One of the problems with getting old is we only get to do it once - no practice - so it comes as a shock to discover you are no longer able to do things you have taken for granted. I am grateful for the advice such as yours and other trainers on Ytube. I am working up a simple regimen and keeping a daily diary to keep me motivated and on track. Thank you

I was in rehab after a BK amputation. One thing they didn't cover was getting back in the wheelchair after a fall. I rolled to a floor mat, stood up and free fell backwards to the mat and pushed my chair across the room. The nurses freaked!! I told them they needed to teach all of us how to get back up in our wheelchairs. I hope my message got through to them....EVERYBODY FALLS!!!.

Wait. Why did you not just get up on your full leg?
@joycehlavac2071 Жыл бұрын
This is great unless you've had double hip and knee replacements! I can't put pressure or weight on anything! I just try not to fall or get on the floor.
@CornflowerBlueEyes11 жыл бұрын
Thank you for showing this. While I'm overall pretty strong and agile, I had a knee injury and have been unable to comfortably and easily get off of the floor for months and months. I really feared a trip or a fall because it's been so painful to get up if I fell accidentally. (I also looked absurd just trying to get up!) Now, with using this method, I can get up quickly and without pain from the floor. This is a huge deal to me! Thanks again.

thanks for this video. I am a new trainer and have so many people who want to work abs but wont get on the floor because they can't get up. so I thought I was being nice by teaching them allstanding ab work.. But then I heard someone say "what if they fall"...come to think of it... my Grandma died that way- she fell in her garage. Now I am going to make them do elbow to palm side push ups off a wall. and teach them how to get up :) thanks again

What about a person with two total knee replacements, two bad shoulders, and 5 herniated discs? How do I get back up? It took me literally 15 minutes to get up after doing some stretching, and I was hurting all over, not from being on the floor but from actually getting up. Any suggesting would help. That's OK if you have two good arms. I require both shoulders replaced as I have snapped tendons and rotator cuff tears in both arms. I have been waiting for several years trying to find a surgeon who will do the operations. Because of heart problems and high diabetes readings, they will not do the operations. I may now have found a surgeon who is willing to help me. I have been told I must lose weight, I am 17 stn, and my HBA1c readings are slightly high. I have had several falls but because of my shoulder problems I can not get myself up. I had to wait one day for several hours until my wife came back from shopping to get help. I have no strength in my arms, and I also have bad arthritis in my hands. I was a very active person when I was younger but just getting out of a chair is painful now.

Is complicated when having any condition, I tried to figure out ways to stand up from the floor, I was dispaired for a long time on the floor, so I kinda tried this but modified, by puting the weight werever was less injured and with bending only one leg ,putting the whole weight on the leg I could bend the most, not the healthiest thing to do, but was that or stay on the floor alone.

This doesn’t work for everyone. Me! After having 2 back surgeries and needing a 3rd I’ve fallen many times. I’ve had to call either my son in law or police. My problem is, I can’t get my legs or leg bent to use it as an ankh. Sometimes if I have something to push up on. A chair etc. after at least an hour and lots of pain I can do it. I’ve had to crawl on my belly from the bathroom to the bedroom once. That was hard. I’m not only older, weak but out of shape. I can not pull my legs up or out. Help!!

gail grooms same here as well. Any pressure on my knees causes excruciating pain that lingers for days. It’s just not a possibility for me. And I’ve also had to call 911 when I couldn’t get up. They had to take out a window to get in my house.

There are a lot of 'dumb' youtube videos on how seniors should get up off the floor. I am 69 y.o., tallish, correct weight, a swimmer and bike rider...but have some degree of peripheral neuropathy in spite of low sugar levels. I can get up pretty easily, likely due to my fitness and core strength but one point of disagreement with this video which is 'pretty good' but I perform differently. The roll off the side method is best we agree...but don't have to place weight on the palms which can be problematic for the elderly. Instead roll to your favored forearm and push your torso up the floor....but don't try to get onto both feet by rocking back and then do a squat. No. Instead, get in the friendlier position of taking 'one knee' to the ground. Then, push up on the perpendicular knee/femur with both hands and raise your body off the ground. Simple and least stressful kinematically. Again, there is a lot of even harmful advice on the web of how to get off the ground involving crossing your feet and laying your legs on the ground that can cause serious joint damage. A last note. Fighting fitness loss as we seniors age is fundamental. I never thought I would gett old because I have been active my whole life. But that day came. Start doing squats if capable 3 x's a week. I personally do 3 sets of 21 to horizontal femur position, 3 x's a week depending on my cycling schedule. I use a 17 lb dumbbell I support with both hands down low. Some do it with hands high to the chest and some use a kettlebell. Posture is key. Straight back. We need to do light weight training to combat muscle loss and cardio as we age. Cut the sugar, intermittently fast and get as much sleep as you can. I don't drink either but that is your choice.
