Update: Currently at 211 lessons, and I've come back to my own video once or twice to remind myself how to get the most out of my lessons! haha (everyone needs a refresher once in a while!)

Thanks for the review Marissa. Congrats on so many lessons. I’ve taken 250+ and as cliche as it sounds, the start is the hardest. Even get BACK into doing lessons, the first one is the tough. Then I’m in the swing of it.

250- that's amazing! I agree- the first one or first one back is so hard! If I've taken a break I always think of the first one as the 'dusting' - dusting off the cobwebs, the dust - and as long as I feel like my brain' s been dusted off I've had a great lesson (even if I ask them to repeat the same work 21 times in 4 minutes lolllll It's all part of getting back in to it!)

Great advice on doing the active review before italki class! Definitely going to do it tomorrow. And I love the idea of finding the homework yourself. Thanks Marissa, great content as always!

It can be really scary/overwhelming when you first start! I was the same way a year ago and wanted to consolidate everything I've learned to help others take advantage of their lessons. I'm SO glad it's helped you! Best of luck- YOU GOT THIS🤗🤗

No way omgg I randomly clicked your video and found out you’re learning Filipino which is my native language 🥺 it’s actually a great feeling knowing that there’s someone learning my native language. I hope to see your progress in Filipino one day. Kaya mo yan! (You can do it!)

This is really surprising to me because I never knew people outside the Ph wanted to learn Filipino but as a Filipina who travels a lot knowing this language and Cebuano has helped me multiple times in the past. Good luck on your Filipino hopefully you haven't dropped it and make videos in Filipino. I'm using italki for my Portuguese and Mandarin review it's a super platform.

My boyfriend points out Tagalog speakers all the time when we’re out and about. It’s crazy to think I didn’t realize how helpful it would be until I started to learn it! I’m still a beginner, but still going! It’s so different from English so it’s a slow game, but slowly but surely!!:)

Hi! I'm a Filipino learning Spanish and just started taking classes with Italki, my first class was nerve wracking! this video really helps me a lot and gave me idea on how to maximize my learning. I was surprised that you are learning Tagalog, I rarely see foreigners learning my native language. anyways, Salamat! :)

I almost cried from nerves my first Spanish class! And now I look forward to them!:) I'm glad what I've learned helped you think about how to get the most out if your lessons! Tagalog is also so fun! I sound like a 3 year old.. but I'm having fun so it's okay! Masaya ako kapag nag-aaral ako ng Tagalog:) Salampat po para sa mga comment mo. Buenta Suerte y Ingat po kayo!

I prime myself in my TL before my lessons as well but I'm always studying so I mean for me it's just natural to just start talking in Spanish at this point. For beginners it's a great idea though and I would say, like in the beginning I used to even prepare a few sentences about things I knew I wanted to say just so I at least had a few things to start with if my mind went blank.

Sometimes I prepare a few sentences or look up specific words I want to talk about beforehand too- didn't realize I did that (haha!), but that's also a great tip!
