There is no shame in being a delivery driver. Delivery drivers are the backbone of this country's commerce. The only thing people should be ashamed of is, if they aren't giving a 100% of an honest days work in the job they are working. You need to re adjust your outlook.

I felt the same way about doing delivery at first but then I realized that there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. If you’re able to make your life better then take advantage of the opportunity. I use it as a side hustle and I paid off my car quicker because of it. I’m very thankful for the extra income whenever I need it. It’s also a good backup plan

100%, thank you! I didn't mean to say that in a way like I'm "embarrassed". I meant more like, "I've built a career with a certain online image, and I didn't want to broadcast to my clients-that this is what I'm doing now." I did post this on my IG, and my photography business did take a hit because of it. Not a big deal anymore, but I was worried about how it would affect my previous job/business. I have learned to be more assertive with businesses. I have walked up to the counter at Mcdonald's and was immediately told by the manager to please wait because they were servicing drive-thru orders and someone would be with me in 5-10 minutes. I just loudly asked if they had my Doordash order ready and one of the girls working in the drive-thru handed it to me. I was the only person in Mcdonald's lobby and if I hadn't been saying anything I would have been standing there for 10 minutes while they already had the order ready. I get paid to drive not wait. Another time I showed up at Walmart and waited over 45 minutes for a $3 order. I went to the pickup door and went inside and asked them what the status of the Doordash order was for 4 items. They immediately started telling them that I couldn't be inside their pick-up area and I told them that I had been trying to call them for 45 minutes and that they wouldn't answer the phone. Walmart employees told me that they were too busy to answer the phone. I demanded to see a manager to find out why they were so slow and then someone quickly showed up with my order to get me to leave. As I was leaving a line of angry people had begun forming behind me because they had been waiting over 2 hours to get their orders. I have since decided to not take Walmart orders anymore because I am paid to drive and not to sit and wait. At Papa John's I was told that the wait was over 2 hours and the employee tried to get me to cancel the order. I told them that there is no way to cancel the order from the driver's end that all I could do is alert Doordash that the order wasn't ready and tell them why there was a delay and unassign the order.

