How to get the BEST WILD HORSES in Zelda: Breath of the Wild (NO AMIIBO)!

While I was fiddling around taming horses in Zelda I realized that horses of different speeds carry their heads differently. 2* horses are very leisurely 3* Horses have a bit of a bob and carry their head higher. 4* Horses dip their nose and sort of shovel the air with their motions. 5* Horses throw their legs out and really move their head, carrying it a little lower than the others. You can also run up alongside a wild horse to see how fast it is by comparing it to one you have. Saves a ton of time when hunting for a fast one. Between the visual variations and a little chasing you can tell what stats the horses have without wasting any time trying to jump on them. The other thing to note is that the weaker horses will always follow the one with the most stats. So if you go for the herd leader it's likely going to be the 4/4/5 horse. I'm always looking to see if a 5/5/5 horse exists, but I don't think they do. And all spotted horses suck, which grills me. Ah well. I hope that helps anyone looking for tips, this video helped me a bit on more places to poke around for horses. :D

Frimbertrips, About the "Run along side a wild horse" thing, it doesn't matter as my 4 speed horse caught up to a 5 speed one. I think that they made the horses slower for when people are going on foot.

The five star speed horse is the perfect horse for the new ancient horse saddle and bridle. The gear maxes out the stamina making for a max stamina and speed horse. Adding on the ability to teleport to your side it turn it into the ultimate horse.

There might be better horses than Epona when it comes to Stats, but none of them has a Gentle temperament, which means there's a chance they will disobey you even with Max Bond. There's nothing worse than having a Guardian locking on you, and have your horse shaking its head and say _"nah, I can take it"_ when you just want to sprint away. XD

To respond to that: This reminds me of an old online racing game. It was a website game, from when I was little. Every car in the game, if a person counted, had the same number of points. The question was how were those points distributed between the various skill slots. This is the same. Using Epona as an example, every Horse in this game can have a maximum of 12 stars between the 3 slots, which can each carry a maximum of 5 stars. But only in two of the three slots. The third slot will then be left with a measly 2 stars. Temperament isn't an issue. It's just there to stop players from getting an awesome horse right of the bat. Horse's are easily tamed by giving them some apples (6-10).

I got my 4/4/5 horse in the Taobob Grasslands, next to the Giant Horse. The main selling point is that it looks like Dark Link's horse, with a jet black body and a titanium white mane. With the dark link costume, royal guard's set, and that horse, you look badass.

I keep hearing that spotted horses suck, and I own a pretty skewbald horse with a blonde mane (his name is Carlo, he's pretty average stat-wise). I've had him since my third or fourth day playing BotW, and I just can't bring myself to use another horse, even though his stats are average at best!! I tamed him simply cause I thought he was pretty, but now I just have too strong a bond to use my other better horses XD He gets the job done, though! Been a couple weeks since I played BotW, but I think he has 3-3-3 stats, might be a 2 or a 4 somewhere in there.

I’ve replayed the game multiple times and every time I always keep my first horse. Even if I don’t use them all the time they were my first and have a special place. Always in my stable and I never release them even when a better horse comes a long. Currently on a new master mode file and my first horse got me through all 4 Divine beasts and I started farming better horses today. Still keeping Bulbasaur around ❤️

Saddle allows warping ability to horse for much easier calls, Headgear gives horse +3 speed gallops Epona pros- good stats all 4, gentile nature cons- no 5 stats, mostly amiibo based, cant change equipment so no teleporting ancient saddle dlc giant horse pros- larger, more power, covers more ground cons- wild nature, no speed boosts 0 stamina, no equipment change white horse pros- good stats, max stamina, customizable equipment can teleport cons- wild nature, 3 speed these horses pros- great stats, customizable gear cons- possible farming to get good stat horse, wild nature, might not be the color you want?

I got the 4/4/5 horse in 30 mins after going straight there after getting the glider. Now I just have to unlock more stables in order to fast travel the horse to me. hahah this is my second game file, so i knew exactly where to go;). In my first round I had an army of slow spotted horses until I found the royal white one!

You can go to the Taobab Grassland as soon as you get the paraglider. Make sure to cook stamella shrooms and courser bee honey from the Great Plateau for stamina, as well as some Sunset Firefly elixirs or other sneak stuff if you think it's necessary. Fast travel to the Owa Daim (Stasis) Shrine and paraglide off the cliff behind it. Voila you're in the Taobab Grassland, one out of two spots where the best horses are.

