This series is golden. Akai should make it part of the documentation along with Tube Digga's material.

@@TheCratesMotel well deserved mate , I'm very new to the tech side of music production , having spent most of my life playing in rock bands, recently got an MPC one to make music on and even though the kind of stuff I'm making isn't what MPC's are typically used for your videos have been an absolutely godsend in getting my head around it all. Far far better than all the others I've waded through. Credit where credits due mate , superb content and much appreciated 👍

I really appreciate your videos mate. Your explanations are fantastic. I have no production or music background except for DJing the last 10 years or so. I purchased the MPC One about 10months ago to mess around with and have watched other KZbinrs (the usual ones that everyone already knows) and have learnt a lot from them, but the way you circle back and compare things to traditional forms of production and DAWs and mixing down etc and the depth that you explain everything is really inspiring. I really feel like Im learning not just the Mpc One but also important production techniques. Your experience shows in the way you transmit this information. Anyway just wanted to say thanks and hope you keep these videos coming as I will be watching them multiple times. cheers.

Amazing explanation of ducking and possibilities on use case scenarios for different sound sources within a beat to achieve a gated tremelo kinda effect to apply to samples! 😮 I’m already thinking of the possibilities to apply to future tracks! Once again thanks for the easiest ways of understanding explanations the values, especially the more creative ways of using these effects to achieve some other useful results! 10/10 ❤

These are great video tutorials Conan. Been following for a week or so, and I’ve already used some of the many techniques that you have provided. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on routing feature and assigning effects to a particular sound within a program or a track. I understand that you could do it within the main mix, for me I often make a rod for my back when I start delving into other areas and I forget what I’ve done. Appreciated, Peace.

@@TheCratesMotel This is also where the MPC is pretty weak, that submix thing. I wish we had proper bussing or at least a way to send bus to another one.

Air-Pumper is my go-to plugin for that 4onthefloor pumping sound. Mother Ducker is pretty good, but i prefer not eating up a slot for the input plugin if i don't have to.
@TheCratesMotel
@TheCratesMotel Жыл бұрын
Yes Air Pumper is a good quick solution if you just want the pumping effect. But Mother Ducker has so many more uses than just the four on the floor pumping most people use it for.

17:12 so my takeaway here is that the motherducker is listening for the control signal pre-fader? Which I why you can control the ducking even if the level is turned all the way down.
@TheCratesMotel
@TheCratesMotel Жыл бұрын
Correct 👍🏻. It’s really handy that you don’t even need to hear the key signal. It’s funny because this kind of feature has been available in DAWs for years, but having it in the MPC is great and there’s so much that can be done with it with a bit of imagination.

There is some advice out there, that ducking/sidechain settings should generally be mirrored on all tracks that reference the same source, specifically the attack and release, for consistency. Do you subscribe to that?
@TheCratesMotel
@TheCratesMotel Жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you for watching. There are definitely no rules, however, generally speaking, it is a good idea to mirror on all tracks. I tend to send all the tracks I want to duck/sidechain to a Buss and then apply ducking to that one buss. That way it is a lot easier to have consistency and it sounds more glued. It also means you only have to open one plugin instead of multiple plugins on each track. This does however mean you don't have as much control over the amount of ducking on each individual track of course. Ultimately what I would probably do is start with sending them all to a single buss, duck them, and then make up my mind if I need to isolate any particular track and work on the attack, release, ratio and threshold for that track individually. And of course, as I always say, never do anything by default as it is different every time. Cheers.
