To be honest, i was there last december. Wasn't my first time, so i guess i knew my way around and had some local friends. I just came early, payed my tax, and left the pier to have a beer 😂 no hassle. Theres also a cheap local boat to Lombok for about 15k idr. Worth it!

Fyi, USD 100 is equal to around IDR 1.3-1.6 million, that is around a third or a fifth (depending on the province) of average monthly income in Indonesia (the currency exchange rate is 1:13.000-16.000)

The exchange rate is often negotiable especially if you have a foreign currency like Thai baht. Don't just take the advertised rate.
@alexandwhite5 күн бұрын
i've actually never really negotiated with them, maybe i'll try that haha
@GK-wx6xo5 күн бұрын
@@alexandwhite I didn't realise you could but I noticed how different the rate was at Bali airport (atrocious) and the rate at a random chain money changer in Seminyak. I had a lot of Thai baht (80,000) and when I told him how much I wanted to change he gave me a rate close to the xe rate. Whether he would've done that with US or AUD I don't know and whether you needed a lot of it I'm not sure but you can defo negotiate. Best to at least ask.

No 12; yes some people Will try to scam about it. In other hand for shop owner, it's hard to get the small currency of Rupiah. They must spent a lot time to search between banks. Spent time in waiting list to get the small currency of Rupiah. So better prepare the small currency.

Hi Alexander, I would like to express my gratitude for this informative video. Very useful for new foreigners traveling to Indonesia. However, there are several points that I want to comment on here which aim to support local/indigenous Indonesian businesses so that there is a significant increase so that Indonesia also has strong national companies in global competition. Let me say about: 1. About GRAB / online app-based taxi service. Actually, Grab originally came from Malaysia, which first operated in Southeast Asia after Uber (a similar service) operated. And efforts to expand service coverage to other countries received strong funding support from powerful Singaporean companies so that the head office was moved to Singapore. And then, what I want to say here, please help recommend the GOJEK service (a similar super app originally made by Indonesians). When Gojek was launched, it was very difficult in Indonesia, both in the response from domestic taxi companies and when trying to expand to penetrate the South East Asia regions. Even though nowaday Gojek already exists in several South East Asian countries, its penetration is not as strong as Grab, which was ultimately able to acquire Uber and make Uber no longer operate in several Southeast Asian countries. We should help Indonesian products, one of which is to promote Gojek services. Sometimes Gojek is also cheaper and there are also subscription packages (a kind of membership) to make it even cheaper. And also so far I know Indonesia was the first in Southeast Asia to initiate the use of payments using QR codes by QRIS and expand to other countries in the Southeast Asia region. 2. Regulations regarding the use of long-term mobile phones from abroad. Actually, I agree with this policy, but its implementation must be made easier since the arrival of foreigners and foreign tourists at the airport. Sometimes the lack of clarity in these rules makes them confused. In fact many cases are oftenn discovered before even a week when their cellphone whose IMEI has not been registered causes their operator's signal to disappear without notice. This policy was initially aimed at reducing the rapid domination of imports of foreign cellphone brands in order to protect the development of domestic cellphone production, but as it turned out it was no longer effective because the supply chain and innovation of companies and the domestic cellphone industry were very slow. Once again, thank you so much Alexander, for your interesting videos and indirectly introducing the beauty of tourist attractions in Indonesia through the traveling vlog you made. 🙏 Regards from East Java 🇮🇩
