Yesterday i bought a 2020 model 3 peformance for $38.8k. Clean car fax, 47k miles, still on warranty, black, carbon fiber spoiler, upgraded pedals and brakes, along with the 20inches with red calibers. In this market (2023 April) it was the best deal online. They had stock photos on the online listing and i had to ask twice for photos and when i saw the pictures, i knew it was a deal (at least in the current market).

That’s the one thing that’s a pain when buying from somewhere other than Tesla. They are definitely not good about knowing or showing the trim levels whether it’s fsd or autopilot.

Buying a used Tesla is much more complicated vs most any other car; as you eluded to. Overall well done. I’d have to go back and review again. But I don’t think warranty on used vs new was discussed. There was also one used loaded example that was compared against new on the website; however you compared the new model without the options added (ie Boost) so it wasn’t really Apples to Apples. Things like asking if service records were available is important. Mileage on car. Difference between bumper to bumper warranty vs battery / motor warranty differences. As a primer in the time provided well done; I would have tweaked / added some things.

Just purchased my 2022 M3 LR 19k miles for 39K and couldn’t be happier. It was a rental car so I did have to have a $500 paint correction + ceramic coat to take out all the scratches and imperfections from the paint. No added features other then Autopilot but I couldn’t be happier with it. Especially coming from a 2022 Silverado 1500 😅

Just checked. Additional Info shows FSD computer, which was upgraded last summer for free as we bought FSD on delivery in 2018. This is the only indication of it being FSD. It also shows Homelink transmitter which today would be a $300 ofter purchase upgrade. Also consider your local market. Many more used Teslas in CA than in PA for example.

I just bought a 2020 Model 3 LR AWD that has Auto Pilot, FSD capable, 4 brand new tires, 1 free month of connectivity, a Tesla Warranty and has 28 K miles. My only concern now is getting my Long Range because I have it in the shop this week for a 4 wheel alignment because I'm concerned that I'm not getting the range that I should be getting. Often Enhanced Autopilot is on these used Teslas. What should that be valued at? $4000 ? Carvana used Tesla prices have gone up at least $5000 across the board in the last month. It’s funny to see the ice templates being applied to the Teslas on sites like Vroom. Features that only a gas car would have are listed but, unfortunately, the EV questions aren’t answered. Needs to be an EV template developed for used car sites.

I would say $4-5k would be an accurate value for EAP. Since AP is $3k and you get some FSD features

The info on what transfers and what doesn’t isn’t completely correct: - I bought a used X from a 3rd party (non Tesla) dealer in 2022, and lifetime premium connectivity DID transfer over - On the other hand, full self driving and enhanced autopilot WILL NOT transfer if the 3rd party dealer purchased it in auction from Tesla but WILL transfer if the dealer purchased it directly from the previous owner (eg during a trade-in). A carfax will show if the car was sold on auction. Also info screen isn’t sufficient. You need to see the “additional vehicle information” screen (which is another link from the vehicle info screen) for some info (eg if infotainment chipset for an S or X is gen 2 or gen 3)

Nice video. Lots of good info. I bought a used MS from Tesla a year and a half ago. However, only after i took delivery and was driving it home did i notice the car smelled bad inside. Turns out it had been a smokers car! Yuch! The smell drove me absolutely crazy whenever i drove it. Tesla paid to have it taken to a detailer twice, but the smell persisted! Communication with Tesla was terrible. Somehow i managed to get them to agree to take it back. and i got my money back a few weeks earlier. I think i will stick with new cars from now on......

I'd been looking for a long time and it is frustrating to look at 3rd party dealers like CarMax or Vroom as they really don't know what they have. Sometimes that can work in your favor like IndieAir below, they probably didn't know what they had and sold it for less then they should have (good job IndieAir for finding that). I ended up buying a used X ($56k) directly from Tesla, as it had all the features I wanted and it was priced right. So thrilled I finally have my Tesla!

I purchased my 2017 Model S last year from a Cadillac dealer and I still have premium connectivity, I must have gotten lucky. It also had enhanced autopilot and I had them put it in writing that I wouldn’t lose it, so I got FSD for $5,000 right before they did a price increase.

One more thing to talk about is warranty coverage especially on vehicles outside of the 50k mileage usually coverage. Does Carvana, Vroom, Carmax, etc provid?e any warranty on older cars.? Do they even have extended warranties that cover EVs?

Used cars are starting to show up on Teslas website again after a long hiatus. I had an order in for a new M3 RWD but recently found a 2019 SR+ with 23k miles for $37k. Decided to go that route and save $10k. We’ll see….supposed to pick it up in a few days. 🤞🏻

Wish i saw your video first. I got a 2014 Model S 85 for $28,500 with 71,000 miles last week (I wanted a Tesla since 2016) BUT it was PRE-AUTOPILOT. I thought all 2014's had the HW but found out that it was only the LATE one. I'm so disappointed in myself and feel I could've done better :(. I still have my supercharging and data after transferring ownership though and plan on hacking in OpenPilot to emulate AP
