Love your videos Mike! You mentioned “bait peak pay”. Here’s an example: DD was offering $5 Peak Pay one Saturday afternoon 4 -7pm in Atchison, Kansas. Wife and I decided let’s drive there and take advantage of that very unusual large amount. We drove 72 miles to Atchison, Kansas and hit “Dash Now” at exactly 4pm. 25 minutes later we received a shopping order at Dollar General. 35 minutes later we had the order completed and delivered. While at Dollar General an employee there told me she considered Door Dash for extra income but she learned there were only 3 total merchants in Atchison. Taco Bell, McDonalds and Dollar General. In the 3 hours we spent there we had a total of 3 orders! Your description of “Bait” peak pay was right on!

I just had a bad timing on both my cars breaking down and almost two weeks getting them statened out. That was my fault I let one sit to long. I have to drive both. Everyone should save to be able to live three months. I am moving to NC after April of next year. I am door dashing full time till I get my business back up. But I am going to always dash Thurs Fri and some weekends. I am a 54 year old women who wants to jump and start all over. Plan on traveling making my suburu in a mini camper and dashing on my trips. In the summer, we had $7 Peak Pay here in Orange County, California (Disneyland for those who don’t know) & it was completely SLOW because everyone signed up for it. So High Peak Pay isn’t all that great if you and every Joe are just sitting in their cars in the parking lot near a hot spot. I prefer $3 Peak Pay on weekends 4:30-8:30pm.

I deliver in the South Pittsburgh area, I deliver with DD and UE and I enjoy delivering for both, I don’t deliver in or around Pittsburgh your brother Mark can have it, I use the information you give out especially the mile to pay equation, just being out there on the apps especially during the peak hours things usually fall into place, it’s great viewing other delivers you tube pages a lot can be learned but the best way to learn is taking all the information I got and applying on the road, the best way to learn is doing it.

In my area, red zones mean nothing. It's just a historical area where the algorithm saw the last batch of activity. I've made the mistake going to 2 different markets near me during times it says busy or very busy and not received any orders for an hour. This is both on schedule and dash now. Hot spots are no indicator either. It's just the last areas that received orders. The algorithm is just looking where it thinks it needs more drivers on, not where a lot of orders are being placed at that time for you to be able to work.
@jezer29
@jezer29 3 жыл бұрын
That was exactly what happened to me today!! The south Tampa market was red “very busy” it’s 25 mins out of my starting point. I got out there and when it let me dash it gave me two hours. I got one order within that time. When it was over and I go back to the Home Screen, it was still busy. I thought to myself how is that possible if I just sat out here for that long and got nothing?!?

It's like you're going back in time seeing what was busy, not necessarily what IS busy currently as you mentioned. This is why it's so important to understand market trends so you'll know when you're most likely to receive orders/bonuses.
@ASaner07
@ASaner07 3 жыл бұрын
@@jezer29 ugh! That's even worse when you go that far. I did it once for the next area over from my normal zone. Usually when it's red it is busy. So I got up early and went over for a breakfast shift since it's red there every day but not in my area. I sat there for 2 hours and received no orders. Never again, now I just go there for lunch or dinner when I can't schedule in my area because I know I will get orders then. I figured West coast FL got all the orders. I'm East Coast FL here.

@@carriedenet7450 I'm about to start in central Akron, how's the market up in Elyria? As a Papa John's driver I average a $3.75 tip. If you have Android there's a really good app called Delivery Tip Tracker for $2 or $3 that's been really helpful for tracking pay. It has a heat map feature that will show you where the best tips come from. You just have to enter the address, tip, and employer pay for every delivery

My answer to that is to stay in that marketplace that you're already in but if you get an order that ends up in the marketplace you're trying to go to that you may have otherwise not taken, it might be worth weighing that in as well since you aren't really factoring in the round trip.

My market is so much different than yours. We don't have different market places to choose from just Hotspots. We deliver in 4 different cities.(not very far apart). I really only see peak pay more than 2 dollars early morning..rarely do I get peak pay or incentive for lunch or dinner. If I do its mostly $1.00 more. I have been dashing for 2 months and usually only from 530 pm to 730 pm and average 40 bucks on 3 to 4 deliveries. Weekends I can pull in $60 to $80 for 3 hours. My goal is 180 per week I have made $275. So I am happy with that. And as far as proximity i have gotten orders being 5 miles away from some places. With that said have learned all my tips and tricks from your videos. Thanks for all the help you have made it much easier and less stressful. My goal is to go full time eventually.
@algor.rhythm640
@algor.rhythm640 3 жыл бұрын
To answer the question of who gets the order: Proximity is number one. There is nothing else. I have tested this time and time again. As drivers decline the order it is then offered to the next closest driver. If you end your dash then push Dash Now, then you may get the same order again but at a higher price, if the order has not been accepted yet. The longer an order sits and not accepted, the more base pay is added to that order. Also, it should be said that distance affects the payout. The payout you see on those high miles offers is what the offer would be if you had driven to the merchant at it wasn't still accepted. I have ended my dash after declining an offer then right away started a new dash only to get the same offer at higher pay. It's the lowest bidder system as door dash tries to buy us at the lowest price for the miles. Customer tips and peak pay make the orders more attractive. Challenges and other promos are meant to influence our dashing behavior for quantity and not quality. That is to say, DD want's us to accept every order but we are wise to this and don't accept everything that is not profitable. Good day to you. I wish you the best.

