When you mentioned how sometimes your bathrooms haven’t been cleaned in weeks, I instantly felt less broken. I have been beating myself up for that for so long, that I don’t clean them minimum once a week. Thank you so much for that honesty. This whole video is extremely helpful, and realizing I’m not alone in having trouble doing that is a huge relief. I so appreciate your content.

Omg I'm so glad. Yeah, we clean them like once a month? I want it to be more often, but there are other more important things I'm always working on, lol. Also cleaning sucks

I had no idea that demand avoidance was a real thing and it explains so much. And I can relate to your anger because it enrages me so much that I HAVE to do something. That will shut me down quicker than anything. Thank you so much for making these videos. I see that it's not just me! And I don't feel so strange and alone. I agree with you that you do something "rewarding (listening to a podcast cast" during a task that needs to be done but you don't want to do it (cleaning the bathroom.) I'm lessons planning at this very moment I'm listening to you pod cast. On of my presentation curriculums is falling apart from the spiral bound pages and I'm repairing every page by putting a reinforced tape on every page all 365 of them!! So my reward was listening to you very practical solutions. Thank you.

I didnt see the first 2 parts, but this showed up a few minutes ago, so i watched it. I think demand avoidance plays a bigger part for me. Im gunna start lowering expectations for myself. I think thats another issue with me not finishing tasks. Thank you so much for this 🤗 now im gunna watch the other two parts. And grab a ticket! Cause i think im gunna need that 3 day training 😆💚

Oh my goodness that bit about rewards.... My therapist and I had this whole thing about rewards and delayed gratification, and I couldn't explain to her why that wouldn't work for me. I'm literally going to show her this video today 😂

I don't have ADHD but I do have dyslexia but I relate to your solution of creating a step by step procedure to completing a task. I'm also a teacher that was trained in teaching Direct Instruction (Scripted programs) in teaching English and Reading. I have taught many students with autism, Asperger's Syndrome, students with dyslexia. I know very well the value of following a schedule and compling a series of tasks with intentional rewards and realistic expectations built into the system. I agree with you with direct experience with myself and my students at the success of this discussion. Thank for posting this video.

Im just the opposite to you in avoiding being organized. I have dyslexia and i forget (very often) were i put stuff. For me, being (obsessively) organized is a survival of avoiding complicate frustration. If i working on a project; finding a screw driver, for example, should take max 5 seconds to find not 3 hours! For me being ulta organized (labling boxes that are put on shelves with relatec items) and a clean work shed; is the only way to begin a project.

I love this series! Sorry in advance...my DMN could not unhear. "It needs done." is a phrasing I've never heard before. Please can u tell me where you're from. I'm guessing it's a regionalism. I love it. Going to be using it on myself in your kind voice 😅. It needs done!

Great video! Thanks for the tips, I very much recognize myself here. Music while cleaning and interesting podcasts while exercising have been certainly things I've done and they make those things so much more enjoyable. One thing I do to help finish tasks is that I don't set out to finish a task. I set out to work just a little bit on something. What often happens is that my autistic inertia kicks in and I'll work on the task much more than I planned and get stuff done. Doing a task sloppily, however, does usually not work for me, as I am a perfectionist, and it will haunt me for the rest of my life. Well not quite, and of course, I have to learn to not be such a perfectionist (where of course, perfectionism helps, because perfectionism is an imperfection itself, so I have to fix that obviously). I've not seen too many of your videos yet, but you present the topics very well! I like the pace and just the right amount of context you have.

I'm assuming that demand avoidance is the rather powerful voice/reaction in me that says (and feels) DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO - including to myself. But correct me if I'm wrong. So about the asking for help category - I don't have a virtual assistant nor a partner, but with some of my tasks I have found ways to ask future-me to help, as long as I'm specific and don't just kick everything down the lane for future-me to deal with. For instance - I'm notoriously better able to focus in the mornings. I frequently tell myself (and frequently set an alarm) to revisit a problem the following morning when more of my marbles are cooperating. For me, trying to do certain things after 5 pm isn't productive and just leads to ruminating in unhelpful ways. Thank you so much - recently discovered your channel and it really does capture my own curiosity about how my mind goes about its stuff...

Something the "simple" solution is the best and most effective way to accomplish the goal. I agree. I tent to over think everything, even the simplest tasks. My mind goes through multiple ways to approach a problem. I tent to think in logical sequences and I picture every step and procedure. Yes I agree it is overwhelming and I will try your approach of only thinking in 5 steps increments then accomplishing those before going to the next. Thank you for posting real strategies. I have been searching for a instructional video like yours for a long time. Most nuerodiverent videos or information about nuerodiverent goes through a litany of "problems" or 'disabilities" never getting around to suggesting solutions for dealing with the "problems." I know the "problems" I live it 24/7.
