I love watching your videos. I'm in the summer of 1L, gearing up to start 2L and one of the questions I've had is how best to approach networking with firms over the 1L summer. If you are reaching out to a firm for a coffee chat, should you reach out to partners? recent grads? mid-level associates? Wondering if you'd be interested in doing a video on navigating 1L summer networking, or networking in general. What is kosher and what isn't. Just a thought. Thanks for your vids!

Did you both have connections and mentors before you went to Law School? Because I'm a Junior in college, and I literally know no one that's a lawyer. I know a ton of pre-law students, but they all have aunts and uncles that have law firms, etc.

Such good tips! I am from Durham but I went to Howard Law in DC so when I apply other places I do get the question about why I want to work there, even when I do interviews in North Carolina. Alsoooo #DukeNation !! #SI6HTS

Is there a diversity of practice areas represented within Big Law? For example, are some of the Big Law firms health law firms, or are all Big Law firms corporate law firms by default? Also, love your channel and the videos!

were there any classes at Columbia that helped you prepare for interviews? Like handshaking and what to wear and what to avoid? Also, both of y'alls dresses are beautiful can you please drop some professional places you shop at?? I'm about to start a law internship but love to wear sweats, hoodies, PJs, etc, so could use some direction!

@@adesuwawilson-iguade1730 thank you! I get most of my professional clothes from H&M and Macy's. Unfortunately, there were no classes at Columbia that addressed what to wear to work. -Angel

whats the starting pay for the firm that you work at? I assume you being in New York is more competitive than other places.
@armaanbhimani46795 жыл бұрын
Joe Delaporta most big law firms pay on the cravath scale and as such, base salary for first year big law associates is pretty easy to find

99% sure it's 190K in NYC. Googling it takes less than 10 seconds.

Are acrylic nails appropriate in law school/as an associate? I see one of you is wearing them and the other isn’t so I wanted to know if they were considered under the professional umbrella.
@Sistersinlaw5 жыл бұрын
I think if they are low enough and not too dramatic then they are considered professional. The nails I have on in this video were for graduation. I've never worn nails that long to work. -Angel

Rising 1Ls apply the winter after their first semester. Rising 2Ls interview the summer between their 1L and 2L year.

Do you think being black women had an effect on the number of interviews or call backs?

Hmmmmm, I don't know ... I worked for one of the top global law firms for decades - I got to see everyone from every IVY league school - no offense - but, if you presented yourselves as you do in this video - I reallllly don't see how you got in. This goes FOR ANY racial background one might have. Perhaps it's simply that you are portraying your self with your guard down right now. Please add a disclaimer that this video does not reflect the professional persona you used, or would use to obtain a job within a top notch law firm.

I generally ignore comments like this, but I have decided to engage for a change. Since you have time, please share your reasoning behind your comment. For the avoidance of any confusion, please articulate what has led you to conclude that the video is unprofessional (feel free to get as detailed as possible). For bonus points, can you please also explain why you mentioned racial backgrounds in your comment?