I’m from the LA area and I always try to stay near home like a local plaza that’s has a bunch of food places about 10 minutes from home. Saves a lot of gas and lots of orders and most are nearby with good pay. Example: 2 miles for $8 order . I drive back to the plaza when order is done and accept orders as I head back to the plaza if it’s worth it . This is the best strategy that works in my opinion . I usually do $40 in about 2 hours

Dashing in a kind of small market, peak pay around $1.5-3, and tips are low, and results in lots of base pay order, I learn a lot from you guys about dollars to mile to time ratio and decline lots of orders, and worrying about the effect of low acceptance rate, so now I am backed to accept low pay orders. (been about four months, now) Lot's of singles and families living in Condos and sometimes families in Big Homes. Not many upscale restaurants (some local Italian) , but the Fast Food in my location is profitable. My question is about the Dash Cam...(amazon). Why is it a good idea? I'm thinking that in my area a lot of the deliveries are in Rural Areas. It's hard enough to see the mailboxes during the day! That is why I don't drive after dark anymore. Is this something that I should consider? What does it do? I'm really interested in this! If it helps me see at night! BTW... I'm a senior driving around and loving it! I'm doing pretty well...$. Thanks for watching John, I simply zero out my trip odometer and record those logged miles at the end of my driving shift. Then you have a truly accurate number

When i dash there are the same dashers and we talk and most are top dashers but it seems that the same two dashers get all the orders back to back while we sit and wait... what up with that

I'm a relative newbie with 4 months and 2000+ deliveries. My home area is busier gray (as a top dasher I can dash) than my surrounding areas when they are red, busy, very busy and I make better money even if they have $4.00 peak pay too. When deciding on a hotspot to venture to I generally pick the one that will put me in the best position for as many merchants as possible. I also stay off the interstate when not on a delivery. I very rarely park anywhere. Because I have gotten orders as far as 10 miles out I cruise slowly from one hot spot area to the other, passing in the area of as many merchants as possible. This seems to be effective for me. The only thing I need to do is decline some low paying and long distance opportunities. That's my down fall. I accept them all. I could be having a $3+ a mile day, then I get a few low paying, no tip, long distance deliveries. For some reason I feel guilty if I think about declining, so I don't.

Hi Dennis good overall strategy, don't feel guilty about declining low paying orders. The only reason you'd need to accept them is to maintain standards for Top Dasher

Don’t accept them and don’t feel bad because most likely they didn’t tip and what kind of Neanderthal doesn’t tip someone who’s delivering they food u wouldn’t go to a restaurant and not tip 🤷🏽‍♂️ so definitely don’t feel bad

I work in mass and I have gone to pick up an order and the restaurant is closed or will not open till 4 and it is only 1. I do not get paid for these orders.

Did it for 3 days maybe worked 15 hours made ok money but I don't know if it's enough to justify wear and tear on my car I get way too many orders that take 30 to 40 minutes from accepting to completion. I want to keep acceptance rate up, and I also don't want to just sit but I need to be making more for the gas and wear and tear and taking a $5 order could keep me from getting an order that actually tips well with same distance. Issue seems to be customer doesn't know to tip better for distance like not an extra buck but maybe even double tip for drive both ways. Also, I received 5 five star ratings when I got hit with a 1 and it lowered me to 4.33...but what sucks is I can't see what the rating was given for? I'm clueless..like nevermind who but why?

I always stay at the Safeway. I get a lot of shopping orders which generally pay more than food orders. It’s also by a lot of restaurants. It’s it unusual for me to deliver to 4 million dollar homes. I live in Washington state by Seattle. I’ve dashed for 16 months, 2800 deliveries with a 4.94 rating. I’ve only had maybe 3 scams of people trying to get free food. Some restaurants will not give you the order until they see my phone because of getting ripped off. I’m 71 years old and with high inflation I’m seeing dashers older than me out there. I want to get a 9-5 job but I’m spoiled with the flexibility of door dash.

Hi Mike! You mentioned Dash now, what does it mean? I've been told that only top dashers get this offer. Is this true? How do you keep that status?
@itsasecret2474

You can dash now in any pink or red zone just get to one of those zones and once it sees that you're there you can dash now. Or you can choose that zone and it will offer you the option to dash along the way.

Never get peak pay in my area, I’m always checking for it but it never happens. Most I can make in a week working 40hrs is $500, thinking about quitting honestly just don’t think I live in a good market.
