I think for rec players or at least for me (4.0/4.5) my main thing is patience and hitting at about 80%. If I try to kill it I usually miss unless I am right at the net. Good point to shuffle rather than backpedal.

Yes, that's exactly what I observe.

Meike, my son struggles with the timing of pulling the trigger on the overhead shot...gets lots of framed shots or shots into the net... anything to improve timing on this shot?

I think often times that happens when someone gets overexcited and tries to do too much with it. See the above comment. Go for 70-80% of power and more placement.

@hkpandey is he putting his opposing hand up like Meike? Helps time...
@hkpandey12 ай бұрын
@@barryjohnson1330 yes he does, barry and also goes side-on to move back but I think he is trying to hit too hard...I think if he starts off hitting with less power and focuses on shot placement, he'll get timing right... with practice he'll be able to increase power too hopefully 🤞

Just like any skill - be it overhead, forehand, backhand, volley... Playing an instrument, driving, cooking... You need endless drills, practice, situations. In the case of overheads, this rarely happens. Even proper feeds rarely happen.
