I just bought a $79 DeWalt Orbital that has been absolutely brilliant! I did have to find the right fitting for for my DeWalt Shop-Vac (baffling that two DeWalt products don’t fit) because it spewed dust from the sides of the motor. As soon as I fixed the dust extraction issue I’ve been a happy camper. Personally I think one should invest more in better sandpaper. I won’t spend $600 on Mirka sander but I will absolutely buy a $40 box of Mirka Abranet sandpaper. If you want your epoxy to be smooth and free of pigtails/imperfections you need this product! 💪🏻

Where and how do you store the table when it's drying for a week. Do you have problems with dust accumulating on the table. If you cover it, does it take longer to dry?
@BlackForestWoodCo
@BlackForestWoodCo 2 жыл бұрын
We have a finishing area upstairs, which is where we filmed this and we just let all our tables dry there, it's a little less dusty up there compared to downstairs but still gets a decent amount of dust and the tables cure fine with it, we don't tend to cover them because we don't want to scratch the finish while it's curing

Hello Dylan, this table looks fantastic! I'm a very beginner woodworker and I'm hoping if you can help me with a problem that I am stuck on using this finish? I am applying this on a piece of none stained maple and it turned out quite blotchy. My process is sand from 120-150-220-raise grain-320, apply the finish with a lint free rag, buff it out on a none-abrasive white pad with an orbital sander after 5 minutes of waiting. I heard that maple can be hard to deal with, and one solution is to apply a coat of shellac to seal the wood first then apply the finishes, could that work? Any help would be appreciated!

I'm wondering about repairing a surface with the ceramic coating. A big selling point of Osmo or Rubio is that scratch or stain repair is pretty simple. Will the ceramic coating complicate the process? Does the coating have to be removed somehow to make a repair?

Hey Dylan, Great video. Thanks for the detail. One item that I either missed or it wasn't included is the bottom of the table. I assume that you put the same oil based coating on the bottom but where does that fall in the sequence of work? Do you do the bottom first and let it cure for 24 hours and then flip to focus on the top? Thanks in advance.

This looks great! Do you recommend the black forest ceramic for countertop surfaces? I am particularly wondering about two things: First, is it a food-safe finish suited for dining tables, countertops etc? Second, is it heat resistance? Rubio monocoat is considered heat-resistant but clients still get burn marks from hot pans etc. How does the ceramic coating fare with heat? thanks!

The table looks awesome, the finishing product's are doing a great job. There does seem to be an awful lot of work to get the finish on and even. The buffing up also takes a lot of work. Can I ask why that final finish is called ceramic, to me ceramic is something made of clay and fired in a kiln! Obviously on a smaller table with no epoxy the process will be a lot quicker. So finally, this product is what, a better or more advanced finish than Osmo? Cheers, thanks for posting, will check out the website. Michael.

I just bought the ceramic kit to finish off the top of my L-shaped desk build that I’m working on. Unfortunately, the wood that I’m using (was given to me for free) is cedar and I know it’s too soft to use as a desktop. My theory was that using the ceramic kit would help protect the wood from scratches and dings. My questions for y’all are: Can I apply the ceramic coats directly to the sanded wood? Or does it need to be sealed first with an oil or laquer? And would the ceramic coat still stick if I sand above 320? like 600-800?

I started using Black Forest furniture oil. I’ve previously used Osmo for years. I applied the oil very sparingly indeed. Way less than Osmo. And applied with a RO sander. The issue I have is that it doesn’t seem to matter how much I buff with a white pad it stays very tacky even days later. And not shiny like your table. What could I be doing wrong please?