@@ryanspackman548 the other location is Upland Lindor, which is Northwest of Hyrule Castle. The closest fast travel is the Maag No'rah Shrine, which is a pain since it's in an alcove in a cliff face that you have to climb to get out of. The Taobab Grasslands are much easier.

My horses 1. Cloudy. A light blue spotted horse with a dark blue mane. Only spotted horse I kept because I like him so much, he was the first horse I ever max bonded with. His stats are 2/2/3, I equipped him with the extravagant saddle, and he has a braided mane. 2. Valiant. The Royal White Stallion. I thought Valiant was a name that sounded like it fitted royalty. He has the royal bridle and saddle and french-braided mane. 3. Goliath. The Giant Horse, name is self-explanatory I think … 4. Epona II. The horse Link rides in the trailers. Miyamoto called this horse Epona so there you go. She has the traveler's bridle and saddle from the Link (Rider) amiibo, stats are 4/3/3. 5. Flare. A horse that looks just like the last horse shown in this video, but I found her in Taobab Grassland and she has 4/4/5 stats. Mohawk mane, but you can't tell since she's equipped with the knight's bridle and saddle. I LOVE her!!! Horses I released: 1. Domino. Just a random spotted black and white horse with a black mane, 2/2/2. Caught her for the Wild Horses side quest. 2. Epona II. My first failed attempt at getting the trailer horse, then I discovered she wasn't identical. Don't remember the stats. 3. Speckle. First horse I ever tamed. Spotted black and white horse with a white mane, 2/2/2. Sold for the Good-Sized Horse side quest. The name is the most uninspired because I didn't know you could name horses and had to come up with something on the spot :/

Nice! Here are my horses. Epona - Her stats are 4/4/4. I got her from the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS amiibo. Since it was Epona, I didn’t name her anything else (the game doesn’t even allow you to.) She wears the normal stable saddle and bridle because you can’t change it. Dragmire - This is the Giant/Ganondorf Horse. His stats are 5/2/-. I named Dragmire after Ganondorf’s non-canon last name. I still haven’t gotten the Monster Saddle and Bridle yet so he also has the normal stable saddle and bridle. Storm - This is the descendant of Zelda’s horse. Her stats are 4/3/5. She was named after the non-canon name of Zelda’s horse. She is wearing the Royal Saddle and Bridle. Horatio - His stats are 4/4/3. Horatio is a horse with one color, light blue. He was named after the horse from a KZbinr who played BOTW. This is the only horse that I have that doesn’t have max bond. Horatio is wearing the regular stable saddle and bridle. Although, I want to give this horse the Extravagant Saddle and Bridle when I get those. Midnight - His stats are 4/4/5. This is my best horse. He was named after it’s color, pure black. He wears the Ancient Saddle and Bridle from DLC Pack 2. Dead Horses: Epona - This is the other Epona that I got from the Twilight Princess amiibo. Her stats were also 4/4/4. was wearing the regular stable saddle and bridle when it died. It died proudly in battle, but I didn’t bother reviving it.

P.S. fun little side note, if you stand a little ways (but not too far) from your horse, whistle, and then begin to lightly jog away, depending on how fast your horse is, you can have it follow you around all cute like! Just need to keep an eye out on where your going so the horse can follow as well as not accidentally leave them behind, and let him catch up if he’s falling behind :D

Also, when selecting which horse to go after it helps to spook them first and watch which one runs the fastest/farthest away from you. This gives you an idea of their stats compared to the others before you even get back to the stable.

If you have the super smash bros link amiibo, just scan it near a stable (the first time) and she pops up. She has great stats, and she's already maxed out on the bond with a gentle temperament. You can't rename her but she has a special saddle and bridle when you register her. She's my preferred horse out of my entire stable.

She has good stats, not great, but still good, you can find better wild horses (even better than the royal steed), and since this amiibo is unobtainable, it makes Epona herself unobtainable.

No, she has great stats. She's fast, has a lot of stamina and can mow down just about anything. Just because there are a few horses in the game with better stats (and they really are very few) doesn't mean she's just a 'good' horse. She has an advantage over all of them, though...she has a gentle temperament, which means she won't throw you off and bolt when the situation gets dangerous. All of the best horses you catch in the game will have a wild temperament, no matter how much you bond with them. I have horses with better stats in my stable and I still choose her all the time because she's reliable. Also, it's extremely easy to buy the amiibo online, so it's not remotely unobtainable.

