Now that you went this far, you're only missing an Mcable. Trust me this is going to be a HUGE improvement. The colors get better and deeper, but the best thing is going to be the antialiasing on those harsh edges. I'm playing on a PC monitor and the visual improvement on a game like F-Zero is stunning.

I’ve been thinking about getting an M cable for a while now!

I find the improvement to be very noticeable on my PC monitor especially, but it's also better on a wide TV screen. It also slightly improve Switch games, it's not as pronounced compared to the GameCube, but it definitely make the games shaper, especially on slower pace games like Fire Emblem three houses :)

So, there is something more to this than PS2 Hdmi or Wii2HDMI, which are basically converters of the digital signal console outputs into HDMI. That really does look good. Your videos make me feel Gamecube really had a potential as a console. Thanks for the review!
@RetroBreak3 жыл бұрын
Yes this is true digital output straight from the system, no conversion, so it’s super sharp!
@camthesaxman33873 жыл бұрын
Wii2HDMI and PS2 HDMI are component to HDMI converters, so the console outputs an analog component signal, and the adapter converts it to digital HDMI. These Gamecube adapters plug into the digital port and convert the proprietary signal to HDMI using a FPGA. There's no significant difference in quality, so if you already have a Wii, just get the Wii2HDMI adapter.

Also I had another issue not mentioned in any reviews I seen. My adapter was stretching out everything to full widescreen all shitty and stretched out. Well it turns out my TV did not recognize it was 4:3 apsect ratio for some reason. So I just have to manually go into my tv settings on my tv and force the tv to 4:3 mode.
@RetroBreak2 жыл бұрын
I think a TV will do that with any HDMI signal, just have to change it in the tv unfortunately

My gamecube has a gcloader, one of these prism adapters, and a gameboy player with a gbax5 everdrive. (Which I wouldn't have gotten if not for the video on this channel.) I wasn't able to capture footage from gbi until I changed the video format to "Custom-M", and only being able to access settings once I ran gbi from an sd2sp2. And I'm curious to know if that's an issue others have.

I have just heard of adapters frying consoles. I'm worried now. I'm using a N64toHDMI adapter on my GameCube (wanted only one for both) but there are a lot of artifacts, ghosting and weird vertical lines apparent on light colors. The image is very clear though and it only cost $20. It plugs directly in the console too. That whole frying thing makes me want to go back to my generic $10 composite to HDMI adapter though. It' cheap and the image is blurrier but hey, I'm using the OG composite cable that came with the console this way for a more authentic experience I guess. I still have my CRT from my childhood but it only has mono sound and no widescreen for the games that support it. Stereo sound alone makesa good argument for playing on my 4k Bravia.

@RetroBreak3 жыл бұрын
It’s loads better than a wii HDMI adaptor, that is just a converter, but this actually uses the digital signal of the console it’s self
@pokepress3 жыл бұрын
It’s difficult to see the difference in captured footage, but the GCVideo-based solutions do offer a slightly cleaner picture if you see them in person. How much better depends on the quality of your Wii adapter.

Use the Swiss program with the Datel SD loader and choose Force Progressive scan, or set it to 480p instead of 480i before launching the game. Or if you have an american console, just hold B when starting the game up

Hello, will this work for PAL consoles/games? Recently bought a 4K TV and wanted to replay Pokemon Colosseum and I’m looking to buy a GameBoy Player. So I bought a upscaler hdmi cable but not only is it blurry the colors are all wrong! It boots in nstc mode I guess there’s only yellow and grey tints. Such a bummer, it looked better on my Plasma with regular AV cable. So will this make the colors right like in your setup? Or is there something else I need as a European. Thanks a lot!
@jonathan29503 жыл бұрын
It’s the PAL games that don’t output progressive scan, not the PAL GameCube itself. That’s the reason I mostly have US NTSC games, so I can get 480p from them natively even from my PAL GameCube. You just need a Freeloader to be able to play US games on it, or in my case just get a mod chip to make it even less hassle! I actually have the component cable for the GameCube, but I still prefer playing my games via RGB on a CRT at 480i. I think it looks better than 480p on a HD TV (that’s subjective of course). The ideal scenario would be 480p on a CRT. I have an adapter that would convert the component cables to VGA, but I don’t have an old style CRT PC Monitor to try it on. Hopefully I’ll find one going cheap at some point, everyone seems to want loads of money for them these days!
