By far their best. Its the only album they did where I like every song on an album. The use of synthesizers was done perfectly and the melodies to songwriting to the whole epic feel is just incredible. Its actually my personal favorite album of all time. There is no album I listen to more then somewhere in time. These guys were on point as a band with this album. Epic shit lol

I have this amp. I've had it since '89?? It was a fun amp to take to your buddies house with your guitar since it is a lunch box combo. Plus I've plug it into a 4x12 and didn't sound bad as Maiden clearly showed. It's been stored in my garage for at least 23 years. time to dust it off, plug in and see if it still works.

@@EugeValovirta230V one little suggestion would be to use two delays instead of just one the first one with a very short delay, and the second one would be the one indicated in the video, it is jus a subtle difference but gets so much closer to the Somewhere in Time sound!

Great tone and playing! They did indeed use the Gallien Krueger 250ML on both Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. I have read that they actually mic'd up the two 6.5" speakers in the combo but that seems quite hard to believe. Either way, killer albums and tone. Great job recreating it! Also, seeing that JCM800ZW really makes me miss mine, should have never sold it.

@@EugeValovirta230V my friend let me ask you. I’ve been checking out your Sykes video. About 5 years ago I attempted Still of the night. Certain parts seemed tricky. Any chance of a video explanation on that song. I’m not good on theory. I play by ear mostly. It’s one of the best riffs ever though.

I love this tutorial Euge! Somewhere In Time is my favorite Iron Maiden album without a shadow of a doubt! The tone is also one of my absolute favorites! So thank you for this! It's a shame they stopped making the Gallien Kruger 250ML and 250RL's though.. When I'm able to recreate this tone I'll grab a Marshall JCM800 2203 and a Marshall 1960B 4x12 Cabinet (Same cabinet Adrian Smith uses).. As for effect pedals I'll use the Boss Super Overdrive SD-1 and the Boss Chorus Ensemble CE-5 along with a Boss RV-6 Reverb.. But I want your opinion on a couple of things.. What do you suggest I use for the Micropitch sound since I prefer using effect pedals? Would a Boss PS6 Harmonist do the job? And last but not least.. Do you recommend using either a Boss DD-3 or Boss DD-7 Digital Delay for the sound as mentioned? Cheers Euge!

Thanks! Glad to hear that man! You have a pretty cool rig I must say 😎👌. I’m not 100% sure about the BOSS Micropitch but I think it should do the job. The new Micropitch pedal from Eventide will surely do it: www.eventideaudio.com/products/stompboxes/pitch-delay-pedal/micropitch-delay I have both DD-3 & DD-7 and they both sound the same to me but DD-7 has just more different delays. I use the basic digital delay - mode always anyways on both so they both work 👌.

@@EugeValovirta230V Awesome! Thank you so much man I'll definitely check those out! From what I gather you'd be able to get close to Adrian Smith's signature sound by using the following: 1. Adrian Smith Jackson San Dimas Dinky Signature 2. Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer 3. Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble 4. Boss RV-6 Reverb 5. Marshall JCM800 2203 6. Marshall 1960B 4x12 Cabinet But again thanks so much Euge! I'll definitely keep those in mind!

I believe the missing "last mile" of tone here is the fact that Smith and Murray used Roland guitar synths to track the album. That being said, this is the damn closest I have seen to getting there through more traditional/available means. Great job Euge, I'm gonna pick up an extra chorus pedal and try to get close to what you've got!

Once again, thank you for a cool video, Euge. Fantastic!! I love this "How to" series of videos your doing and it shows the music fan in you. It's funny in a way because you break down songs, parts, melodies, in an intellectual way like I enjoy doing. I'm nerdy like that. And you do it in a fun way that shows you enjoy this, too.
