate... Unable to figure our/resolve this problem..

Hi. I'm glad you got one problem out of the way. Seems to me that when you were cleaning the strip, you may have misplaced something that the bottom like a foam padding. Use flashlight to inspect he inside of the printer and see if anything is out of place.

I have a Canon Pixma MX420 printer. It is having horizontal lines/streaks across my documents whenever I print something. Would it be related to what you are doing in the video. I've put in two new cartridges black and color in them. The horizontal lines are still showing. I also did all the cleaning from settings of the printer. It didn't fix it. So frustrating. Please help on what to do.

This video is not the solution to your problem. You need to manually clean a cartridge most likely. See this video: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2LGfK1nid15fas You should instantly see printing improvement after you do that. That us for horizontal lines.

I did this and found 3 black dots on the strip. Swabbed it and removed those black dots but it left transparent dots instead. Praying that the print will be normal at last, and I found out that it didn't work. It made me conclude that I need to buy a new strip. 😅
