By the way, I use automation line that activates De-Esser/Dynamic EQ/Compressor ONLY where the sibilance appears. And I use the same INVERTED automation line as a reverb send in order to send vocal without sibilances to the reverb channel. It takes some time, but the result is very clean.

At first I thougt you’re missing the fact that many de-essers have a very targeted sidechain filters, but as you pointed out Pro-MB has it too. Damn! might be time to take de-esser out of my chain! Some de-essers offer more intelligent sibilant detection though. Eiosis for example. It basically reacts to high frequencies only when there are no low frequencies (body). That can’t be replicated with pro-MB.

Just what I was looking for. I don't like the sound of most de-esser plugins. They are too aggressive and make the ss's sound artificial. Thanks for another inspiring video.

At 4:59 what you can also do if your dser isn't catching the harsh s or t sounds is to duplicate your vocal track, or send your vocal to a "send" or "aux" channel and purposely accentuate those harsh frequency zones by boosting them with an eq and sidechain your real vocal to that duplicated track. Just make sure you turn that channel into a "ghost channel" so no audio is coming out of it. You're just using it to trigger your dser.

@y.a.267 yeah it can if overdone. I only do this when the dser or multiband compressor/dynamic eq isn't reacting the way i want it to. It's also a good way to trigger soothe2 the way you want it to be triggered.

Nothing wrong at all. However, sibilance is really quiet but sounds loud to our ears. So any compression you do will also increase the sibilance. So you may end up needing to either do more automation or add something like a desser or multiband comp after the compression in the chain.

@@oldtimer666 Soothe2 is absolutely the shit. Best de-esser, I've tried several. Also the way it can turn harsh synths into pleasing ones is unmatched. Same for smoothing highhats etc. And it just works even if the notes played are all over the octaves without manually setting and automating a ton of EQ-cuts. Getting it on black friday is def worth it. Only downside is the Ilok.

I like your channel and your producing skills are really incredible. Thanx a lot. But I dont think that dresser are a ripp off. And many famous mixer still use them. Not just because they are used to it. IMO sometime classic "Wideband" de-esser sounds better and more natural then a multi band de-esser. On the waves you can swich to wideband. I often have the feeling that band separated de-esing sounds a little bit strange. But anyway, using a Multiband Comp like the MB-Pro is a good choice for many cases.

Never said that you little mushroom head. What you do need to do should be very little if it’s recorded right. A good recording chain can get your vocals sitting pretty good to begin with. Go back to mamas basement with this guy and practice your reach around technique.

@@2cthetruthbruh you’re saying a good recording doesn’t need much yeah that’s true. But that’s only true if everything else is given already like a professional microphone, pre amps etc and much more. If I just use a beginner mic and no acoustics etc there can be the best singer on the world it won’t change much cause I have to mix a lot to get a good sound. Yeah if you have good equipment a well placed mic and good acoustics AAAND a good singer you don’t need much mixing but how many people have that ? Not that much people right ?

Neither is "better" or "worse". It's just down to both personal preference and time efficiency. I use multiband compression on vocals pretty much all of the time. So it's much more efficient to just use the same multiband compressor for additional dessing since I'll already have that multiband comp anyway.
@rumariomusic
