I visited this park in 2009, I can't believe you actually are brave enough to set foot in the same bathe as the monkeys. There were about 10 fellow visitors during my time, all of us thought it would be crazy to get into the pools with the monkeys given their tribal fighting between each other. Not only that, I doubt an emphasis in hygiene is catered there per the wild monkeys. . .

i think every weeb should learn the dark side of Japan! maybe then y’all wouldn’t idolized it so much, it’s a country not a utopia, and every country has a flawed and dark history.
@firekingsabo7 ай бұрын
@@oscarthagrouch Where i said that it's an utopia? Probably nowhere. I know the dark sides of Japan, but 1. Yes, every country isn't ideal, 2. Japan now isn't that bad as it was like 100 years ago, and 3. In top 5 countries I want to visit Japan is only on fourth place. I think that people should know about country problems, but saying everywhere "(Insert country name) isn't that good as you think" must be stopped imo, cause only kids idealize anything. And also, my country is way more worse that Japan because of criminals. I just want to move out of it.

@oscarthagrouch lmao you must have watched a couple of KZbin videos on "the dark side of Japan 😱", and now you feel you're in a position to tell people where they should or should not travel for fun? LOL I love the monkey in the Ryokan's bath looking like "'What's up!", like they're so used to people being there and are fine with it as long as you leave them be. 😁 Just beautiful with the snow.

I’m Japanese and I’d never heard of this place before until we found your video. My husband has always wanted to go see them, so we stayed there last week. Even in the same room :) It was full of their poop (eew), but we were in awe. Definitely once in a lifetime trip. Thanks to you guys! We always enjoy your videos. Love from Canada. Edit to add: for those saying the monkey pee/poo or whatnot… you’re right. It was simply gross. But the owner of the place empties and cleans the entire tub at 8am every day, and they test the water to make sure there’s no unsafe diseases. You can wash your body with soap right away once you go inside as well. Again, it was absolutely disgusting bathing in their pee and poo, but here I am well and alive. It was something I would do once in my entire life. And I’m glad that I did!

It is and isn't a joke people really do wear shorts while shoveling snow when its that cold.

I stayed there for three nights back in 2000, when the old Oba-san was managing the place. There were hardly any people there when I visited and there was a lot more snow - the posts around the hot spring had formed into a huge tower of ice and the trail was difficult to walk without snowshoes. I think I might've stayed in the same room you stayed in, because I remember the space for the tokonoma next to the area to sit by the widow and it faced the hot spring. I had a monkey that would sit and watch me drinking my beer and eating onagiri in the chair by the window, hoping I would open the window and pass it some. I don't recall the modern heaters being in the room - I'm pretty sure my room had a kotatsu and radiators. I was advised to avoid taking the hot baths until after 4pm, as the monkey troup would head back up into the mountains around that time, and its not much fun sitting in a bath with monkey poo floating in it and some of the monkeys can be quite aggressive at times. The food was interesting, though I always looked forward to the walk back down the trail to get coffee and Danish pastries from the cafe at the bottom. It was a great experience and I think I was lucky to visit at that time of year, when there was so much more snow and travelling was harder, which would explain why there were so few people there when I went. I would recommend this experience to everyone.
