We truly do not own anything. Use as much as you can. Improve on some of them if you can and leave for others to take over. Our time here is stipulated already. Wow I love this. I hate posting on social media. I don’t feel confident enough or pretty enough to post a selfie. And now I want to launch my own business and thinking about to post on social media makes me feel overwhelmed. Today in age and specialty rn with the pandemic if we don’t have social media we don’t exist. And it’s something I have been preparing for a few months. I get so anxious and overwhelmed on Instagram. I know a lot of people photoshop but I still feel uncomfortable with myself.

I had many of the same questions Melinda had and I have found some great advice and tips here. Thank you so much! For me, the issue is the whole focus thing. Amazing video. Here are some of the points I got writing down (and some from the description): Post once a week, but high quality. (Better than more posts a day) What to share next ? What I'm learning ? You can repeat the same things but with variety. Different strategies for different social medias. Dont just repost on instagram same things then on twitter, facebook etc. Twitter: Use it differently. Example: Use text on an image. What people are gonna say about my stuff - Judgement ? (Work on social media) Don't care about other people's opinion. When you make something, be passionate about it, but once you put it out in the world, detach from it as if it were someone else' What is a critiqe and fact ? Telling things that is incorrent and how you can improve it. People like to throw around opinions. Reframe the Objection: Filter out the opinions and pay attention to the constructive critique "You ripped off this X designer" - Because you don't know where something comes from does not make your work original. Mindset: I just want to learn. I don't really care if I ripped off, I tried making the same. Nothing we do is original - everything you've done, is a reflection of what you have experienced. Otherwise we would be reinventing what we already invented. Your design skills and training to help attract viewers Tell your story to let people connect and identify with you. Find somebody you like and deconstruct their process. Copyright - You're not selling on social media. Stop focusing on the no's because the no's will get you nowhere. Focus on being intentional and sharing. When putting something out there - Make it valuable. Help somebody. Share the process and journey.

Oh my! You have helped me a lot! I've just transitioned from my career of being a call center team leader to a novice social media strategist. I've got two clients currently and I always find myself confused of what to share on my clients' social media accounts. This has helped me as I would certainly need to go back and have a chat with them to clear some things out. :) My take away from this session are as follows, and I hope you can give me insights too: - Be the best at what you're good at and stick by it. When the idea of "getting others bored by your usual content" comes across your mind, release it. If you know that you're good at something and people are following you and recognizing you because of it, just continue to do it. Don't stress on something that is non-existent. - Never let anyone's opinions get in the way of what you intend to put out. Make sure the deconstruct the criticisms you get from your audience -- fact vs opinion and helpful vs not helpful. - Nothing is original in this world because everything that is put out is influenced by somebody else's product or output. Rather than putting ownership on a work done, strive to help others understand and become educated with the information you share or the process you have discovered. Be a custodian / guardian rather than an owner. It will make your whole world become broader. It's okay to get ideas from other works as long as it's not a direct copy and if it is, learn to give credit to the source where you got it from. - Never put out lazy contents. Learn to think of ways to adapt your content on the social platform you use. You teach people not to follow you on social media with what you put out and share to them. - Don't make your work about you. You are not doing your job to show who you are, unless you are a celebrity trying to feed off of others approval. Learn to release the information you gathered out to the world by making sure that your intention is to help others, and not to get recognized by doing so. Stop feeding your ego! It's not about you, it's about what you are able to do to make others' become successful too! Thank you so much Chris Do! Definite thumbs up and an addition to huge number of followers. I'll share this out to my page too.

I found this video very helpful. Those fears of criticisms are "real" in that they're constantly circling in my head so much so that the topical item I wanted to discuss is no longer relevant. :/ Thanks for doing this Q&A and thanks for the tips on overcoming SM fears. (P.s. I haven't read the comments, so I'm not sure if anyone has addressed it but the topic of conveying emotion creates a lot of anxiety in me. I'm not your classic emotional person comfortable with sharing exclamation points, comfortable sharing opinions with vulnerability, comfortable conveying heightened interest and exuberance. I often find these people get traffic because others identify with that high-energy person... I am high-energy in person, but in writing/videos/content creation the tonality is lacking... :/ I talk about women and diversity in STEM, animal ethics/welfare, conservation biology, and education and public engagement (EPE) topics. These "sell" with an audience when you share the content with exuberance!!

More great, practical and functional insight. Our own fears get triggered whether real or perceived. Thanks for sharing. *** (re-posting this message because Chris rocks) Chris had returned a call of mine right around 2010 after I had left him an email or phone message. I was looking for professional direction and considering a move from central IL to the LA area to get into style-frame work. I'll never forget that call AND how nice he was. I was taken back and blown away by hearing from him personally and getting a chance to talk w one of my design heroes. Please keep in mind that I was a fan of Bad Religion (i.e., the punk band) who's guitarist, Brett Gurewitz, owned Epitaph Records, where Chris was a Designer / Art Director before starting Blind. That was epic enough, although, Blind has always been one of my favorite design houses. With that said, Chris is an asset to the entire creative field. He's an all-time classy and cool person and I really wish that we had more people like him in the world. The professional and creative insight on The Futur is appreciated. I probably should have posted this in the last video where Chris and Melinda talked about financials and the need to pay bills. This is real, what do we do until we have arrived at that level. When I have to feed my family or put gas in my car and that last minute small dollar event pops up that we typically wouldn't take but it is just enough to get us through until the next client event or booking, and we all know that in the creative industry and being self employed that your account can be up and down. Do we sacrifice our family needs over our business needs to become better. How can we get through it without losing it ( Typically would have never posted anything like this in a public forum but after watching the video I feel differently so here it is!)

Been applying this methods for over 2 years since we started doing Instagram Quotes & Sayings as our main source of bringing value to people. I believe this is very important, really loved the value you gave us about Originality and Critique as it helped us a lot more to understand things differently. Great show, enjoyed it a lot.

Of everything that I have consumed on this channel, the messages here have been the most inspirational. I'm always compelled to learn and practice. I can feel my scope growing. But today, I am stronger. I have an urge to be seen and heard. I appreciate what you doing. Thank you.

About some of the most popular Instagram accounts doing "the same thing over and over again" - that DOES work, but it also kills me at the same time to be in that mindset, when I feel like I can do so much more!

Love this series so much! And, Chris - thank you for reminding "us" to use the English language as it was meant to be used and to articulate! We are communicators, so let's communicate! I get lazy sometimes and I recall having a conversation when I was using "you know's" a lot (this was a while ago) and my friend lovingly said, "No, I don't know, why don't you tell me?" It's a great lesson.

Everything we make is original due to the fact that you sat their and formed it with your body; in that way your whole life is original, but when it comes to originallity in concepts its more about how strong the identity is, how singular it feels, and in how we took old ideas and shape language and blended them together into something that gives off the illusion of "new"
@thefutur7 жыл бұрын
so if everything we make is original, why even bother trying to classify things as original or derivative? what's the point?
@ashcomics137 жыл бұрын
Everything we create is original to our individual experience, and everything we create is unoriginal in our collective experience. I think the point is you can actually gain from believing in a scale of classification with derivative on the one end and original on the other because it can offer a creator insight, variety and flexibility in what concepts/styles/ideas are in, and which concepts/styles/ideas want to blend together that feels refreshing and new. But i don't believe something is original in regards to concept and design because it's origins are some sort of appropriate mix of concepts/styles/ideas that exist in the culture cloud. In fact i don't think original is the right word, it's more like evolved.

Ashraf Nasser I like the way you phrased that. Beautiful!
