You explained it really well. This seems much more intuitive than particle systems where you have to jump out of particle systems and go over to texture for mapping and then back to particle. This is way cleaner and seems more controllable. Hope you keep going with this series.

I am really loving geometry nodes especially since render times for me have been cut in half compared to particle systems. (I rendered an image using just particles took 6 minutes, swapped the particles out for geonodes and it only took 2.5 minutes)

Hopefully Node Wrangler will get updated with a key shortcut for the basic nodes for a point distribution. I've watched several videos where guys do the point distribution example and in each case they create the node tree by hand instead of using a shortcut.

i cannot WAIT until blender exposes ALL creation functions, all modifiers, all objects and relationships, as nodes where all inputs and outputs can all be visually programmed etc... once particles really get updated, some of the 2.49 functionality is returned, and flip fluids/manta fluids and the fracture build are integrated... then we are looking at a package that has a great modeling and sculpting ability, character animation, compositing etc... all within a mini-houdini and ICE/bifrost functionality! oh im so excited. mini houdini open source honest briliantness?! we dont deserve this

Great video! Brilliantly explained. With geometry nodes, is there a way to avoid collisions? Andrew's classic doughnut tutorial is a good example, i.e. ensuring all the sprinkles don't intersect.
@erik....
@erik.... 3 жыл бұрын
If you use "poisson disk"-method in Point Distribute you can enter a minimum distance between points, but of course it only works if you set it to the diameter of your biggest object in your distributed collection

Very cool, I foresee myself playing with this all weekend. When you show the sphere attached to the suzanne it is in the same spot every time. Is it possible to somehow randomize the seed values per instance of an object? I'm thinking things like procedurally generated trees or flowers or whatever assembled from parts. Just layering geometry nodemaps to create a procedural forest where no two plants are exactly alike?

I'm curious if you could make an infinite particle loop if you used the monkey head as a reference object on the sphere. Would it reference just the monkey head or will it bring the sphere that was on the monkey head with it, and if it did would it be stuck in a constant loop of generating particles on top of particles until it crashed blender?

Is there a way to pick objects in the collection in different proportions like the "use count" option in particle systems?

How are you able to enter edit mode and still see the geometry? When I enter edit mode, it “mutes/hides” any modifier until I go back to object mode. ~ 11:00.

Interesting, once a distribution node is added with a vertex group set as its density, the added geometry no longer appears in edit mode. I wonder if thats meant to be like that, or they haven’t thought about that process tree.

Hey Trev, Yes the nodes got renamed in newer versions of blender. You can check this video for the updated nodes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/namrdGR_hritmZI hope that helps!

The video is geat, but, every thing is changed since V3.0, so they Renamed and delete/ add lot of nodes. Ex: Point distribute = deleted. And changed with: Instances to points Point Instance = deleted also, and changed with: Instance on Points You must add ''Object info node'' if you use "Point Instance". -------------------------- So it will be really appreciate if you do an update of this tutorial. Thank you Sir.

Is the use of geometry nodes only for point scattering? I mean a lot of tutorials about this node but everything is just the same use

As it develops further, there will be more uses. I think right now it's pretty limited.

Hi, great tutorial. However why I apply this my objects become very bigs eventhough the original size was small, do you know where it might've gone wrong? thank you.

so this is essentially the partical editor but with nodes Most stuff could already be done with the particle editor , no ? Edit: answer @ 04:00 , multipl levels deep instead of just one level in the particle editor