Start working out first thing in the morning. Dont hit the snooze button. Get out of bed and run 2 or 3 miles then do some weights for 30-40 min or body weight exercises like push ups. If you do it every morning 6 days a week it will get your blood flowing. Drink a smoothie with 7 different kinds of fruit after workout. You will have energy all day. After about 2 or 3 weeks you will notice a change in your energy level. Things will get easier. Blood flowing hard 1st thing in the morning is the best thing you can do for yourself. It will help almost every other aspect of your life improve. Good luck man, you can do it. At least give it a 30 day challenge and see if you feel different. If I just wake up, get dressed, make my coffee, and get in the car, without thinking about it at all, it was reasonably easy. Now, you can't do it like that forever. @callmelil 2 жыл бұрын
@@Eveproguides I will make a video in due time, but I can give you a few pointers that I would likely include in the video: - Photos are not really worth your time, but they are worth the "encouragement". Videos don't sell nearly as often as photos, so it can be disheartening at the beginning when you're going days or weeks (maybe months) without a sale. I shot photos in the beginning because those daily sales make it feel like you're moving forward, but several years down the line, they are 50% of the work with like 2-5% of the payoff, so I don't really bother any more. I shoot photos and videos together, but setup shoots for and focus primarily on video. - Shoot in 4k. Some people are still buying FHD, but you won't get those $50-150 sales without 4k, and those feel really damn good. I just made $50 on this video this morning: www.pond5.com/stock-footage/item/168652633-adorable-happy-toddler-and-her-father-looking-over-tiled-wal. Not to mention, 4k will still be selling 5 years from now. FHD might not be, so it's an investment - Shoot in Slowmo. I used to carry a gimbal around everywhere I went when I started stock with my 6D-carried on when I bought my EOS R. I'm sure you know, setting up and carrying around a gimbal is a huge time investment, but I was able to ditch it for 95% of my work when I bought my EOS R5, which increased the "amount" of footage I could shoot, like 3-5x. I'm shooting most stock at 4K 120fps now, and any shakiness left is almost too easy to smooth out in post - Someone else edits all my footage now. I didn't mention it in this video, but if you watch my other videos, you'll see I make use of Virtual assistants and I even have a VA agency (lilassistance.com/). For a little over a year, I have had at least one person who edits my footage and someone else who does all the titles and keywords. This frees me up to just film-not only do I make way more "per hour," but I'm also able to invest more footage faster. - Someone else does all my keywords and titles. I mentioned this in the previous point, but it's worth mentioning: if you can only outsource one of those two things, let it be this one. The last 4 points I mentioned cost money-money I understand not everyone has. It's perfectly acceptable to start without those things and build up over time. Somewhere in the 5-10% range of my income comes from footage I took with my iPhone. They aren't in any way required to start out. - I am a member of around 15 stock sites, but ~95% of my money comes from just 4: Pond5, Shutterstock, Adobe, iStock. What to shoot: - I shoot pretty much anything and everything I come across that I think will make a nice video. I'm going to say 50-60% of my sales come from food. Food I prepare, food my wife prepares, food from restaurants. I'll get up in the middle of the restaurant and film some sweeping motions in the food-film my wife taking a bite. I'm sure I look stupid, but I pretty much always pay for the meal a couple times over. I have even asked restaurants for a larger table, more utensils, etc..just to film. They are (usually) happy to oblige. No one has ever asked, but I'd even be willing to give them the footage for free if I was allowed to just have space to film food. Here's an example here: www.pond5.com/stock-footage/item/168637114-delicious-green-mexican-enchiladas-and-quesadillas-brown-tab I asked the restaurant, and they gave me a larger table with better light. They gave me the napkin, olive oil, etc..just for the purpose of filming. That whole session cost me around 45 min, ~$15 for the food, maybe $30 to my Virtual Assistants, and has gained me right around $400 in its lifetime (obviously still selling). I also sell a lot of my kids, my wife, and myself. Sometimes doing an activity, sometimes doing nothing at all. I sometimes whip out my phone like this: www.pond5.com/stock-images/photos/item/144914971-female-hand-smartphone-recording-little-girl-cutting-avocado, so I have one video/photo of her actually doing the activity, and then a second of like a "proud parent" moment if that makes sense - If you look at my profile, you will probably notice that not all of my stuff is great or even good. The truth is, lots of stuff sells that you don't expect, and lots of stuff you think is going to sell, just doesn't. People pay me dozens of dollars for shitty media all the time. In my experience, with this stock media climate we currently live in, more = better. - How to make the most from each shoot? I try not to focus too much on this question, because Shutterstock has introduced a limit of 100 video submissions per week (they're my main money maker), and they reject stuff constantly for being "too similar" to another shot, so I waste my weekly quote, and therefore, time. I do usually have a list (boring): 1 pan left, 1 pan right, 1 close up, 1 far away, of like a food dish, for example. I might do each of those things at an angle and then do them each one more time with a bird's eye view. I will often film food together, and switch their places, so I get the same shots with each dish front and center. Sometimes, I have my wife with me, and I will ask her to "take a bite" or do something else with it, like in this video: drive.google.com/file/d/1l93uJ7vZcnEt8dZ5LU9eSLJnJ0WYGF3z/view?usp=sharing, so I probably ended up with 20-30 clips from this scenario. Again, more is better, but you will get rejected for lack of quality, and you will get rejected for having too many clips that are similar. - Last thing, which is really two things: the people who accept or reject your footage are real people, and they have different tolernaces for what's allowed. But once something is rejected, it's hard to get it accepted again. Don't focus too much on things that get rejected. Your money is in VOLUME, and the more time you devote to a single clip-especially one that got rejected-the more money you are wasting. Accept that you try, some you win, some you lose. On that same note, just toss anything with visible branding (or sell it as editorial). It sucks sometimes, but it is hardly worth trying to correct it in post, and it will almost certainly get rejected if you don't. Each photo, each clip is near worthless by itself-even if you think it's great, and spending more than a few minutes editing each clip is not worth it. Even if you outsource that to a VA like I do, it's still not worth it. Edit: Sorry one more last thing. Making money takes time, these stock sites have an algorithm just like KZbin, and I think my first sale came like 3 months after my first upload. I was all gung-ho about stock-inspired by some KZbin videos, and I devoted myself to uploading 10 clips/day. I did for a whole month, but the 250 or so clips that got accepted did not get a single sale...so I quit. Until one day, sales just started coming in, and it just snowballs as you continue contributing to your portfolio. The same still happens today. The footage I upload today won't sell today-it might not start selling for weeks or even months. Whether you hire someone or do it all yourself, this starts as an investment.

