My dad was a commercial fisherman and he always sharpened his knife in a circle motion. That's how i learned. People look at me like I'm crazy, but it works so well. If you've never tried it, you should.

thanks for the video I will look into the 3 sided jewel. I have been using the Stay Sharp C guide with an 800 grit half round jewel that follows the curve a little, then with a ceramic rod. It's not this level yet.

I was bare tuning some wooden arrows I had and I was wanting to use my 190 grain glue on cutthroat broadheads but the spine was too still with my Osage orange bow 48lbs@ 28”. I discovered that I could use my lead tape I use on my golf clubs. Amazon sells high density 1/2” lead tape. One piece just wrapped around the shaft, just behind the broadhead adds about 50 grains. You can really tune an arrow quick using that lead tape to figure what you need. That lead tape is about 13.00 for a roll and you can add more or take some off to really dial in your arrows. Just thought I would share this.

Hi Jeff, great video!! have a question? You said when you start with new simon's broad heads use the course side and get a burr then flip it to fine side and remove the burr then do you do the same on that slide with course side and get a burr again then start the circle motion? Just ordered a juel stick sharpener and tree shark's. Thanks for your video's and help.
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 Жыл бұрын
You can actually do the circular motion starting on the coarse side

So Jeff been watching your videos on the shark broadheads.. AWESOME stuff.. Question is what would you recommend on elk with a simmons broadhead out of a 48 to 50 lbs 64'' Fred Asbell bighorn bow. Back in the day killed alot of elk here in Oregon with my Keppert 68 lbs bow and Zwickey Eskimo broadheads killed elk good but no blood trail or very little but had lots of penetration and shot lights out .... But trailing job was the down side. Thanks for any help with the simmons heads.

I prefer the Swamp Sharks for both penetration and blood trail!

Hi Jeff: Are you familiar with the Simmons Mako 125 grain? I’ve been looking for a good fixed blade with a large cut and solid bleeders and that head really seems to fit the bill! I shoot a compound with 125 grain head, 490 grains total at 263 feet per second. I would never aim for the shoulder but if I would end up hitting the shoulder in your opinion how would the Mako handle it on average? Do you think the concave shape will cause a larger cut then it’s 1 1/4” width? Any thoughts would be appreciated! God Bless!

Hey Jeff. I’m going to try some Sharks this year. I shoot a 50#@26” ASL. Do you think I could get good penetration on deer with a TreeShark with my short draw? My total arrow weight is 650gr and bare shaft flys perfect at 30 yards. Thanks

For a two blade do you stick with a 1.5 inch wide Broadhead? I would guess a wide head leaves better blood trials. To wide of a head I bet you get poor arrow flight?
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 Жыл бұрын
It’s true that the arrow has to be tuned to fly a wing on the front so to speak in other words a wide two blade will steer the arrow if it’s not tuned but I personally like at least 11/8” or more width on any two blade head.

It’s like any broadhead, the arrow has to be tuned and it will fly any head but if not then the broadheads will magnify the problem 👍🏻

The easiest and most effective way to sharpen a Simmons head is the same way Mr. Jerry Simmons himself did it...with his Simmons handheld sharpener. I think its called Accusharp now.
