Is it true you can actually get work using Behance? How are people using Behance to get work? Do portfolio sites like Behance work? Is Behance better than Dribble for getting work? What do you need to do?
In this episode, Melinda gives Chris a status update on the progress she's made so far. Listen to and apply the tips that have helped her grow her business and generate new business leads.
Everyone keeps asking, How do I get work when the country I live in doesn't value design? Do what Melinda did.

01:40 How many Behance projects have you updated in terms of presentation?
03:00 Q: How much time did you spend to update each project?
04:16 Q: Is the time spent a good return on investment?
06:20 Melinda: I've stopped prescribing solutions and started asking questions to discover real problems.
07:22 Melinda: I'm learning to compete against myself and no one else.
08:07 People tend to delay the challenging and important tasks, and gravitate towards easier ones.
10:20 When you change your mindset, your focus changes as well.
12:01 Q: What type of questions did the strategy facilitator asks?
13:20 Figure out what people are trying to achieve and what's getting in their way.
17:14 What makes me effective in business meetings is being bilingual in the language of art and business.
18:40 Q: Are you more comfortable talking about money and being rejected?
19:50 Acknowledge the progress that you've made so far.
22:20 You need to relate to people on multiple levels.

The Futur is an inspiration to me. Every time I watch the show I learn something new. At this point in my life, I'm in that place, planning to go solo, on my own. I just don't want to work for anyone but myself. I'm fired up about this new chapter in my life! Thank you, guys!

I am exactly the same as Melinda was, struggled to talk about money for fear of the rejection. Recently had a telephonic enquiry (from a previous client referral no less) and after establishing roughly ehat their pain point was, asked them their budget! Of course they pivoted and asked me for a ball park figure so I followed the advice and said I couldn't give an accurate estimate without understanding exactly hat work is require but I can say it won't be less than..., and guess what that call turned into a 15K project. Granted its not millions but its a huge improvement for me. best part is I didn't even have to pitch or work hours on a long winded proposal. win without pitching for the win! thanks Chris and Melinda! 💖

@@bradthegringo, doesn't work everytime, I tried it, the moment I said I couldn't give accurate estimate without understanding the work, the client just vanished afterwards. some client just doesn't care and want to know the price directly. and if we refuse to give they just left to find another designer

Awesome episode as always. Melinda is such a down to earth person. I can really relate to her. What about an episode on how to work on strategy from a person (like Melinda) that is not super used to do it? She said she has a friend that is very good at it. But I would love to hear you guys talk about ways to use strategy in design without being a master strategist. We always have to do a bit of strategy before getting into the design part, right? I would love to hear how she do it, and how to improve her skills in that field. Thank you again for this content you guys are doing. This is incredible.

Hi Melissa & Chris, First of all, I really want to thank you both for these videos, it’s helping me a lot. I started to watch the playlist last week and I’m on this episode. Melissa, you said that you updated your behance projects and I notice that you have thousands of views on your page. This is something witch I’m stugglin with cause I already updated once my projects couple of years ago and I know that I’m not as the same level as you do. Right now, regarding my last projects I have only dozens of views and I don’t know where is my issue. In a previous video, Chris talked about making a project presentation that look like to 5,10,18k. When I’m done with a logo, I’m looking for what’s working on behance and try to imitate them. A lot of creative show all their process and construction logo, from sketching up to the final logo. Yours are based on clean photographies and final products. My question is, whitch one is the best way to reach more people and get more views ? I know it’s been a while since the video was post so I hope someone wil see my comment. Again, thank you for everything, I’m really greatful and sorry if my english is not perfect, I’m just a french guy ^^ Cheers,

For anyone interested, the interview Chris mentions from Todd McFarlane is on the Complex youtube channel. Its an overview of his mindsets that made him, a self taught artist, into one of the top five highest paid comics artists of the 90s during the speculator boom. He was the primary artist for Spiderman throughout the 90s, didn't like his cut, so he convinced the other top artists from both Marvel and DC to quit with him to make Image comics, which is still the number 3 top comics publisher in the world, with Todd as president. Wonderful interview. I've watched it twice.

Those were Melinda's bad habits? Hahahaha cute. I can't stop thinking that Melinda in a previous episode said that she wanted to be or look 'original' and Chris says something like 'I see you (points out the mac) and you look exactly like everyone outside in San Francisco' and then he says that original stuff is a false idea which I agree, but... what I really want to recognize is that Melinda is definitely one of a kind, focus and hardworking person, very unique and talented, so many good things in one person and that makes her automatically original. My comment could be outdated, I just started the series and here she is already a stronger entrepreneur, I am already satisfied by her process, I imagine that now she speaks in a fluent business language and feels extremely proud, Chris too. Congrats both and the futur team too.

I wish I could Chris as my mentor. He is like a bald version of friend from South Korea. They talk and act the same exact way. A genuine care for people challenging them to become a better version of themselves.

And I really appreciate you taking the time to create all this content. It's definitely been helpful. I've had a lot of personal struggle in trying to become a full time freelance designer, and to be honest I'm not far off the launching pad, but these videos have helped give me the courage to try to achieve what I've always wanted to do but have always doubted my ability be able to do it.

You can get halfway there by studying great accounts and see what they do. Most have great mockups and photography. Imitate them.