@@Eveproguides Of course, man! If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. As for the video, what you'll find when you get into it is that photos sell in volume, but on Shutterstock (my biggest money maker), my average photo sale makes me like $0.15. My average video sale makes me somewhere around $10-15. Imagine, you would have to sell 80-100 photos to make the same amount of money as 1 video. Yes, the photos do sell more frequently, but not by that much. I think the stock photo market has been around for a long time and is generally over-saturated. Stock video, on the other hand-there is a much smaller supply of high quality content, and a growing demand. I take these numbers from Shutterstock because they're my biggest money-maker, but photos do sell for more on the other sites. I think I make around $0.50-0.60 on an average photo sale with Adobe, for example, but this generally carries through with all of them-and on Pond5 and iStock, even my sales _volume_ is higher in video, despite having roughly the same number of photo and video assets. This could be because, like I said before, lower supply in video with growing demand.

The multi app idea is a good idea but that was back in 2021. Now Uber penalizes you if you go out of the way more than one or two minutes they don't mess around now same thing with GrubHub. I don't know about doordash because I stopped using them because of low tippers. But as far as I know right now it is very difficult to multi app unless both pick up locations are really close like same parking lot and drop off are no more than a mile apart

@callmelil
@callmelil 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure where they "openly state" this, but if you're a coder and you read their github or their algorithm documentation, you can see they give everyone within a certain range the same priority. Someone 5 meters away will have higher priority than someone 5 miles away, but someone 5 meters and someone 500 meters have equal priority (for example). How far out those ranges extend depends on the restaurant, min to availability of the food, how far the dropoff is, etc..etc..it's essentially a math equation that helps them squeeze out all the money they can. You're crazy if you think DD gives two sh*ts about one person's ability to arrive 2 or 3 min earlier than another person. The only things they care about is how much they have to pay each person and whether each person can get there within a certain time range.

Memorize where the massive 6 floor apartments are on the map so you can reject/cancel them. Half the time on those is finding parking, trying to get a code from customer, waiting for an elevator only to find it requires a key card to use, going up the wrong side of the apartment, so you have to go all the way back down and find the right door. One time I got stuck in a parking garage because the elevator I used to get in had a keycode, but I forgot what floor I parked on so I got off on the wrong floor only to discover the elevator door on that floor was a key card instead of a code, so I was literally stuck on that floor shouting for help as I circled around looking for a staircase.

Questions : Do you take the Order and Pay GH orders and if so does it affect your $/hr ? Am I setting myself back by driving til 4am or overnight? Your take on drive thrus?
@callmelil
@callmelil 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. I rarely take the order and pay orders, but sometimes they are irresistibly large. In those cases, I will often call the restaurant ahead of time. I call in the order, if they answer, I ask how long it’s going to take, place the order, and then will usually go accept another order from another app, depending on the time they give me. Sometimes I’ll get lucky, and the restaurant will be on my route to another restaurant. I’ll drop in, place the order, and then go take the other order while it’s being prepared. Sometimes, it doesn’t work out and I’ll have to cancel an order, but I can usually make it work as long as I’m following my other rules (ie never accepting shitty orders to begin with an avoiding traffic). I would not take them if it didn’t increase my $/hour, and so I rarely take them. Some people in my area have been successful with late nights, but in my experience, orders are more scarce, and my money is (at best) as good as during the day, so if I want to work more hours, I do better in the mornings-I usually won’t work before 8am or after 10pm. Sometimes, I will accept a drive thru order if I’m right next to the restaurant, and can see how long it is. Rarely, otherwise-even really big ones often get so big because people keep canceling orders, so you’ll get there thankful for a $20 order and realize it’s going to take an hour + to even get through

Ok the 4 orders per hour sounds impossible unless the order is ready, every time, the traffic is never bad, you find each customer location without incident and of course the order is about 2 miles. I think in over 2000 deliveries I've had 4 deliveries in an hour happen five times. Generally I would make 25 max in those hour blocks. I can think about hourly, I just set a daily goal and try to hit it. The business is just to hit or miss minute to minute to forecast much.