No. Epona is the best horse. For one, Epona has a gentle temperament, and she also sprints for 8 strides rather than those horses' 5. So even though she has lower stamina, she can boost continuously for 32 strides while a 5 stamina horse can do it for 25 and the 3 stamina one can only do it for 15.

the only downside to epona is you can't change her gear, so no dlc ancient saddle for her. Id definitely have her as my main if i could teleport her across hyrule.

The Giant Horse has unlimited stamina, which is different than having no stamina. This is why its represented with a line.

That's an interesting point, and you are definitely not the first person to address this. I must admit I didn't put a lot of thought into it when I made the video, I just kind of assumed the Giant Horse had no stamina. Buuut the more I think about it, the more I actually fall in line with my original statement. When the other horses "sprint" they are actually galloping - which is the fastest gait of a horse, and the number of spurs they have available represents how long they can gallop for (i.e. their stamina, or what stamina represents in this game at least). All horses in the game can walk, trot, and canter indefinitely (or "slow gallop" - I haven't actually analyzed the gait to see if it is a 3- or 4-point gait), as can the Giant Horse.. However, the Giant Horse simply does not have the ability to reach this top speed gait (fast gallop), which all other horses in the game do. Since he/she cannot fast gallop in the first place, I would argue that the Giant Horse does not have any stamina. With that being said, it does has a fast canter/baseline gallop. I might make a video about this since it comes up so often! :)

Taobab grasslands have these same high-stat horses. The trees around the area helped me glide onto their backs (before I started shooting them with ice arrows to freeze them for some time)

I'm going through my second playthrough and have the ancient saddle and bridle. First time round I got lucky and found a five spur horse at Duelling Peaks. Great video, thanks for sharing. BTW by this time you must have ralised the giant horse stamina is let blank because it's limitless....pity I can' put the ancient gear on him nor can he be customised.

Ahhmazing!! Glad to hear you got one :) That’s one way to look at it, I have mentioned this in a few comments here but I think instead of saying it has no stamina now I would say stamina just doesn’t really apply to this horse. In the game stamina refers to the number of spurs/times your can gallop in a row without needing a break, but this horse doesn’t gallop at all - but does have a high baseline canter speed. So stamina isn’t really a thing for it haha, but I get where you’re coming from! And yes definitely a shame you can’t put those on!! Would be epic. Enjoy!!

horse catching tip, instead of spending 15 minutes to chase down a horse because it keeps running with the others, shoot the one you want with an ice arrow the horse will be frozen giving you enough time to approach it

I have never played BotW in my life, but I'm considering buying it just because I wanna tame and ride horses 😅 Honestly though, I play Guild Wars 2 sometimes and the best part about it: the mounts. Granted, no horses, but raptors, springers (giant bunnies), skimmers (rays for gliding over and in water), jackals, griffons and skyscales (dragons) and more. I have almost no ambition in this game except for getting all the mounts and unlocking all their abilities 😅

I just started playing Breath of the Wild and I ended up getting my first horse in a very unique way. I actually saved it from one of the orc looking creatures in a random location and ended up taking it with me. The horse and I ended up bonding the whole way to the first stable, and when I realized I could pick any horse I wanted, I saw all these pretty horses, but they just weren't as authentic the palomino I saved. As I started re watching Supernatural while playing I named the horse Im'Pala 🤣🥰 I love that horse now, I got a personal story with it.

Hey, so I maxed out my stamina and used 13 endurance carrots to boost my stamina, eating each dish while low on stamina to refill it, I went through 15 circles of stamina, and somehow these horses didn’t calm, I was spamming ZL too, am I doing something wrong? Another thing is to watch them, hear me out. If you watch them you'll notice that they always have a leader and it will usualy be the 4, 4, 5 stat. The ones at the giant horse location break into three diffrent groups with diffrent leaders. Small detail that ive noticed.

Jay Dox When I originally made this post, I wasn't aware that the baseline canter speed of the Giant Horse was actually quite high (slightly higher than the non-galloping speed of the 5 star speed horse - a Reddit user named Haze_Stratos timed this out). Combine that speed with its awesome power and you're right - definitely a great overall horse and probably your best bet in battle! However, I believe its size does make it a little bit easier for enemies to hit, and it's speed cannot match that of a 5 speed horse with sprinting. It all comes down to how you like to play and what you're looking for!:)

You don't need more stamina to tame a horse. You just need to press the L button really fast. Caught the giant horse with only two extra stamina vessels.
