I totally understand your idea about avoiding the granulation aspect of watercolor! Furthermore I avoided all colors that were semi opaque as well! Over the years I’ve come to understand that even the most opaque watercolor can be used effectively and to great advantage! This was a lovely painting, and I enjoyed the use of just three colors! My first watercolor set had a couple of granulating paints and I thought those were the inferior paints that had separated. Later when I learned about granulation and using it it add texture, I appreciated those paints that I had set aside. I still have half a tube of this lovely cobalt green deep from that set that that I use as a secret weapon for interesting mossy textures. Also I want to say that your painting is beautiful and I'm glad you're sharing your appreciation for granulation and ultramarine blue.

Wonderful! I embraced granulation immediately and have sought it out. I love it! But you’re right… it’s a parlor trick. Like you say, you’re along for the ride. But you do learn to control it a bit, and bring it out for a big effect. Your drawing skills are lovely.

Concrete and nice explanation, thanks. I discovered* granulated paints a couple of weeks ago just as you say because the media is bombarding with the "classic" watercolor style. The best decision ever. It's so fun to paint with them. Some come pre-mixed and you get two or more colors in one brushstroke. Great videos!

I love Mission Gold paints. They have the least shift from wet to dry. Almost every painting I make using them turn out better than anticipated. They along with Daniel Smith are my absolute favorites.
