Japanese Snow Monkeys, or Macaques, are native to the Nozawa Onsen region. Instead of taking the tour we wanted to find out how to get there by public transportation. Unfortunately we expected this to be an actual park where you could roam around and occasionally find the monkeys however this is more like an enclosure and somewhat of a zoo which we do not enjoy.
When visiting Nozawa Onsen it was my goal to see the Japanese snow monkeys while traveling Japan. We visited the famous snow monkey park also known as Jigokudani Yaenkoen Park or Snow Monkey park however it wasn't what we expected. We do hope you found the video informational and helpful in case you do want to visit and form your own opinion.

Always wanted to go to Nozawa, thanks for sharing your experience. I was in Sapporo last year in February 2020- snow conditions were disappointing for sure.

Thank you so much for this video! It’s our first time visiting Japan in couple of months and I was wondering wether it’s worth taking a side trip from our itinerary - we will skip it and enjoy more time in other places. Again, thank you.

So sad to see the small area in which the monkeys are kept, and how the tourists run around touching the monkeys😢. We totally agree with your disappointment, we would feel the same way! Regardless, still an awesome video thanks Alex 🙏🏻

Hey Alexander, I'm curious, is it hard to travel by yourself and had to plan everything like the transport, food, accomodation and Everything?

Over two kilometers of walking distance to see 15 minutes of snow monkeys. I don’t think I’ll be seeing this unless I get a scooter. Alex. More scenery pictures while you’re traveling by the bus or train.