Really good question. My answer is pretty me-specific though. My wife is Swedish (and not American). We normally live in London, but I brought her and my daughters to the US. We stayed with my parents, we traveled a bit along the east coast, but my wife is only allowed to stay in the US for 90 days..so I sent her and my daughters off to Mexico at the end of it. When you have a family thousands of miles away, life outside of work becomes kinda meaningless. So, it was easy for me to just keep my head straight. I had my ticket to Mexico, and everything outside of delivery seemed kinda pointless. It is a quite depressing reality, I'm not going to lie. It was very hard and emotional at times. Because of that, I think having an end date or an end goal is really important. Having little things to look forward to is also important. It might not be the answer you were looking for, but I hope that helps

The only time I take orders from different apps is if I am 2-4 minutes away from dropping off my first order. Then I am okay with doing that. Especially if the next order I am getting is a solid one. But I agree multi-apping orders at the same time doesn't seem ethical. Also I agree with your 1st point. REJECT ALL THE CRAP if you can. It really is about knowing your market and the time of day though. I probably will take those $5-$6 Dunkin orders on a SAT morning as long as they go by the $1/mile rule. But those same orders going 10 miles can fuck right off. I find it ironic how people shit on us delivery drivers when it's not just picking up food and dropping it off. I mean yeah that is the job. But to maximize your money you need to plan and know what your costs are going to be in terms of burning gas.

This is a great video, I’ve done Uber eats for two years and within 2 months they deactivated me twice and now they’ve made their final decision not to reactivate me, I’ve never had any issues out of the whole time I’ve done Uber eats, their reason for deactivation is low rating. I loved Uber eats, it’s the best paying compared to door dash. In my area door dash is like pocket change but with Uber eats. I could actually pay a bill with that money,

That was similar in my market. Uber Eats was not as busy as Doordash, but orders were way bigger, so money was similar for less work. @callmelil
@callmelil 2 жыл бұрын
@@fernandomercado5995 I did the math somewhere in the comments of my other Doordash video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHjKnKWbZtpmsLM I’m not going to do it all again, but I’ll copy and paste it here if I find it. Essentially, it will cost Doordash single digit pennies per delivery, rather than the $2-6 they pay now. Each Cruise vehicle will save Doordash about $500k over its lifetime (accounting for fuel and maintenance and all other applicable fees), and will likely bring down costs they already have, like insurance. That’s assuming all vehicles are full sized cars, like Cruise’s are, even though Doordash is already using smaller, cheaper vehicles like Nuro’s car and Starship’s bots (to say, there will likely be a combo of autonomous vehicles that bring the costs down even more than the $500k figure I quoted above). That’s also assuming Doordash won’t introduce additional fees to offset the fact customers don’t have to tip anymore (they almost definitely will). Like you said, Doordash is not profitable, and Uber eats has gone as far as saying autonomous vehicles are their “key” to profitability. They quite literally, can’t afford NOT to make this move. Also, to answer your statement about them having to spend lots of money: labs.doordash.com/ they have an entire wing of their company dedicated to robotics and automation and these vehicles: www.getcruise.com/ are already built. They just have to get regulatory approval and place an order. Hundreds of billions of dollars are being poured into this. Doordash doesn’t even have to do it themselves, they have partnered with multiple autonomous vehicles companies already, including the one linked above. I’m not sure what you mean they won’t “spend the money”. Contracts are already signed. They’re already spending the money. You seem to be missing the point that they are also spending billions on their drivers. That car maintenance is a very small fraction of their eventual savings

Buy a hybrid. You can (or could) get a used prius or something for under $10k. They pay for themselves in the gas they save and are pretty much the only way you can make money with these types of jobs. for ex. 1:03 $35/hr.? $12000/month - $1000 in gas = $11,000 net profit. Yes good money. But working 12hrs/day for 28.6 days/month is not sustainable. $11,000 / 28.6 days = $385/day / 12 hrs = $32/hr. Your estimate was of “almost $35/hr.” but that’s without deducting the gas, so $32/hr is more accurate. $12,000/$35 = 342.86 hrs / 4 weeks in a month = 85.7 hrs = the equivalent of having TWO jobs. You worked 12hrs/day/7days a week which left you zero time to do anything at all. Not sustainable and not a life worth living for a mere net profit of $32/hr after deducting gas.
@callmelil
@callmelil 2 жыл бұрын
“Not a life worth living for a mere net profit...” you seem like an intelligent person, so I’m sure you know you can cut it down to 40 hours/week and still make the same hourly wage if you so choose. Also I have the actual numbers, so you don’t have to speculate: I drove a 2005 Prius. Gas, 1 oil change, and estimated depreciation was $625 in 6000 miles (gas was admittedly cheaper then than now, that number would be about $830 today. I’m in Turkey right now, but my mom told me yesterday gas in my hometown has gone up to $5/gallon). Net profit is $11,629 in 29 days. Average work day was a touch over 12 hours. It comes to about $33.40/hour after ALL expenses. But, as I stated in the video, not all hours are created equal, and the good hours are reasonably predictable. You could probably work the best 40 hours/week and make $7-7.5k in a month. That means you cut down to 40 hours/week and you’re making closer to $42-43/hour. That’s still a $90k/year job, and with mileage deduction, your taxable income and therefor tax burden, is much lower than someone in a $90k/year office job. Probably taking home the equivalent of someone in a $110k+ office job. I know you’re trying to be overly pessimistic, and I did work a metric shitton of hours to get to that $12k figure. I recognize $12k/month for more than 6 months to a year, is not sustainable. That’s exactly why I said “I’m Done” in the title. My recommendation to anyone is to milk these companies and get out. But, these numbers are great no matter how you slice it.

Anyways, with this vehicle change I started doing Instacart, but I've noticed when using the app and especially when using GPS at same time my phone slows down incredibly and even will have odd glitches ( things like back button quits working, or I try to message customer and my keyboard won't pop up anymore requiring me to restart phone which is a nightmare when say on delivery following gps to customers house therefore having to pull over). I have a moto Z4 so about 2 or 3 yrs old and only using 32% of my storage. @@jacobwhicker8423 I use an iPhone 8 plus, and I have also had some issues. This might sound odd, but mine would act up when it got hot, my gps would quit working, my apps would wig out. If I left it in front of the fan/AC, I hardly ever had any issues. Maybe try that if you haven’t already. If you think your issues can be solved by using two phones, then by all means, get a second phone. Just note that it will present its own challenges. I was mainly referring to having two screens distracting you, and having to handle both while driving. If two apps on the same phone are notifying you of new deliveries, it’s easy to switch back and forth, but if two phones are notifying you, switching back and forth is more complicated. The problems 2 phones present are not insurmountable though, and maybe the upsides outweigh the downsides for you PS: I also tried Lyft, and it SUCKS compared to delivery. @callmelil

A couple things wrong with this. I haven't done delivery in over a year, but from when I was doing it: - I have done well over 10,000 deliveries and reject about 97% of what I'm offered. I would not necessarily expect to see a $16 offer in "80 deliveries". In fact, I have seen (and rejected) over 100 $3-5 orders IN A ROW from DD (when I get a 0% acceptance rate). The more you reject, the more you see/have to choose from - There are certainly differences from one market to the next, but that doesn't mean what you see is "standard" and what I see isn't. I have dashed in about a dozen markets, and generally the smaller the market, the worse it is. 75% of Americans live within the bounds of a market that is as big or bigger than mine. Not all, but most of those 75% should be able to hit numbers like mine if they really work at it. That might not include you, but don't act like your results are typical. - "15 min between orders sometimes." That is pretty normal during the slowest parts of the day in any market. It is really predictable, and you can choose when to lower your standards or take a break. I compiled stats on what to expect each hour, and generally do something else during those times (ie grab lunch, go hiking, record stock video, etc.). I go over that in a little more detail in my Q&A: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGK9q4pjfNeEhrM

Solid advice for how to maximize your earnings doing gig delivery work. Although this was also during the pandemic when deliveries exploded cause nobody wanted to go out for their food. So maybe now that the pandemic is over 12k in a month would be a lot harder to reach for sure. It’s funny, KZbin videos about food delivery seems to be divided. Half the videos are about how gig work is dead, that uber & doordash will go out of business or how you can’t make any money anymore…while the other half of youtube videos say how you can make $2,000 to $3,000 a week doing it. 😂 it’s either feast or famine.

I haven't dashed since I made this video, so I can't attest to the current state of the market, but I did predict it would taper off and eventually come to an end in a later video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHjKnKWbZtpmsLM As per your feast or famine comment, it's kinda funny: around 2 months before this $12k month, I talked 2 of my 3 siblings into doing gig delivery. They constantly complained about it, while not making anything close to what I did (in the same market, at the same time). I did my best to walk them through my strategies, but they were never really able to pull it off. They're both still doing it on and off, and they are pretty much making the same amount of money as they were back then. I love my siblings, but the only conclusion I could really come up with is that there's a certain grit/tenacity required to make this kind of money-tenacity that they just don't have. And maybe most people don't, I don't know

Took my first step at multi-apping today. Made about $22/hr on GH and DD. The adjustment is tough. I’ll keep you posted.😊
